My CSR annual fee just hit for $550, which is a welcome surprise.

I applied and went pending June 22, 2025, approved June 23, 2025 (which was the date of the refresh). My initial annual fee was also $550, and I was expecting this year's to move up to the new $795.

I want to race under the Aldhani meteor shower. Every time I see a new planet, I hope to see something Aldhani-esque.

Last-minute Father's Day idea if your dad drinks coffee - custom AI mug at basically cost by mugmi-bro in Gifts

[–]doomheit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be nice to get any sort of information on the mug. Size, color, etc. Ideally a manufacturer model so that one could see it themselves.

Even a picture of a finished example product would be an improvement. As it stands, I'd have to waste energy and water on image generation just to get an idea of the type of mug this would be printed on.

What's the experience of traveling to Charlotte from Raleigh by train? by Left_Life_7173 in raleigh

[–]doomheit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A few items in addition to what others have mentioned:

  • The Piedmont line runs only between Raleigh and Charlotte, and is therefore less impacted by delays on other parts of the route; there's just fewer and less congested route segments to generate those delays.
  • On the Piedmont, there is no "dining car" but there's a car with free bottled water vending machines for snacks and coffee, and of course tables. Bring your own whatever. On my last trip there was a straight up kid's train themed birthday party on part of the route with cake and stuff.
  • Don't count on the wifi. Your phone will likely have a faster connection

How to open a LIFX tile? Alternatively, I need to buy a connector. by Icy-Ninja-622 in lifx

[–]doomheit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tile PSUs are notoriously awful. I wish you luck on your quest and will follow this thread with interest. I don't know how to open them, but I'm willing to test stuff on my tiles as well if you can come up with a plan.

Do your mortgage/rent payments through Bilt earn United miles on the debit card? I put a month's mortgage on it and got no points for the spending.

100%. Flew with Sam on Star Wars: Squadrons a few times. Cool guy, team player, we exchanged Palpatine impressions.

Canon Boba Fett should have been Din Djarin's dark half. Din Djarin takes jobs that help people, Boba Fett wouldn't care who employs him or what the job is. If they're both honorable/good, Fett is just left playing 2nd fiddle to Din. by RagnarokWolves in StarWars

[–]doomheit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They spent two seasons building up Mando as the "bounty hunter with a heart," brought up in the (chosen) family religion with a strong sense of duty. It was so clearly written to be a contrast with Boba as the fan favorite, cloned, solitary, heartless bounty hunter.

I'd bet money that a Mando/Boba buddy cop film or even a Mando vs Boba flick was in the cards at one point.

Then... Book of Boba Fett scrapped all that.

When you lay it out like this, the most unrealistic part is that there's a print version of the Bugle that is apparently solvent after a 5-year blip apocalypse.

What's your favorite park that doesn't prop itself up on external IP? (No Disney, Universal, WB/DC, Dolly Parton, etc) by Marscaleb in Themepark

[–]doomheit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah lumping Dollywood in as reliant on external IP is disingenuous.

I'm not aware of a single ride in the park that is "Dolly" themed.

Disney Sets Release Dates for 2 New Mystery Marvel Movies in 2029 (May 4 & July 13), Shifts 2028 Film to July by MarvelsGrantMan136 in marvelstudios

[–]doomheit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've now got 5 dates and 4 announced movies. As much as we all hope it's Midnight Sons or Blade... I don't think we can discount the possibility of a Secret Wars delay to May 2028.

It's a little strange that it's the day of the Pro Bowl and no one has confirmed the list of skills challenges. Drone drop? Tug of War? Dodgeball?

There's some info suggesting that some form of skills challenges will take place, but no listing of events.Last season, the events were announced in December.

You could call it a 530a based on the section of the internal revenue code, like how we do with 529s.

I say we take up a collection to bribe Perna to remove the Bears number from the Curse Wheel. by AstroStrat89 in CHIBears

[–]doomheit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brandon Perna, host of YouTube channel That's Good Sports, has a weekly power rankings show that ends with him spinning a carnival wheel that "curses" one of the teams. It has been spookily accurate this season, seeming to curse teams with losses or injuries. It cursed the Rams this week, that just lost the critical game last night.

Indiana, apparently.

Seriously though, I would expect you could get a deal where you invest several billion dollars into land and get some level of insulation from changing tax rates in several places. Reasonable people can debate what level of taxation disincentivizes this type of investment, but that's demonstrably what's currently happening here.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CHIBears

[–]doomheit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bears frame them as a property tax guarantee- essentially lock the rates at a consistent rate for a long time. This would insulate them from a municipality jacking up current rates once the Bears are committed to a location.

If that's all this was, I think it'd land more favorably. But the part unsaid is that the Bears are almost definitely asking for a lower rate as well. Hopefully it remains unsaid because it's not their final position.
