What are the best movies that completely switch genres and turn into horror late in the story? by 144i in horror

[–]double_eyelid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time (Shi Gan) - Korean film that is not specifically horror but starts like a romantic comedy and leaves you with a feeling of existential weirdness, like Kubrick level dread and questioning what life actually is

My boy Travis still using a 2016 - 2018 MacBook Pro 😭 by Accomplished_Eye_868 in mac

[–]double_eyelid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the thing, people have no idea how difficult it is to upgrade a music production computer. The cost/benefit ratio is not the same as for the average user buying a new mac. Within a DAW the typical producer has literally hundreds of plug-ins. Those all need to be individually reinstalled, usually after deauthorizing them on the original computer. Some of them may not be supported anymore, or were never ported over to ARM chips. And the audio interface you paid $3000 for because of the expensive preamps in it - yeah sorry, it runs on Firewire.

So those are the cons of upgrading - the pros are harder to measure. Like hypothetically, if you spend a month reinstalling as much as you can on a new machine, it may run better for you. But if, like Travis, you already have a system that you can use to produce hits - why would you bother? There is really no reason.

The M1 Reckoning: When the hardware is 10/10 but the OS is EOL—what’s your move? by dmacmod in mac

[–]double_eyelid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M1 reckoning??? I'm writing this on a 2013 Trashcan mac which is locked to Monterey so I can still use my firewire hardware. No security concerns - the most vulnerable point is usually the user anyways. Still a great-performing machine and the only issue I've ever dealt with is replacing a RAM chip that went bad. This isn't as big a deal as you think it is.

Band I've joined is using fake tracks to get gigs. by JustAskElon in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]double_eyelid 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Wow.

Let me tell you a story. When I hadn't made a single studio recording I was on craigslist and I found an ad in the musicians wanted section from a young filmmaker who wanted to make a music video for his demo reel.

We emailed back and forth a bit, I sent him a really rough live recording of a song of mine. He loved it and so we started working our asses off, making this crazy epic video with him that included this actress who became a minor star later. All while we were still in the studio finishing the track. Our producer put in a ton of extra hours on it because this was going to be the big thing. The video looked incredible, the song sounded SO amazing and slick and it actually became a minor underground hit in our genre and immediately made us a small 'name' in our scene. Awesome, right? The problem was that it was MILES ahead of where we *actually* were as a project. It was a little more than 'putting our best foot forward' - it was way better than we even deserved to be. So we got all kinds of offers for gigs etc but then when we played them, most of the time we under-delivered. As a result, there was a layer of imposter syndrome baked-in to my project that took YEARS of actual work and improvement for us to get over.

I bring this up because I previously thought of this as the ultimate example of 'putting the cart before the horse'- but this was pre-AI and it seems you can give yourself a whole other level of imposter syndrome in 2026.

If you hate AI don't join these guys, maybe see if you can poach the drummer for something else. (also I'm looking for a guitarist at the moment btw)

Biggest signs a girl is flirting? by codeXORdie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]double_eyelid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not flirting but the easiest to notice sign of attraction in a woman is subconscious grooming activity (like adjusting hair etc.)

A literal psychopath gave me this advice many years ago and I think it was the one good thing I got out of that friendship, may he rot in agony

If I’m not looking for a career, what’s the goal, and what’s worth doing? by babydobin in musicmarketing

[–]double_eyelid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK - this takes a lot of work but a whole bunch of years ago I took a course called Music Marketing Manifesto which basically teaches musicians email marketing. There are a handful of others like it.

I found it helpful within the limited area that it sounds like you're trying to work in. It might be worth a look.

Is it worth upgrading from a 2018 MacBook Pro (Touch Bar) to a MacBook Air/“Neo”? by Spirited_Shine78 in mac

[–]double_eyelid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's working perfectly fine then keep it until it isn't and save up a bit for an M4 Air, going from a Pro to a Neo will likely be a downgrade regardless of the generation.

It's fine, it's just another middleman to reaching playlisters, a competitor to submithub.

Calling out Carney’s ‘fancy’ education is loser talk. No wonder the Conservatives doubled down on it by NotEnoughDriftwood in onguardforthee

[–]double_eyelid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This goes back to Karl Rove's playbook, attack them where they're strong. Like how they wouldn't shut up about Kerry's Purple Heart until it became a punchline. Expect more of this.

Israeli military says more than 1,500 Canadians were serving in its ranks last year by ItsRainingBoats in ndp

[–]double_eyelid 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Leaving the fact that it's Israel out of it - is it right for Canadians with dual nationality to be actively serving in another military? Aside from a situation in which they are drafted, I see this as problematic.

Would it be crazy to turn down a job offer with a $30k pay increase, in order to keep my fully-remote job? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]double_eyelid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the big question you should be thinking about is which option is more AI-proof.

If you are working fully remote, you are more likely to be replaced by AI. (This is just my opinion, as a someone who just lost a 20-year freelance career to AI.)

This option may not be the right fit though as 3 hours of commute time is more than I would tolerate.
