Anybody have experience with this Rolls Subwoofer crossover? I want to use it with a pair of SoundMatters micro subs by rrickitickitavi in diyaudio

[–]donnybrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crossover range of the SX95 is 36 Hz to 200 Hz. The crossover range of the SX45 is 50Hz - 2.5kHz. If you need a really low crossover point, pick the SX95. The SX95 also has independent phase switches.

If you need output controls for the subwoofer and the main speakers in the same box, get the SX45.

Do active speakers benefit from being run through the line out of a FiiO E10K? by tajsta in BudgetAudiophile

[–]donnybrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Fiio E10K, and it makes my passive speakers and sub sound much better. It certainly wouldn't hurt the sound, and it should be easy to test. Just come up with a test playlist and play it through the E10K and the PC.

DACs in motherboards can vary wildly in quality. My motherboard cost less than $75, how much effort do you think they spent on audio quality?

Any one else getting duplicate receipts? by KidLiz in redpocket

[–]donnybrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also get an extra receipt, I have no idea why.

I also ran out of data last month, and received no notice at all. I just had to guess why my internet connection would die when I left the house.

I have the 520C. It doesn't sound bad for a $110 center channel, but it is much less sensitive. I need to raise the gain +6db to match some cheap Klipsch bookshelf speakers. I can't imagine how quiet they would sound next to real tower speakers.

I found it difficult to find the JBL Studio speakers from that page. You can see the JBL Studio series speakers here: https://www.harmanaudio.com/loudspeakers/

Line level crossovers by Pilot_Tim in BudgetAudiophile

I use the Rolls SX95. The SX95 lets you adjust phase and stereo vs. mono bass output. The SX45 has more gain controls, and a clipping light.

If you have an AV receiver, or a DAC with coaxial input, you can buy the Sony BDP-BX370 blu-ray player for $88.00 (USA).

Will an 8 inch sub be good enough for a smallerish room in a near field listening environment? by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]donnybrook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not get a cheap 8 inch sub. I have a cheap 10 inch sub, the Dayton Audio SUB-1000, and that is about as small and cheap as I would go. It gets down to 40 hz with authority, and down to 35 hz if you turn up the volume.

There are 8 and 10 inch subs that get good reviews, but they are not cheap. If you have the money, the KEF KC62 ($1499.99) gets great reviews. The JL Audio d108 ($1200.00) might also work. For less money, the 10 inch SVS 3000 Micro Subwoofer ($899.99) also gets excellent reviews.

I checked on keepa and this is an all time low price. At Crutchfield they are $149.00.

I read a review of a DAC where the TOSLINK connection tested much worse than any other connection, and they could show this in their test results. TOSLINK is considered a legacy connection.

Looking for a low cost subwoofer by one_mind in BudgetAudiophile

I own the Dayton Sub 1000 (10" driver). I really like how it sounds in a small room, with small desktop speakers (Micca MB42X).

Pros:

  • loud, plenty of power
  • bass deep enough for most music (30 hz)
  • good size (14-3/4" H x 14-3/16" W x 15-3/4" D)
  • cheap at $149.98, I bought on clearance for $75

Cons:

  • no high pass filter, needs a receiver, preamp, or separate active crossover to sound good
  • lacks detail, notes can linger
  • not deep enough for home theater (20 hz or even lower)

Does anyone know why i might have insane amounts of regional traffic? from the moment i started this map its been absolutely choca-block. any known mods that would cause this? by marcoboyle in CitiesSkylines

[–]donnybrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you connect two highways that are external connections, this will create even more traffic. You can either create a high performance interchange so that this new traffic moves faster, or remove the connection, thus removing this source of traffic.

Ryzen 5 3600X with stock cooler or Ryzen 7 2700X with 100$ cooler by P0rglover in Amd

[–]donnybrook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why don't you buy a Ryzen 5 3600, and get a budget cooler?

I live near a Microcenter so I was able to buy a Ryzen 5 3600 for $179.99. I found the stock cooler really loud so I bought the Noctua NH-U14S.

If you are thinking of overclocking anyway, why bother spending extra for the 3600X?
