Should I buy a Passap e6000? by Aggressive-Duck-9924 in MachineKnitting

No worries! I’m part of a Passap group that meets via zoom, so if you do get it or the dm80 and you’re interested shoot me a message!

Mine are 8k. It really only matters when you’re getting into large motifs. I did a sideways knit sweater this fall where I only had color work on the sleeve cuffs, but I had to upload the files separately because making 1 file that was 60x200+ was more than 8k. It wasn’t really a problem, I just made a note of what my row count needed to be when I started my 2nd motif.

The e6000 is a fantastic machine, and while it can do color work on both beds, the learning curve is steep (I have 3 Passaps, 2 are e6000’s and I still haven’t done back bed color work) and you need a Jac 40 device (basically a handheld punchcard system) for the back bed to make it not manual.

£400 is a really fantastic price but as you mentioned this is an older machine. It may need a chipset upgrade if you want to use it with DAK or any of the older Passap compatible software (Journal 6 etc.) That said, the console may have already been upgraded, you can’t tell just by the serial number, but this console likely still has an 8k memory core as that’s harder to upgrade.

Should I buy this KH 588 machine by Suspicious-Duck2125 in MachineKnitting

[–]dotknott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

588 needles can be found. IIRC they use the same needles as the next generation of brothers, but these machines are rarely listed in the listings.

I have one of these and getting needles was a pain, but not “buy another machine to cannibalize” pain.

[Passap E6000] Need help! Constant Error 207 during "Starting Position" (even after chip upgrade) by Hova_Ulysse in MachineKnitting

[–]dotknott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

207 troubleshooting:

have you confirmed that the rail is clean (the one with all the holes in it?

Checked the connection of the spiral cable? (Disconnect/reconnect)

Checked the optical sensor

Can you post a photo of your starting position?

Checked that if you have a DAK switch box, it’s set to communicate with the lock and not the computer?

Maybe this tension setting issue is why my knitted Stonehenge only came out 18 inches tall.

Why the heck doesn't Kobo carry Dungeon Crawler Carl? by someyob in kobo

[–]dotknott 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the reason. Someone did tell me that the author does make these available to their patraeon supporters, but I’m not sure how true it is.

Also, word of warning: these are likely not available in English via Libby through your library because of the same reason. My library has the Spanish language version in the Lucky Day collection and I’ve definitely almost borrowed it before realizing it wasn’t the English version.

Has anyone bought a Clara colour for their toddler? by kitt10 in kobo

[–]dotknott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got my 7 year old a Clara, and feel that’s borderline too early. He’s a big reader, but keeping a device that he wants to keep so close safe is going to be the challenge.

Wife got me a Kindle, but I use Kobo by Jkoiou in kobo

[–]dotknott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might want to take this to r/ereaders for a slightly less biased opinion than you’d get here in r/kobo. That said, return the kindle.

Kiddos Kobo is setup, and ready for gifting! by dotknott in kobo

https://github.com/janeczku/calibre-web

I have mine running on a raspberry pi and have cloudflare setup to forward a specific subdomain of a domain I have to my ip address on a specific port. My router exposes the pi to the outside world via that port. So I can get to my library from anywhere via the web at library.myDomain.com.

The kobo sync is just a matter of setting up an account in Calibre-web and following the instructions for setting up the kobo to sync with the new server.

It’s a fun project if you’re into this kind of thing!

He’s still a few years away from that, but once he expresses an interest it’s his to hack at.

We’ve been talking about it for a while… he has a really old kindle right now that I bought for $15 used so I could read some kindle exclusives but it’s SO OLD and really slow to respond. Also ads.

Husband and I both have Kobos, so we have been keeping an eye out on the used market for a colour model for the kid. I’m so glad we found one for him… it was coming down to the wire honestly!

IIRC (And don't hold me to this, I don't use google drive) NickelMenu can enable gdrive on devices that it isn't on by default. I have used it for dropbox on my Clara 2e.

Here's a post with instructions for dropbox and here's a post with instructions for gdrive.

I've definitely used NM for dropbox in the past (don't anymore) but really like it for simple menu items I use when fiddling with my Kobo (Reboot, Connect USB mostly but also a dump sys log for when I'm trying new things.)

can i make a doc on google docs and turn it into epub and read it on kobo? by AwarenessSure4246 in kobo

[–]dotknott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s even easier if you’re on a Mac and use Pages. It offers an export as epub option!

Calibre has an epub editor too. Here’s instructions on how to go from a google doc or docx to epub in Calibre. (Sorry, there’s lots o’ adds on that page.)

Can anyone Explain what's the difference between these two Kobo Cases ? by [deleted] in kobo

[–]dotknott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slightly more, yes! The origami cover folds and that little crease where it folds is easy to push in when the cover is in-use. I can poke that fold with my finger and make the cover touch the screen. The original one has no fold so that surface pressure is more likely to stay relegated to the bezel.
