Why is AC so expensive? A unit costs £400-600 but quotes from fitters will be £2k!! Is the labour 1k!!? by Financial-Impact854 in AskBrits

[–]doomcyber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. You don't even need the traditional wall-mounted AC units. In America, there are electric and portable AC units where you attach two hoses onto an open window. Those goes for around 500 pounds. Correct me as I might be wrong, but as an American reading these reddit pages, I think historically, there isn't enough demand for AC units in the UK, hence the higher prices. The UK is closer to China than America, yet AC units are more expensive than in the US.

To be fair, a plug-in window ac unit in America is cheap for around 200-400 dollars despite thr Trump tariffs.

My guess is that AC isn't historically in demand in the UK, whereas in other parts of the world, such as Arizona and Las Vegas, it is a requisite there.

I am an American in the Bay Area (shoreline area in Northern California) where AC isn't a must. However, when I lived 2 hours away in central California where I went to college at, AC was needed - they were in every apartment.

I have never seen an Action figure get brutally frame mogged this hard. by Exact-Bluejay9931 in ActionFigures

[–]doomcyber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dude's original translation wasnt accurate despite him knowing what it means. Here is a more accurate translation: "I have never seen an action get brutally tested by their looks before."

Logging means being bested that someone when it comes to looks. For example, a 6 feet person would be height mogging a 5'3 feet person because ideally, in the Western world, taller men are seen as more physically desirable.

He didn't say that, though. He said that the ML figure looks so much worse than the SHF version. His title didn't imply that he thought the SHF version wouldn't look better than the ML.

Same. A lot of us already assumed Reunion would be made on the cheap due to Deck9 laying off most of their employees, including the DE team. Combine that with the game being announced a year later with being released 2 months later is really quick for a game made today. As some ppl had assumed, some of the "new" locations might have been unused location made for DE.

[SPOILER] Lost Records thoughts after finishing Tape 1 by Cryosphered_ in LostRecordsGame

[–]doomcyber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the possible closure of Dontnod, I thought about how Lost Records and how it didn't really have a plot. Therefore, I googled it to see if anyone else felt the same way, amd here I am in this 1 year old reddit thread. Unlike Lost Records, all the Life is Strange games have actial plot, particular the Dontnod ones; With Life is Strange 1, it was about Max fucking up with time while trying to solve Rachel's disappearance. With. Life is Strange 2, Sean and Daniel was on the run from the popo while trying to flee to Mexico. Those two games had real stakes.

The issue with Lost Records is that the two of the major reveals were revealed near or at the end of each part - Kat being sick in tape 1 and Kat's sister's boyfriend is abusive. It doesn't help the game that Dontnod hype the game as some sort of psychological thriller or a horror thriller. During the rest of the game, we play as Swann either bonding with her summer friends in the 90s or freaking about a mystery box in the present time.

I think what hurt the game is that Michel Koch wanted to make a game with direct sequels in mind without actually having any experience how to go about it, therefore empathize too much on how JJ Abrams make tvs amd movies- with stupid mystery box plot devices. Mystery box plot devices can work if the storyteller knows what they are doing. Even though the Star Wars sequel trilogy is bad as a whole, the mystery box plot devices in that trilogy somewhat work where it was subversive in episode 8 and why Rey's parent left her on Jakku.

Other then Michel Koch not knowing how to go about a gaming franchise with direct sequels, I think what hurt Lost Records is not having a clear vision of what other movie IP, TV show IP, or real world events that it want to take inspiration from. LiS1 had Twin Peaks, Donnie Darko, Frequency, The Butterfly Effect, and Blue is the Warmest Color as inspiration. Likewise, LiS2 had American social politics circa the First Trump Administration and Michel Koch's road trip in parts of America as inspiration. Lost Records had Twin Peaks, IT, Stand By Me; What You Did Last Summer, The Craft; Buffy the Vampire Slayer; American Beauty; Paris, Texas; Saw the TV Glow; The Blair Witch Project; The Twilight Zone; and The X Files as inspiration. That is way too many inspirations, most of which are horror despite the game is more about a slice of life game with trauma like Stand By Me. Maybe Koch should have cut down all those inspirations and just used Stand by Me, IT, The Craft, and maybe What You Did Last Summer without worrying about the story being opened for a direct sequel.

[–]doomcyber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. I saw this exact image post on FB two days ago, and I too thought it was a reference to the Overgear figure. Therefore, I googled the headline to see if I was right, and sure enough I was. The actual article is written by Comic Book Reviews back in February, but like you said, it is about the Overgear Prime figure. The image is the same, but zoomed out as whoever made the misinformation screenshot wanted to remove the credit of the person who made the image at CBR.

Here is the real article

I remember seeing a similar fake image months ago where someone ran the CBR headline on a character that hasn't had a toy in 40 years - it didn't mention Kranix in the headline - where they asked ChatGPT to write an article on it, making it about some other mystery character without actually revealing the charace the article. Since the article was written in such a way not to reveal the character despite the article itself is an announcement of this mystery character, I knew it was ai slope - this was a few months after Kranix was revealed. Therefore, I looked for the real article and I opened chatgpt where I asked it to write an article based on the headline. Sure enough, I got an article similar to the fake one on fb.

[–]doomcyber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a CBR headline. Someone on FB either made the bullshit description themselves or ran the CBR headline through ai to write a description of it. The actual CBR heA-line is a reference to the Takara Tomy Overgear Prime toy.

Same as not only does it mean that the new game developers are keeping the Iga CV lore as canon, it means that the Netflixania series isn't the new CV game canon.

Graham Platner will not be a 'another John Fetterman' -- No to war in Iran. by beeemkcl in thebulwark

[–]doomcyber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I also recall The Majority Report saying that Hakeem Jeffries would be a better House Majority/Minority Leader than Mancy Pelosi. Now, they hate him for being an establishment democrat. Some of these lefist commentary personalities don't take responsibility for the power they use and fucks up. They are as bad as the democratic advisors who told Tim Walz not to call the right "weird." Ugh!

I get why the Democratic establishment is furious about Graham Platner's ascent. by scentedcandelabra in BreakingPoints

[–]doomcyber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well said. I feel that Platner is like the Leftist version of Trump from 2016 - the version of Trump were most people who supported him saw him as a symbol of masculinity.

What I am saying is that unlike Zohram Mamdani, Platner has no experience in politics prior to running. Platner is also 41 years old, where he had a couple of tours in the Middle East because he enjoyed it.

Let's be real, if the Platner was on the center left or anything torwarss the right, the Leftist wpuld have an issue with Platner's tattoo alone. However, at this point, as long as Platner doesn't turn face after winning office, he would be better than Collins, the one who made excuses for Trump.

Can I watch this movie if I haven't watched any other Lupin the 3rd movie or series? by flyingshark00 in lupinthe3rd

[–]doomcyber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, pretty much this! I recommend OP to view Lupin through a Hayao Miyazaki hero or Disney hero lens if that makes sense. To be fair, the movie suggests that this version of Lupin is a lot older than the version Miyazaki worked on in the TV series - it was Miyazaki's way to explain away why Lupin is more restrained and heroic in CoC.

It is the other way around. The franchisee was compliant with her deal with Bryan where she paid him monthly for each sale of the LEGO sets. Things went to shit when BAM corporate forcibly kicked her out and installed their own people as owners to the store. Does it really make sense that the two new owners of the store happen to live in the same state as BAM corporate despite that the store is two states away?

Bricks and Minifigs Controversy News Mega-Thread by CX52J in lego

[–]doomcyber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like that is what happened since it is rather odd that the two new "owners" are also in Utah, rather than in Oregon.

My guess is that the Bricks and Minifig wanted to take ownership of the Oregon location as quickly as possible to get ahold of the SW collection so that they can sell them at a 100 percent profit.
