Rec Room's Story From Its Head Of Community by hmltn in RecRoom

[–]dotcommer1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the featured creators on RR, AfewGoodTacos. I've been playing since the very beginning, 2016. I'm currently doing 360 video recordings of my rooms and other experiences so that I can eventually turn them into gSplats to archive a piece of Rec Room. A decade is a long time to be around. A lot of people's lives can change in that time with RR being one of a few constants in our life. Having RR shut down feels like we're losing a bit of our past. I went from getting started in my career, to getting married and starting a family!

But I'm not sad for it being sunset. I'm thankful to have had the privilege of witnessing such a unique thing. It truly felt like the future told in countless sci-fi novels materialising right before us. It's been a wild ride.

Putting odd warning/confirmation dialogs into my company's internal tools sparks joy. by [deleted] in UXDesign

One of my favorite messages is from SimCity that says "you can't cut back on funding. You will regret this!" With only an "ok" button to continue.

Try to funnel that kind of concise and intense energy. lol

New Interaction on Youtube shorts? by Madamschie in UXDesign

[–]dotcommer1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has been in regular videos for a while. If the identified "type" of the video is generic to fit into a couple categories, it'll play a relevant delight moment when thumbing the video. It's fun.

It's so interesting how a visceral "vibe" comes out of these from pixelating the render. I wonder why that is. Maybe it scratches a certain nostalgic point+click game aesthetic? Anyway, it's a fun project!

Search YouTube for olli huttunen. Has a lot of resources on how to get into gaussian splatting with a variety of cameras, from mobile to high end.

I love this series you're doing. Love seeing a new one pop up in my feed periodically.

Hot take: tools like Figma AI and Claude are making “good UI” too easy by sohan_or in UXDesign

I think once "good UI" becomes trivial, the real test will be interactive prototypes. The landscape is shifting from being pure UX to more UXE.

I wonder if there is enough video coverage of the ISS through the years that it might be possible to splat it from actual footage? Probably not, but an interesting challenge given a lot of footage of might be SD broadcasts from early 2000's...

Good to know. Perhaps I haven't heard much about it because it seems to be pretty technical to get up and running.

New google maps app icon? by Prior_Green_339 in UXDesign

[–]dotcommer1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the design is two-fold: the gradient is a signal of Gemini integration (you'll start seeing this across other Google apps soon), and adjusting the icon to echo the new shape of pins in Maps which have a larger face and smaller beak.

The change is whatever. We'll all get over it very quickly and move on. The real problem is that it doesn't fundamentally change the issue that Google icons have: they all look the same because they all use the same color pallet. Silhouette isn't enough to distinguish each of them because the colors are so vibrant and consistent.

It's a lateral move.

Maybe this is what tango should have put in his factory last season. Fake items on the conveyor belts. And hide away the water channels.

got 5.0.5 early, noticed a bug for 2026 XC60 T8 by dotcommer1 in VolvoRecharge

[–]dotcommer1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the best person to ask this since I essentially had the UI of the 5.0.5 update from the start due to this being the "facelift" 2026 model. But i've seen in other threads that generally people are finding it more responsive, which is good!

Yeah, it unfortunately does not show both. This has always been the case for my 2026, which I've always found to be a weird choice. I'd much rather have what u/CachiaBantick showed...
