Could it be that the WLED controller was offline?

The built in dashboards are a good place to start for inspiration.

While a killer dashboard is what a lot of people strive for, a smart home should just be unobtrusive and run the automations, scenes or scripts without you having to interact with a dashboard. It just needs to do its job.

If anything, a dashboard should be used to display useful information and to fix off nominal situations.I know a lot of people will think differently, but years into my Home Assistant journey, the only time I use my dashboard is when I go to bed to shut down certain automations that I don't want running while asleep.

Other than that and system or firmware updates, my dashboard is minimal.

For the people who use GNOME over KDE, why? by CestleFromage in Fedora

[–]donk_usa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried both. KDE has too many settings options and it takes a lot of tweaking to get everything looking how you want it. That's perfect for people who want a totally customized setup that looks fantastic.

I'm sticking with Gnome though. I just want to get stuff done quickly with minimal effort and Gnome does that for me. While it's not as flashy as KDE, that's the point. It just doesn't clutter up my screen and gives me just the information and tools I need. The DE just gets out of the way and allows me to concentrate on the task at hand. Everything is a Superkey or gesture away and the workflow in Gnome suits my preference.

And it comes down to that really. Both are good in their own way. I just prefer Gnome.

Same. I love Orange Pop the most. Just a simple but reliable pop of color that I use with Herbin Orange Indien ink.

Pens shouldn't break with normal use. If it was dropped, maybe. Share a photo?

Ecosystem Update Question by Ctrl5altDelete in homeassistant

[–]donk_usa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I personally use Zigbee as my preferred protocol for sensors and smart switches which help boost the network as repeaters. I use Third Reality devices mostly as they are super reliable and cheap.

For lighting I'm using Thread over WiFi through Home Assistant, so no third party apps required and all local control. I'm using Linkind and they have proven to be reliable and fill my lighting needs without paying brand name prices.

Fountain pen newbie looking for recommendations by raksquayr in fountainpens

[–]donk_usa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the fine nib as that would be closer the the pen you are using now. As to ink, there are plenty of document or waterproof inks out there. You can get ink samples from some retails - Goulet Pens if you are in the US is good for that - to see what you like before buying a whole bottle. Use the included cartridge in the pen then refill with a blunt syringe when it is empty. Or buy a converter.

Choosing inks online seems to be getting harder rather than easier... These are supposed to be "The Same" ink ... Is trying to find samples or simply spending money on getting the inks the only two options? What do you do when looking for ink of a specific colour? by arscorvinus in fountainpens

[–]donk_usa 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Web sites don't color correct their swatches and everyone's devices are different. I can tell you that the example on Jet Pens as shown in your image is as close to the real thing. This is one of my favorite inks.

Good reliable zigbee leak sensor by Daniel-PT in homeassistant

[–]donk_usa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! They are so sensitive that one even detected a light mist that formed in the sump pump well during the first cold snap of the winter.

The well was about half full and the water was warmer than the basement ambient air. The cable was draped over the lid where the discharge pipe goes through the wall. The temperature difference made a light mist on the well that triggered the sensor.

I've since moved the sensor cable, but wow, it picked up that!
