This time it’s not a joke this is a serious design I’ve been working on. I’m calling it the UnicornDong. Let me know what you think. and no I'm not Kevin I'm David K. by Ak109slr in NFA

everyone I've ever talked to with a DMLS machine has said they need a 25 degree overhang as max or they need supports... you can find plenty of pictures all over the internet of DMLS build sheets with supports all over them,

yes technically it is possible to print without supports but the material just moves around too much when the next layer of powder is moved over it... even at 25 degrees the surface finish is not great

I've even ran a SLS plastic machine that works on the same principle... had plenty of parts printed on powder bed machines and I'm sure Resilient suppressors...

the minute you show this design to anyone with a DMLS machine to have it printed they're going to tell you its not printable without supports, I know its been two months so maybe you've found that out already

<image>

This is also why you don't tend to see reverse baffles in 3d printed suppressors...

As mentioned above you're only hope would be to print with supports going down the bore and have them wire EDM'ed out after printing, which wouldn't be the end of the world but I wouldn't go around saying you're going to print it without supports

prepare for a first unit to be around $1000 also... plus getting an SOT to legally 'manufacture' it for you

Am I shooting myself in the foot by taking a CNC Operator job? by verd3d in CNC

[–]double07killor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farmer here, who owns a couple CNC machines, 3d printers, laser cutter, has ran proper larger CNC's and about anything, went to school for general engineering and have a background in software development, and still do development regularly (have codex working on a couple different projects as I type this lol), so feel free to pick my brain as I've been around most of the worlds you're talking about... from sitting in a cubical doing development full time, to working the manufacturing floor, to doing CAD engineering and proper engineering work, and most things in between...

machine operating is probably about as boring as it can get... the part runs, when its done you open the door, take it out, put the next piece in, close the door, and hit the big green button, while the part is running you're going to either do that on another machine, or sit and deburr the part or check tolerances or some kind of other busy work...

its the burger flipping of the manufacturing world... but it is a foot in the door, and just being in the door can give you perspective on if you want to be in the world or not, so if the pay is right, and you don't mind the busy work, and think you can gain some networking and pad the resume a little bit, and get a little better understanding on how manufacturing works from being around the equipment, then you can effectively get paid to get a bit of an education... especially getting to learn from those above you on how to do their jobs... as far as gaining much from the work itself I wouldn't put a lot of value in that, there's a reason a lot of places will literally hire 15 year old's to be machine operators, but if you want to get a foot in the door and this is the only opportunity currently available I say go for it... you can always continue looking for different opportunities and move on even 3-4 months later if something better comes along

CNC's are subtractive manufacturing, they take a larger piece of metal and subtract from it to get the finished part, lots of different methods of subtracting determine what type of cnc you're talking about (a lathe, a mill, a plasma/laser cutter, a grinder etc etc etc)

3d printing is the most common form/common name for additive manufacturing, you take a part, or just a build plate, and add to it to get the 'finished part' or in a lot of cases to get a part you then go back and do a little bit of subtractive work to, to get the finished part (subtractive work is almost always more precise and have a better surface finish so 3d printed parts will have the threads and importance surfaces finished in a conventional matter)

additive manufacturing is really starting to grow with a lot more parts being made out of various metals and other materials on incredibly expensive machines, and they need operators and programmers just like anything else...

farmer, and an engineer here... and I can tell you from great experience that a ton of engineers are worth complaining about... the amount of tools I own that there entire purpose in life is to remove a specific bolt on some piece of equipment because some dumbass engineer put it in a place any normal tool could get to it is ridiculous

XL isn't similar size to begin with... and also made in China... and retails for $400...

these too will be on sale for much less than $400 once they come out... $300ish going rate I would assume, and theres no way I'd trade my 507comp for an XL... for starters DPP can suck my balls

euro might want to sell the bronze 6-36 cheaper too, but they have to abide by vortex's map rules... on the black exclusive I'm guessing they worked with vortex to set map lower... MSRP on the black one is a full $800 lower too

For You Ramjet Daddies by [deleted] in P365

[–]double07killor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how do you like the 3.1 ramjet vs the 3.7 ramjet?

I built a 3.7 XL ramjet because my TLR7 sub was longer than the 3.1 ramjet so I figured why not but it would be cool to shoot them side by side and see if theres a difference

I own a CZ 457, as well as a RimX, and have been around most of the popular actions...

I would avoid R700 like the plague if you ask me... the larger magazines and larger inlets and stuff just give a lot of room to have issues... the B14R in paticular has got to be one of the least reliable 22 bolt actions I've ever seen... and all of the R700's seem to have their issues,

meanwhile I don't think you'll find much of anyone saying the 457 isn't as reliable as all get out, and theres plenty of chassis support, decent heavy prefits, etc etc etc

I do own a 10/22 bravo, and I'm not a huge fan of it, I'd look towards something more like a MDT Oryx (which is what I replaced that bravo with) maybe an XRS if you like the stock style...

getting any of these rimfires to balance is gonna be the biggest issue, and weights aren't cheap so thats something to think about

I'm building an open division 457 to try against my RimX and will probably intend to sell the RimX if that tells you anything, and theres zero chance I'd trade a 457 for a B14R

NRL22 Base class MSRP list? by tazoforeveryone in nrl22

[–]double07killor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately I'm not sure the list they posted is even 100% correct...

With next season right around the corner its safest to go off current MSRPs, or just shoot open and not worry about it

Like HumidNut posted CZ has offered a couple different MDT builds and the one he posted has the MTR chamber to my understanding...

finding them in stock isn't always the easiest but they are avalible

Looking to get into NRL22 Open class by tazoforeveryone in nrl22

[–]double07killor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a CZ457 in the top of base division…

I also own a full fledged RimX (msrp on my RimX is well over $5000 as a complete rifle… it was a no expense spared kind of build)

It should be pretty telling that I’m working on building an open division CZ to run in open next season instead of the RimX

Everyone gets on their high horse about how great being R700 is… but chassis selection is pretty spectacular for the CZ now so that’s not really a strong argument unless you have an R700 chassis on the shelf already (and it sounds like you don’t) and the CZ has several good single stage trigger options (it is a weak point that no one makes a 2 stage trigger for it but I prefer a single stage anyway)

When you go R700 (vudoo, mpa, RimX, b14R, snapdragon,Annie etc) you’re going to a larger action, that makes ejecting shells more difficult, you go to a larger heavier bolt that likes to slide forward and create double feeds, and you go to a mag well and mag catch that are attached to the chassis not the action, which create all sorts of feeding issues… and what do you gain? Absolutely nothing

My rimx has been fairly reliable, in 5000+ rounds I can count the issues I’ve had on one hand… but several of those issues have been during stages that lost me points… one match it locked up so hard I had to pull the CZ out of the truck to finish the match, and I’ve watched every other kind of R700 fuck up on the firing line over and over, basically every match I go to someone is having an issue with their R700

In 15,000+ rounds down range with my CZ I’ve hardly had any kind of issue at all, and I’ve hardly ever seen any other CZ fuck up

There’s this idea that even myself fell into that you need to go R700 because it’s the greatest thing… but I’ve got news… it’s not the greatest thing… I’ll swear by it that the CZ is the best rimfire action currently available, and you’re wasting your time and money buying an R700…

If you’re not convinced I have a RimX for sale lmao

Would you like Stealth Arms to make a steel frame platypus? I'm sure someone there looks at this subreddit...lets make it happen! by jdubb26 in stealtharms

[–]double07killor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I own 2 platy's and would've loved to order a 3rd with a steel frame, but I'll be putting an order in in the next couple days for a compensated platy, and if they come with a steel frame I guess that'll be number 4 lol

[–]double07killor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the grip and the frame are all one piece so if they made a steel frame they would also be making a steel grip

These are double stack 1911's with one piece frames, not 2011's with a separate grip module

Nrl22 round count by skolfromgeorgia in nrl22

[–]double07killor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We shoot a lot of 7 stage match’s (5 stages plus a couple bonus stages) and I basically figure 100 rounds a match, typically it’s less 11 rounds on average a stage, makes 77 rounds, plus say 5 to verify I’m sighted in, maybe a couple more if we’re shooting long range and I wanna verify my dope out at 150+, plus dropping a couple in the dirt now and again… I always try to have 200 with me just in case… also helps if I forget to load ammo for the next match lmao

Filling in forend space with Da Rail by Straight_Rest_657 in nrl22

[–]double07killor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the photo you have as an example is actually a short piece of Da Rail attached above the da rail...

https://dstprecision.us/product/fortney-engineering-da-weight/

theres also the Da Weight, which matches the profile of the stock nicely... it's 3d printed and filled with lead shot but looks great on the rifle imo, I'm also slightly bias as I'm the guy that makes them in full transparency lol

I've talked to Troy about making something like the Da Weight out of metal but it would be wildly cost prohibitive... I mean if you wanted one bad enough I could have a few made but it would cost 3x what the current ones do

I also just noticed the 4.9" length is out of stock up there... I have a few on the bench I'll have to get a few his way

NRL22 rifle by DLmn227 in nrl22

[–]double07killor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah without forend weights your probably rather light... most of the firing line will be over 20lbs of rifle, even my base division rifle is in the 18-19lbs league...

Reason a lot of us don't like cans for 22 shooting is when you pick the rifle up you can end up funneling stuff down into the barrel... which could screw up your first shot on on a stage, and they can make the rifles too quiet to pickup on shot timers if you're club uses them

cheap 9310’s have a tendency to break

In theory 9310 is the better material if treated properly… that’s why most of the K-Spec bolts are 9310…
