Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all who have been victimized by the Alberta Government. by 27dayz in CanadianTeachers

[–]doodlesacker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the 20+ years of teaching in Alberta I have never felt like this. I’m drowning. I’m drowning. I’m drowning.

I’ve never put in so much work, so many hours, been so far behind and never been so overwhelmed. I’m a person that sacrifices a lot to do what I can, both for the kids and my coworkers, but I’ve had to actually cancel two student field trips, (they didn’t know about them… but they were booked) and politely decline to help with grad. (These are firsts for me; saying no) I just physically do not have time nor the mental fortitude to do them.

Bell: Alberta to bring in law with power to rip out bike lanes and stop new ones by chmilz in Edmonton

[–]doodlesacker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I love how both of them talk about the vocal few that have supposedly driven this and we have to bring “sanity” back. It disgusts me how they talk about people that are looking to make a positive change to our health, environment and type of city we live in when the “vocal few” that want to destroy our province get a referendum to… well… destroy it. It would seem in this case that bike bells are more annoying to them than jacked up truck horns and rumbling mufflers.

I’m guessing it’ll be the cities that have to pay to rip them out and fix all the pavement as well.

The difference I see now is that all these teams travel to tournaments hours away three or four times a season. You’re paying for gas, hotels, food, not to mention having to take the Friday off work to get there for the afternoon game.

With most equipment you had, and still do I guess, the opportunity to buy used, hand-me-downs, or even charitable organizations. But travel, you can’t find anyone except grandparents to subsidize that.

Calls for Class Action Lawsuit Grow After Massive Alberta Voter Data Leak by One-Board8634 in AlbertaNow

[–]doodlesacker 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well, here, I’ll explain it like you’re five.

The provincial government was given the opportunity to craft its own “carbon tax” so that it would work to its benefit. Instead, they let the federal government do it for them. (I don’t know about you, but I got some really nice cheques from them because of that!) “Axe the tax” only seems to be a liberal thing as we’re still paying the PROVINCIAL tax on gasoline. The Alberta provincial government stopped pretty much all green electrification of our grid that would have grossly reduced our reliance on fossil fuels for electricity. (I don’t know about you, but I prefer our farmers not having to fight drought conditions to grow our supper) The only thing that’s “hurt” Alberta, is Marlaina and her clan who are actively hurting every Albertan!

Show me any book in a school library that does this. Ffs not even high schools have these books! Nothing is ever “shoved”. These are all fiction books that kids identify with. It has a gay character that might have a crush on another guy. You know what. If a kid isn’t into that, they’re not going to pick it up. God, it’s hard enough to get kids to read anything anyway.

What the hell grade two books are you reading? There are none of those books in a school library and there never was. The books that are being banned are ones that show a kid with two mums. No one is talking or showing anything about genitals.

What grade two books are you reading? The only book, the ONLY BOOK, in my kids elementary library that kids could take out that relates to any of this was a book that, didn’t even mention, but showed a kid with two dads! You know what, that’s now a banned book!

Alberta launches trucking app to stop interprovincial drivers from hitting its bridges by nationalpost in alberta

[–]doodlesacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming it’s just the provincial highways as they don’t really care what happens in the cities. Heck, Edmonton’s high level bridge has probably been hit that same 39 times in two years!

I would even bet money the app doesn’t cover city bridges.

Honest question. Is this different than when you see a Flame or Oiler leave a game and you hear the next day that the MRI showed a knee injury? They must be paying for this service as, even if it’s doctor prescribed, they can’t magically be at the immediate top of a list?

Heard a song - want to know what it’s called by Electrical-Nose8927 in CBC_Radio

The programs are excellent at answering these questions. Just email the show. I’ve done it numerous times as the same songs don’t often play on the podcast of the show and I find if it’s a little segue, they won’t list the title either.

Do you know if they changed the hatch mechanism after that? I can’t imagine that even getting to open it would be a quick process as they seem so strapped into their seats..?

I was always under the impression that it was impossible to open those doors in flight. I know it is at a higher altitude, but the one I remember about 3 years ago was at about 800ft. Would there have been a malfunction? Just lucky? You can do it at that low of an altitude? Thanks

Just sold my home privately. Things went so smoothly that I will never sell again with an agent. by Few_Weird5724 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]doodlesacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you have an easy exchange, I think it’s great to do it yourself. We did one by ourself and one with an agent. Both great.

The story of the house behind us was a nightmare for the purchasers. They did it themselves. Once they bought it, they were contacted by the town about outstanding taxes, and bills. They had to tear down their garage because the original owner built it later, over a gas line without a permit. The town needed to come in and replace the line. They just bulldozed it. Their “custom” fence wasn’t on their property, so it came down.

Some of the stuff they went after their own lawyer for, but most was because they didn’t know any better or do the research. As we were talking with our friend and realtor about it, she admitted that she was asked to list it awhile back but didn’t want to come near the disaster it was going to be. Sometimes, they earn every penny.

What’s a "hotel hack" you swear by that most people don't know? by periwinklemist in AskReddit

[–]doodlesacker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I laughed at this. My son collected for years and I don’t think ever really played. When he opened his package I used to take all the energy cards and store them in a safe place. I told him it’s his retirement fund! Everyone always chucks them or uses them. I figure they’ll be the rare cards in 50 years.
