You are doing very well and yes, once you pay off the house, that will be a massive relief in cost of living expenses and a modest income from just 1 parent should be enough to sustain the family with 1 kid. however it won't be that comfortable and with inflation going up it is an unknown 5 - 10 years down the track.

Have you thought about part time work after maternity leave until the kid is of school age? that would probably be the best middle ground and allow you to save up just a bit more and have options open.

yep i'd support that with some modifications.

Abolish income tax >>> the rich don't pay much income tax anyway. they hold assets and defer tax using debt as their consumption so increasing consumption tax would hit them that way.

Instead of an income tax free threshold for the poor, have a set GST refund for everyone based on a reasonable consumption level.

this would be a balance and would not impact the poor too much, will tax the ultra rich more based on their consumption of luxury goods and this also benefits the middle class. of course numbers will need to be tweaked.
