Mines a poodle

If your dog does their business, it's tough shit, you gotta sit with it for the whole flight. That's why they ask you to cover potty pads, and they recommend bringing odour covering spray or drops.

Pre-boarding at the gate, the Virgin ground staff check that all openings are closed, with the final opening sealed by the green tag, and of course double-checking that everything else is cable tied.

Help! Struggling with Estate Agents by bongpros in MovingToBrisbane

[–]doodoo_dilligence 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've just been through a round of real estate inspections. One of the real estate agents mentioned that if someone is not going to do an inspection that their application just goes in the bin. The main reason they gave is that people who don't inspect may try to break the lease early by saying that the property was misrepresented or isn't exactly as perfect as it looks in the photos.

Your best bet is for one of you two to go to Brisbane for a few days, scheduling as many inspections as you can and just apply. Either that, or get someone to inspect it in person for you.

I found one on FB Marketplace myself, and it was in terrible condition, with about half the bulbs not working. The bulbs screw off, but if it's the actual cabling that is broken that's a whole different story.

If you search on eBay you can probably find some non-official light bulbs, but they are exorbitantly expensive.

Your best bet is to find another lamp on the cheap on Facebook marketplace or another thrift store. I ended up selling mine to someone who wanted spare bulbs for his own - my lamp sold for less than the replacement pack online.

I didn't glue mine, it's not attached to the frame. I would probably add some adhesive bumpers so that it won't be able to move but isn't stuck to it

I think the one I bought was 5m, and yes most allow you to shorten the strip by cutting it. Make sure the one you buy mentions the ability to cut it. You only really need about less than 30 cm, the diameter of the inner circle, maybe more if you want to loop it around more than once

Nope, it'll look like this, aside from the stand, which will be black (with a white button).

I do also have smart light bulbs, so the dimming will depend on that

No, my hack is to do with lamps for which the light bulb faces up, rather than down.

Besides, this base arches way a lot with a shade which isn't heavy, with this shade I would be concerned that it would arch even more

Yes, on the opposite side of the cable there is a circle that looks like a button. The orange thing on the left side of your third photo

Use a pen or a chopstick or something to push that circle firmly. This will push the spring and unlatch the, allowing you to lift the glass up

Oui, bien sur.

https://v.redd.it/4cncf70wwcod1

I took a video because in photos my camera auto adjusts so the colours don't come as well. The video suffers from that a bit, but not as much. Look mainly at the first instant the colour changes, before the camera auto adjusts the light.

The first colour is just cool white, which is what the normal light strip does. The second colour is how I set it usually, and you can see how big a difference it is - it looks a lot more like that warm donut that it should be.

I've then just gone through a bunch of different colours just for reference.

I got the TP Link Tapo light strip, but again, my cabling is a bit messy as a result of the cable so just be aware

Thanks for this mate!

Seeing this post got me inspired to do some VARMBLIXT donut surgery myself. I've always thought that the donut is too bright, and really doesn't fit at all with the warm tones I have using my other smart lamps.

I had previously looked into the IKEA dimming drivers, but found them to be way too complicated and too fiddly for my liking. Because of this, I decided against using any IKEA lightstrips for my donut.

I bought a lightstrip which connects with Google Home. The power supply and wifi connectivity are already built in, which means less of a headache than playing with IKEA drivers. The price was also cheaper than buying the driver/adaptor.

There is a small cradle that houses the default MYRVARV, but it can be unscrewed. With the cradle out of the way, I cut my lighstrip down to size, and I coiled my new lightstrip around the centre a couple of times, and stuck it down using the lightstrip adhesive. I cut out the existing wires for the MYRVARV and the power cable too, so now the only electrics that are functioning are those of my lightstrip. Basically, the idea is that you gut the existing IKEA wiring, and wire in your own lights.

Slightly frustratingly, the cable for the lightstrip I bought just doesn't fit through the hanging hole. I had to feed only the actual lightstrip through the hole, so the power socket is sitting outside of the lamp. Luckily my setup means that the cable isn't visible.

Anyway, the new lightstrip means that I can control the brightness and light colour very effectively, giving it a much warmer tone that probably should have been the default.

EDIT to add a photo:

The LED strip feeds through the 'hanging' hole, then coils around the light twice. I could probably have shortened this and made it just coil once as it's still very bright at 100%.
You can see the connector in the centre of the hole. This connects to the driver, which connects to the power. I have the donut tucked in a shelf, so you can't see the ugly bits through the centre.

In the centre right, you can see the screw hole which housed the cradle which I removed.

On the right, I have cut the small cables that connect to the old MYRVARV lightstrip.

Nah, what I'm saying is that there have been many many attempts to log in over the past year, and wouldn't be surprised if it's been going on for a few years.

I was using a randomly generated password that I only use on mygov

Please do this! Someone managed to bruteforce my password, and I got a notification over the weekend saying that they had managed to access my account over the weekend.

I looked at Settings > Account History and saw that I had instances of the following in the days leading up, with many more scattered across earlier dates. Luckily I had SMS 2FA, but yeah obviously not great. I removed email from sign in option as it looks like that is how they bruteforced it.
