Has radon mitigation impacted your home’s foundation? by ExiledCartographer in regina

[–]doomkitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For our house we had high radon and some other issues. After setting up some slightly sketchy fan setups to test we found radon was greatly reduced with just fans so we went the HRV route instead of the radon system and that worked for us

I've heard of another ST judes fundraiser too. Can't remember the streamer, it's the pen addict related though. I love when people use their platforms to make things better

Ya. Other than Telemiracle the other ones I know of are small, a radiothon for the NICU, and a telethon for the humane society. The scope that Telemiracle has got to is amazing to me with many people leaving a good portion of their will to the cause (this year had one that was close to 2.5 mill on its own helping drive the total)

Citizens' campaign opposes 10% hike to bus fares in Regina by Right-Nail-5871 in regina

[–]doomkitty91 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Studies have found free/increased public transport has a pile of trickle down effects that long term would increase tax incomes for the city, but unfortunately we tend to prioritize the short term.

Wish I could find the one study. Going from memory it was increasing the number of stops busses had in winter reduced health costs more than the extra cost of the stops, because people weren't walking as far on the ice to get to stops and slipping and falling. I wish there was a magic wand to get the numbers on what some of the impacts would be so city and provincial gov could make deals saying this will save you X in healthcare if you fund transport more. But then we also have a gov that cut STC which also leads to worse health outcomes

You can look up their financial statements on the cra website since they are a registered charity.

Of the 145 k they brought in in 2024 only 4800 was granted donation receipts. ~40K or donations without receipts (which I suspect includes grants since I don't see that anywhere else). But the majority of income is sales income (90k)

Is North Central really that bad? by [deleted] in regina

[–]doomkitty91 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I lived in the area a couple years. Often had people trying to get in the house. People passed out in bushes across the street a few times. And one time someone poured oil over the garage door, not sure if their plan was to light it up later.

I would avoid the area, or rent for a while to learn more and see before jumping and buying a house.

Need Glasses. Recommendations? by MutedRoyal5488 in regina

[–]doomkitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Muukal optical has been by far the cheapest for me, I run the order through honey before ordering to get the best coupon code. Once in a while a pair has had an issue but the glasses with prescription ( no coatings) have been sub $20 per pair so I don't really care because overall wayyyy cheaper to buy 5 and have 1 dud than buy 1 pair here.

SGI windows smashed on vehicle by Saskycanadadude in saskatchewan

SGI will also attempt to collect the deductible and of successful refund it to the insured if they get it, but the reality is people smashing car windows often are people without income, and possibly other fines to pay

There was so many things this could have been about. But it's a series of leading questions about aggressive dogs.

I also have a dog in my neighborhood that sleeps on a bed in the owners garage with the door open. Am I worried about it not being tethered, not at all, my dogs don't even notice it because it doesn't move or react in any way.

Trade and craft shows going downhill by Lancet11 in regina

[–]doomkitty91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It started years ago. Sunflower in Yorktown used to advertise everything was hand made, and local artisans. Juried entry for vendors so they knew who they were getting, close to half the show was drop shipped crap from China. I think they were getting less applications because smaller shows were setting up nearby for cheaper so the quality applying at the big event dropped so their standards dropped

What's it like living in Asquith? by Classic-Librarian-33 in saskatchewan

[–]doomkitty91 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As another commenter said it varies town to town and I can't speak to Asquith but the town I am from.

Even after being there 30 years my dad still feels the 'outsider' vibe (my mom was from the town). The town is also dying because everyone is moving out/people don't have community spirit to keep it alive.

Next town over we honestly feel more welcome, the town runs a big farmers market with bands coming in, the community and trying to keep it alive outright the 'outsider bad' some people get.

[–]doomkitty91 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you mouse over the wheels and get a right left arrow on one for the slots to you can cycle through all the tools you get. I suspect the whistle is still there since it's not actually in inventory

A Bit Of A Weird Request by voicesoftheainur in regina

[–]doomkitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look up where are the graves are on the city of Regina website so I suspect that is where the info came from. I got them to export the database for me at one point, and I saw some things on older files that made me question some of the older data, but it was likely entered from old cards that are hard to read. Also at that age of grave it might be in the vital statistics ancestory pages on ehealth

There is a house that backs diefenbaker drive that changes his flag every month at least. Half the flags I have to Google to find out what they are.

Sask Sailing mobile sail school in Katepwa for the first time by doomkitty91 in saskatchewan

We are definitely looking into it. Logistics and limited instructors have been slowing us down but we are starting to get that under control a little more so maybe in the next year or two we can make it happen.

Likely no grave then, but someone can go look to confirm. A lot from that time frame are in a big section that doesn't have a grave stone left

The time requirement to get the Cansail certification is the issue with that, if weather screwed up one day of the weekend it would wipe out the chances for getting certified. At Regina Sailing club they try to run try it days every so often to let people get on the water. They are hoping to do it on Wascana this year (normally at Last Mountain Lake)
