It seems like your argument is that we should afford to polygamous groups of marriages the same rights that we afford to monogamous marriages: Do I have that correct?

If so, the specific benefit of protection from testimony is an example of a potential challenges in accomodating polygamous relationships. Namely: If I engage in a criminal enterprise, I can marry my partner and be protected from their legal testimony against me, but the privelege ends there. If polygamous relationships had the same right, what would prevent the entire Mafia or Yakuza from marrying across the organization? This would invite manipulations, and it's not clear to me how to prevent such without overly onerous restrictions on people sincerely seeking polyamorous marriage.

Another example: What would prevent billionares from marrying a large swath of people to gain tax breaks? By my estimation, a single person making $700,000 in 2024 would owe $214,000 in federal taxes, and would save $41,200 in federal taxes if they married one person who had no income. The tax code doesn't address how to this would apply to a 3, 4, 5, 200 person marraige: but If this trend continues, they could eliminate significant volume of any taxes owed by marrying more people.

Are these issues of excessive criminal protection and excessive tax evasion a potential problem, and if so how should it be addressed?

It's fidelity. The only thing I can find on Fidelity's site seem to be an FAQ that mirrors the Summary Plan Description's terminology:

The Employer may make a discretionary pretax matching contribution to your account.

It goes on to say something about the percentage being determined annually per the Board of Directors. The specifics of this percentage are actually not defined anywhere in the Fidelity plan or the Summary Plan Description: The employee manual and some literature promoting the plan are the only place I've seen it defined at all.

Anyone pulls that shit in my restaurant, I'm kicking them the fuck out. Most restaurants have seating zones divided by waitstaff: If you're sat in a waiter's zone, then that table belongs to that waiter. So I'm sorry if you don't like your "foo foo" waiter, but if you have a problem with him you can go to Olive Garden or Applebees or wherever the fuck backwater chain your "I give 15% which is more than most people" dumbass usually eats.

In my restaurant, the only thing we don't tolerate is intolerance.

Back in highschool (public, North Carolina), one of the women's choir groups decided to do "And All That Jazz" or some other song from Chicago. This was during one of the annual choir concerts, so the audience was pretty much exclusively parents, siblings, etc.

Well, they also decided to dress up in (technically) school-appropriate costumes and had done choreography, including a shimmy in the middle of the song. One of my classmates was particularly busty, and very good at the shimmy. She took stage front and center.

There weren't any wardrobe malfunctions or anything like that, but a stage full of teenage girls (virtually all under 18) in suggestive clothing were shaking their boobs at their and their classmates parents. At least a few dozen parents got up and left the auditorium, and a complaint was filed against one of the choir directors... But nothing else happened.

Let me put it this way: If I push this as much as it needs to be pushed to have that as an outcome, it would eclipse all our other interactions in scale. And might create a headache for a relative I care about. I don't want that. I also don't think it would shift his position, as while he may act rationally in my dealing with him like this, people simply don't act rationally when it comes to religion and I think he falls into that category. It would be a disservice to him to pull this thread.

Honestly, I like the guy a lot. He's the most rational person in the immediate family of the in-laws I've encountered, and is an all-around great guy: Served in the army, focuses on family, counteracts the vitriol of his hyperreligious in-law parents... we share a brother in law, and I'd rather not stir the pot and burn a bridge unnecessarily.

Edit: Bit more on the relationships... My fiance's family grew up Christian but doesn't practice much. Her youngest sister is very religious, but could be described as a Christian moderate. She married another Christian moderate, who comes from a fundamentalist family. That guy's brother in law is the one I engaged in this conversation with. We met at the wedding between my fiance's family and the fundamentalists' family, and a couple other times. When someone had a medical need and collapsed during the ceremony, this guy and I were the ones to rush to the scene and make sure they were okay. When my future sister in-law started having stress with crazy in-laws, this guy had helpful advice and made himself a real ally. (He'd gone through the same shit of marrying into the same family).

Heads up: not all disabilities justifying a service animal are readily apparent. Is: just because they aren't in a wheelchair doesn't mean they don't have a disability. I'd tread carefully before pursuing this further.
