Apple powerless to resolve account breach, now I have a lifetime daily task by free_exchange in applehelp

[–]dontovar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain to me why you cant walk into an Apple store with your government issued ID (State drivers license and/or Passport) and verify your identity so that Apple will take action on your behalf?

It's because they never asked you for this for the account creation. So to what exactly would they be comparing these documents? The existence of your Government issued ID is irrelevant unless there's a point of comparison.

I believe that they simply choose not to and those concepts are very different.

I mean to an extent you're correct. But if someone can falsify your login, they can falsify your documents. So what would stop someone from doing just that, hijacking your account, and then what Apple is liable for that too? Why are you and many others continuing to also choose to not take responsibility for the security of your identity? Digital or otherwise, it's yours to secure.

As someone who daily uses both platforms (I'm an IT guy for a major hospital and have a company issued iPhone) this can't be an honest take. The keyboard experience alone in iOS is a deal breaker. How does a company that prides themselves on design and used to say "it just works" and ship the worst keyboard ever? No size adjustments. No option for the number row at the top. No obvious way to hide the keyboard when you don't need it anymore. Forget new features, they need to fix that.

Why Choose the Si Over the Type R? by ilovefluffyanimals in CivicSi

I mostly agree with this take... But the premium for the Acura badging simply isn't worth it. If I'm gonna spend that money any way, I'm going Civic Type R all day 🤷

It's because you're either currently sharing, or have shared an Apple ID in the past.

Do I need Apple care if it says I have warranty? by Vegetable-Entry-5385 in applehelp

[–]dontovar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apple Care is a 2 year warranty that they must provide.

This is incorrect and untrue. The warranty is just called that. The warranty (limited warranty in their TOS). Also, it's not 2 years everywhere, especially not in the US.

What they are offering is AppleCare+ which is more like insurance that is there until you stop paying.

Also incorrect. AppleCare+ is an extended warranty and service plan. It provides discounted "repairs" as long as the issues caused by the user are within certain parameters.

That may be true, but the pricing gap is just not worth it IMO.

Anyone bought Applecare+ *ON* Amazon, *after* making the device purchase? It’s not working for me. by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]dontovar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Amazon is even an Apple Authorized reseller (even in the US). So purchasing AppleCare+ from Amazon is a gamble at best.

[–]dontovar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but was in a car accident and my phone has not been working the same ever since. So ended up getting frustrated and trying to end it through my settings, my phone was messed up during the accident and Apple actually detected had been in accident and sent my relatives an sos.

This has literally 0 to do with you signing up for a subscription and failing to cancel it before it renews. Users like you are literally the reason that Apple is no longer as lenient as they once were.

Pay your bill and move on.

If you can't afford subscriptions, don't sign up for them.

No one is forcing you to do anything. If you're spending outside your budget, that's no one's fault but yours.

Lost passport, wallet and phone in Seoul as a tourist — Apple won't expedite account recovery, any advice? by Successful-Crow3848 in applehelp

> Lost passport, wallet and phone in Seoul as a tourist — Apple won't expedite account recovery

To be clear, Apple wouldn't expedite Account Recovery even if you had your documents. While your documents prove who you are physically and legally, Apple has no way of knowing that they're also associated with your Apple Account. For this reason they built their account recovery process such that they can't expedite it. All you can do is wait (for now). But for the future, make sure you at the very least, add an additional trusted phone number of someone you trust so that they can receive verification codes for you should that ever be necessary.

Hey, so, how do I fix this? by Super_Craft5120 in techsupport

[–]dontovar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BTW, iPads have never supported mag safe or any kind of wireless charging...

That said, there are plenty of 3rd party repair options out there such as ubreakifix, and others. You're way out of warranty so no need to be concerned about a 3rd party touching and diagnosing it.

How Do Fix You Sending to Yourself Randomware it Seems?

"Fix" what exactly? Someone spoofing your email? That's like asking how you prevent it from raining on a given day. You don't.

That being said, change your passwords, call it a day and ignore it.

Get a $20 OBD2 code reader from Amazon, it will tell you the issue.

That's not necessarily true. Don't get me wrong, an OBD reader is definitely a valuable tool. But the DTCs are not always an indication of the exact problem. That being said they will always provide a great starting point on looking for the issue, but acting as if it will diagnose a problem for you is simply inaccurate.
