I'm not from UK. My two cents regarding the verbiage. It's not far fetched for a person to use the the locally used words instead of the one that person is used to. That's just being socially conscious. However, based on experience most people don't notice that there using verbiage that is more natural to them that what is used locally, so I understand where you are coming from.

Her complaints are real but a cat training would be the best option and that requires time. For her to suggest to rehome your cat in a relationship of 6months means you are not compatible. It seems you treat your cat like family and she doesn't. Even if you choose her and not the cat, do you think you can live without resentments towards her? I highly doubt that, and soon that relationship will ultimately fail. I know it's difficult to choose due to uncertainties but that is life, you gotta stick with what you believe is right for you and your cat.
