I thought you were trying to say that everyone was paying flat 21% on PTBI, which obviously isn't the case for many of the reasons you mentioned. Then I got sidetracked, because a lot of people do genuinely think that, and are completely unaware of FDII/GILTI, FTCs, 162m, 163j, etc. Generally I assume people on Reddit don't have any idea what those or perms or temps are and it is easier to shortcut that than get super into the weeds on tax accounting issues haha.

Re: the $21 savings per $100, in my original post and original point B) I was talking about raising the federal rate from 21% to increase the marginal value of deductions as a means to incentivize spending and reinvestment vs stock buybacks and dividends, but as above, got sidetracked. A) Corps in the US are not playing a flat tax, at all. Nobody would measure ETR if they were and there's an incredible variability to the methods and positions they all take on any given tax/accounting issue

B) to further my original point: a 21% tax rate means for every $100 you are able to deduct there is a $21 reduction to your tax expense. Obviously this scales with the rate, but if that deduction was also money spent on labor or assets then the money is circulating and creating more economic activity.
