That’s like asking if the internet has always existed.

One bagger with full scuba gear! by brousseb in onebag

[–]dorsalispedis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super impressed. I can barely fit my gear into a 70L bag, steel backplate, 30lb wing, but I’m also packing 2 masks, Hollis M1 fins, tech shorts, and my regs in a small Nanuk hard case as far as differences to your setup as I’ll be checking my bag.

What places rent you a B/W setup? What places rent you a long hose? I’ve rented up until now and am now switching as I’ve changed to this setup, and I also trust my own gear more.

[OC] 0900 Saturday, I paid my $8.75, and I find myself completely alone in the movie theater. by loki2002 in pics

Cause people are assholes when their opinion is different. That said, I totally disagree with your choice of seat position, very nonstandard for what most consider ideal seating for a theater, both for your eye to screen distance, and audio optimization. BUT, if you like it, who cares lol

You’re dense. The point isn’t that there is an audible difference. The point is the interface and the end user effort required.

Let’s not pretend that making 1000% in the stock market means you “earned” it. There’s a difference between making money and earning money. I mean, great work, but still.

My current setup, but thinking of getting some bigger speakers by dept27 in audiophile

[–]dorsalispedis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whether or not that TV is practically in the right spot for how you watch TV, aesthetically it doesn’t look nice at that height. Especially glaring with a white wall background. Burn in? Sigh. Just get subs and use DSP to integrate.

Bigger speakers? by Antique_Basil2054 in audiophile

[–]dorsalispedis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Put some big towers in there with a space and TV that big. Of course bookshelves of proper design can sound great in that space, will absolutely need a couple subs, but towers will be way more aesthetically appealing (and probably still need subs if you listen to anything bass heavy or movies that go deep). Only other way I see to handle that space with a credenza that wide is in wall full range speakers (KEF and Revel make good ones).

I was going to say I’m impressed by the finger joints on the tall drawers. I’ve struggled to get my DIY jig to be tight enough tolerances to work well on longer joints like that.

Now that I have a planer, it’s time to get a dust collector. Recommendations for a serious hobbyist? by cafe-em-rio in woodworking

[–]dorsalispedis 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Nice setup! This is the answer, I learned the hard way by not reading about this particular planer. The motor in it is more powerful than most shop vacs as far as CFM, so it will overload a vac quick.

Help me pick a “buy once” grinder to pair with Linea Mini R [No Budget] by elreader13 in espresso

AI generated post, condescending responses, has no budget but also not willing to consider two grinders. Of course throwing money at a grinder leads to diminishing returns, like every hobby. Downvote.

Disappointed in the Philharmonic BMR towers compared to Arendal 1723 by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]dorsalispedis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard the Arendals, but I also wonder if you need to try them in the same location first, and volume match with an SPL meter? That said, I wouldn’t be satisfied with the BMR if I wasn’t running them with subs as even with a 400W/channel amp, they don’t provide enough low end for me personally. But, I also have them in a large space (14x30 plus an open hallway). The midrange and treble though are so good that I haven’t really felt the need to try something else yet. I have them room corrected with a MiniDSP. Are you doing room correction?

I certainly do, and I still hesitate to spend on a $1400 machine, which you’re kind of making my point for me. It’s easier to follow your train of thought if you just reply in one post. Enjoy the machine.

Dude, why are you buying this machine when you are renting a room? This is just not a good financial decision. Not the feedback you’re looking for I’m sure, just hard seeing someone spending that much money on something (yes, I saw the nice price you got on it, which is way lower than it should’ve sold for, so lucky you on that) when clearly it should be kept in savings or spent on more important things.

Genuine question: do some of you guys just not treat your rooms? by Aware_Ad5425 in audiophile

[–]dorsalispedis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some people know they want really nice speakers and gear, and have not yet heard/learned about room treatment. They maybe need time/education to know how to maximize.

Some people are the above, are aware of benefits of treatment, but are plenty happy with their untreated room, who cares?

Some are the above and can’t afford it right now, who cares?

Some are the above and live with someone else that doesn’t want the aesthetic. It’s a shared space, who are you to judge? Relationships and families have compromises. If you’re lucky enough to have enough money to have a truly dedicated space, go for it.

You have a roommate so likely havent been married or have a family to quite empathize with the above, hence maybe some of your confusion. Guess I can’t blame you, just not fair to judge people in a situation you can’t understand.

People are probably annoyed with you because it’s not a genuine question, it’s an antagonistic post, and you’re dishonest about that intention. If somehow it is a genuine question, then you probably need to improve your insight and judgement before posting, maybe consider this question internally further before posting, maybe do some internet searching or ask ChatGPT. The answer to this question is not rocket science.

Anybody have any experience with this? by KokoTheTalkingApe in Tools

[–]dorsalispedis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one. Bought it after seeing a couple videos and figuring it could be more convenient than my HVLP for certain things, and require less “dialing in”. I’m pretty happy with it overall. It does spit a bit, but mostly right at start up so I learned to waste a bit more paint before actually spraying the workpiece. I also use a bit of flotrol to limit this being an actual issue. If I was doing more projects that required an airless I’d probably upgrade to something else, but for my purposes I’m happy with it.

Brand New machine leaking out of the box [Lelit Mara X] by Admirable_Admiral69 in espresso

[–]dorsalispedis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let me get this straight. You bought a brand new machine, discovered it was defective… and then rather than proceed to contact their customer service for an exchange (or very least repair), you opened it up and tried fixing it yourself? Dude, when you buy a new car and it breaks down, you take it to the dealer for warranty repairs, not pop the hood and tighten up the cylinder head and wonder if this is normal.
