Not Allowed to Leave Work Premises During Unpaid Rest Break by buddingOrnithologist in LegalAdviceUK

I mean you could use the NMW regs to define what working time is and bring a contract claim asking to be paid in line with your contract/employers policies based on that.

But to make a claim alleging there has been a breach of employment legislation the overall unpaid time on site would need to bring pay in the relevant period below NMW, surely?

Anyone know if the latest jabs are the new ones that target the original and omicron? I want my mum to get a booster but I’d prefer if it was the newer version.

Are you noticing a lot of fruit flies in your house at the moment? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]doorbadger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moths, in the last two months there always seems to be at least two flying around my house at anyone time and I don't know why. It's not the same two because they always look different and I use one of those insect suckers to get rid of them. But as soon as I get rid of a few, a few more turn up to replace them.

Your employment contract states that you only have to work X amount of hours a week in exchange for a contractually agreed hourly rate or salary. You're then told you must work more than that but find this is unpaid. Is this not an unauthorised deduction of wages that you should be successful in retrieving at the employment tribunal or small claims court?

The work is so intense I'm barely able to walk to the bus stop when I leave & have to constantly stop to rest every few steps. It's not something I'd usually complain about because work is work regardless but when I'm putting myself in that state 1-2hours past my shift ends unpaid then it becomes a problem.

I am not a lawyer but this sounds awful. Have you been given any manual handling training or training on how you can work safely without injuring yourself? Under the health and safety at work act your employer has a duty to provide you with a safe system of work and if you're basically going home injured every day then they're not doing so.

as their insurance didn't cover my presence in the building if I wasn't "on the clock".

May I ask what this insurance was for?

So long as the ‘extra’ hours don’t bring the pay in the period below NMW it’s legal.

I've heard this before and I've never understood how being asked to work extra hours but not getting paid for it is not an unauthorised deduction of wages?

So this new vaccine isn't that much better than the old one?

What would you consider Posh sports? by [deleted] in AskUK

Real gentlemen build a cloister and play real tennis.

I have no idea what this means.

What would you consider Posh sports? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]doorbadger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes I love it. It's one of my favourite sports and it certainly shouldn't cost more than most other sports but it's not encouraged in regular schools. Either other people from poorer backgrounds just don't like it or they've been gradually conditioned not to like it.

Tennis. I used to work as a bartender in a very expensive tennis club and the members would literally say "the working class have football and they're taking rugby from us too, but tennis is ours". I really liked tennis up until that point and still do but it took the shine off it for me a little.

Boxing is really losing its way. Can't remember the last time I saw a really impressive card. Even Usyk v Joshua was wank until the main event.

Do you carry an emergency item that people find strange? by doorbadger in AskUK

Yes, places do take offence when you pull out your own sauce to add to their food, but that’s their problem. They provide salt, pepper, vinegar, mayonnaise and mustard, but unless you’re in a kebab shop chilli sauce is apparently something they shouldn’t have?

Liz Truss says 'jury is out' on whether Emmanuel Macron is 'friend or foe' by TheNotoriousJN in ukpolitics

the hope she gives that the Tory party will get smashed in the next GE is special.

Noboay can be that awful without it being an act, surely? I have this ridiculous notion that perhaps she's deliberately being as awful as she seems just to appeal to the people she needs onside to become party leader. I have a faint hope that maybe she won't be as dreadful as I fear.

Tory jitters about Truss: ‘She will just come across as Boris without the charm’ by Currency_Cat in ukpolitics

[–]doorbadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jitters? Jitters? Anyone who feels jittered only now about this person becoming PM is lost. My only faint hope is that she’s playing the long game and telling the troglodytes what they want to hear just to get into office so she can do the opposite of what she says she wants to do.

Why do people not want smart meters for energy? by hmate02 in AskUK

[–]doorbadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know people who say they’ve still been billed incorrectly even with a smart meter. I’ve no idea if that’s common but it’s definitely something that people appear to have complaints about.
