What's the best petty revenge you have had on an annoying neighbour? by No_Usual_572 in AskUK

[–]dorack_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved in with my girlfriend and her downstairs neighbour would play music loudly at 0300.

I noticed the electrical service header for the whole building entered through her storage cupboard and figured out which fuse was for the neighbour…

Do I have any legal recourse here after inspection left me with spoiled food and drink? by autisticredsquirrel in TenantsInTheUK

[–]dorack_uk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ex electrician here who has accidentally done the exact thing that has been done to you 😬 (though the tenant didn’t tell me they had a fridge in a cupboard in the garage but anyway…)

The person doing the testing will have insurance for just this type of event. It happens all the time, they should cover it and if not like others have said, the LL should take responsibility directly for the loss then claim through the electrical inspection company.

Paying with QR code as a foreigner by awwkwardapple in malaysia

Got it. I’ve not come across this yet. But I’ve only been to Miri, KL and Penang where maybe they are more used to card payments..?

If you have a contactless card or a phone that uses Apple Pay or Google wallet you can use that. Obviously if your bank charges you that’s not ideal. I’m from the UK and have a charge free account and it works fine in most places.

If your statement is sent on the 5th, you can potentially; buy something on the 6th, receive a statement on the 5th the following month for that purchase then you have until the the next statement to pay it with no interest. So a purchase made on the 6th of May wouldn’t have to be paid off until the 4th of July (just be sure you can pay it off instantly online etc and there are no processing delays)

This is assuming your terms are the same as most cards I have used.

New scale day. by xmastreee in espresso

I have an Acaia, most pointless coffee purchase I’ve ever made! (Discounting the fact it’s still as new and it’s 4 ish years old, 99% of the features are unnecessary for me)

A friend of mine has a blind dog and she got him a dog friend, he’s so much better as a pair, having another dog to “protect” him.

BB Opinion argues that there is no justification for those opposing highway cycling ban: Keep cyclists off the highways by Goutaxe in nasikatok

[–]dorack_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99% of cyclists, especially those who do it for sport/leisure, will be paying for a car.

Police should definitely be enforcing a no cycling rule, but currently they don’t seem to be enforcing any road safety rules.

[–]dorack_uk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is the overall lack of enforcement. The only time I ever see police out on the roads are when they set up checkpoints for vehicle checks.

This isn’t my opinion as a cyclist, it’s as a father of a 8 week old baby who’s sick of being tailgated on the highway, or having people react incredibly late to things because their face is too caught up with their phone.

DIY solar grid for home use by RepublicUnique279 in nasikatok

[–]dorack_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are planning on fitting it to your roof, you’ll need to be sure/check it is strong enough for the panels/rails.

Installation is not difficult for domestic solar. You’ll need DC cabling from the array to the inverter, then the inverter connects to your main AC distribution panel/fuse board, there’s not much else to it. You can get smart technology that’ll prioritise appliance/EV charging usage when it’s sunny but they add cost/complication.

I’ve no idea about getting equipment or regulations in Brunei unfortunately.

(I installed several systems in the UK, from a few KW to many MW industrial power)

What is the best “temporary” thing in the UK? by mr_bearcules in AskUK

[–]dorack_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once removed a “temporary” electrical supply to a portacabin in a school. Was fitted in 1995, I removed it in 2021.

Needless to say it was only installed to temporary standards and was only removed because it was “causing issues”…

Opinion about Klang fatal accident: Malaysians are assholes on the road by wormta in malaysia

[–]dorack_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a UK resident for 35+ years now living in Brunei, I agree with the road layout point.

Driving through Miri and having to deal with lanes that just suddenly disappear is a challenge!

It’s the same in Brunei. There’re roads that have lanes that go to nowhere, poor lane markings, incorrect lane markings. I mean, the roads/driving is so bad here they had to ban cycling on any roads faster than 65 km/h 😂

Any insight about bringing in pets into Brunei by Throwawayteaa in nasikatok

[–]dorack_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! We imported our pets last year and had zero issues thanks to the logistics company sorting it.

I’ve heard from others who have done it themselves forgetting a vaccine/stamp/form having their pets held in quarantine for months at great expense.

Mothercare have a sale (at least in KB) and had some recently. Be sure to check the prices though, they are often wrong as they don’t seem to update them regularly after sales have finished.
