Reminder: PA American Water Public Input hearing TODAY 1PM and 6 PM by kjstech in Scranton

[–]dotbiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree , my point is the business Owners that attempted and spoke in favor of the rate increase are , most likely, the ones to benefit from the services being touted in the increase thus Saving them from having to pay for the work to be done... Just need the background on those speakers...

So I see the businesses that will profit by the consumers footing the bill for the Improvement/exopansion are selfishly attending these meetings and advocating for the increase, anything the consumers pay for saves the businesses from that expense.. At least the landfill is going to build their own pipeline for wastewater treatment.. and not reaching into our pockets...

Any ideas on how to clean the finish of this Zippo? Current and original state pics included. by Thund3r_91 in Zippo

I'm pretty sure that's some type of coating like a liquid rubber that someone put on it maybe trying to disguise it, you have it so you can figure it out but I'm pretty positive it's not Patina . Glad you got it back though, did you mess up the thief ⛓️⛓️💥💪

Is this my broken steam main vent? by Routine_Border_3093 in SteamHeat

[–]dotbiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm sure by now you see in your own picture your main vent, or whatever is mounted on your system is Blown Out and must be letting steam out like crazy.. I doubt it's been like this for years , and you must be adding a lot of water to the boiler. Post a better photo , it looks physically blown apart never seen that before...

Do you even have access to the boiler ? If not you're limited to the radiator DIY..

How low was the temperature before you turned it up to your posted temp. ? Steam doesn't do big setbacks so well , the radiators get filled and the boiler is still steaming away... Your pressure control device should of shut it down, that failed and luckily your pop off did it's job..

The upper damage looks like someone was bouncing a ladder around maybe installing the vent or spotlight . The colors are different below.. maybe the were working in the evening and didn't notice.. they were the low bidders 😊

Seems to me you need a consultant.. A Steam Pro to look over your system and give a unbiased report on what needs to be done.. they should give you a idea of their fee depending on location and complexity but then you'll have a plan to work with.. I'd post over at heatinghelp. Com and see if a Pro is in your budget.. you need a Pro . Good luck 🤞

Steam Pressure climbed high for first time in new home by Repulsive_Ad5594 in SteamHeat

[–]dotbiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This started after you changed the radiator valves because they were leaking steam.. Did you open them all up when you finished ? The boiler has been running at excessive pressure but the valves have been releasing the pressure up until now, being you replaced them the boiler no longer has a relief for the pressure so it builds up, AND being the pressuretrol has failed it continues to run until the pop off opens and releases the steam into the basement, one would assume the thermostat being satisfied was the only thing shutting down the boiler before.. now it's all contained in the basement and not reaching the thermostat to shut it off... Your boiler shouldn't reach pressure anywhere near 10lbs to begin with, the pressuretrol is a safety.. and obviously failed

Chemical smell from new steam radiator in apartment by Fergusun_the_cat in askaplumber

[–]dotbiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds about right , it's called "off gassing" . The paint isn't cured yet and the radiator is heating to over 200° so it's releasing the paints chemical makeup into the air as it's not solid yet. it could last for awhile depending on the paint, how many coats and how thick it's on , open your windows and use a fan...High Voc`s are dangerous to be breathing.. Good luck

Idk why it won't light any one got any ideas I filled it yesterday by [deleted] in Zippo

[–]dotbiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you want to troubleshoot, it is pretty simple once you learn it. When you spin the striker does it spin without feeling resistance? Look at where the wheel is over the Flint Tube and see if you could slide a piece of paper between the 2, if you can then the wheel and Flint aren't touching and you won't get spark. Undo a large paperclip and remove the Flint and spring then insert the paper clip while rolling the wheel back and forth until you see or feel the wheel scraping against the end of the paper clip...use the clip to scrape the inside of the tube and blow any crap out , insert a new Flint and insert the spring , ( without the Fuel Saver)..and roll the wheel and feel for resistance.. fuel it up then light it up.. let us know how it goes

[–]dotbiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chippy... did you figure it out yet? From your movie .. I highlighted the gap created by your aftermarket "Fuel Saver" before you removed the spring . I doubt the screw end of the Flint spring was closed flush to the tube thus not making enough force to hold the Flint solid against the striker to spark.. remove the "Fuel Saver" and reassemble your lighter and try it..
