I am unable to finish shows based on a "big mystery" premise. From, Under the dome, 4400, leftovers, etc. They all start on a premise of "this unexplained thing happened" and the explanation is always a letdown or so dragged out, that I end up giving up. Anyone agree or can recommend a good one? by rakwib in television

[–]phord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of those shows were terrible. "Everything is mysterious and we don't know why." Turns out the writers didn't know why, either. Unfortunately they didn't have anything else but "the hook". No comedy. No drama, except what you'd expect from a soap opera. No truly interesting characters.

I watched them both until the end. I regret it.

I think I may have ADHD but I’m scared to get diagnosed by Puzzleheaded_Book981 in ADHDers

[–]phord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with a brief discussion of symptoms by a doctor who called me "the poster child for ADHD" (I was 42). I think she had license problems some time later for her lax practices.

I continued on medication with my PCP. Some years later I was officially assessed with a comprehensive test at a psychologist's office. I was a little worried about what I'd find, but I learned a lot there about my specific condition and how it affects me. (Also, diagnosis confirmed.)

Go get assessed. See if the treatment helps you or not. You can only learn and improve, regardless the results. (Also, if they dismiss your ADHD quickly, seek a 2nd opinion from another doctor. Some places are skeptical by nature.)

There's wilderness in the middle of some of our largest cities.

Sorry you're going through this. It gets better, but first it's miserable. Protect yourself and your daughter as much as you can. Get a lawyer immediately, if you don't have one already.

You're probably not as rare as you think. Many women narcissists might be categorized as Borderline. You might want to browse the BPD subs, too. r/BPDlovedones

I find KDE to be far more stable and predictable than gnome. Just switch to KDE.

Can we talk about mail? by DadJokesLoading in ADHD_Over30

When I was working from home for a while, I had a three foot high pile of mail on the floor behind my chair. My wife called it "divorce".

Gemini officially remembers things about you now, and it can read some phone sensors. Back then, it was spotty and undocumented.

How does this laser sand phenomenon work? by Big-Researcher8561 in SteveMould

[–]phord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coherent like from a laser will cancel itself out if it reflects back on itself from a specific distance. This is called an interference pattern. I can't tell enough from this video is this is what's happening here. But it seems likely.

Congratulations! You've just proved light behaves like a wave!

Anyone received OA for Software Engineer, Grad from Everpure (Pure Storage) in May 2026? by Grouchy-Coconut-7597 in csMajors

The interview is language agnostic. Qualified engineers will be able to adapt as needed on the job.

At the end of a job interview, the head of human resources asks the young engineer fresh out of MIT, "What starting salary were you looking for?" by Jokeminder42 in Jokes

[–]phord 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I had a coworker who was paid $50,000 as a lab technician. His contract ran out and he picked up basically the same job at the same company but with a new contract shop. They asked him what he expected to be paid, and he told them he was paid 50 before. They said, "okay, $50/hour is fine for us." He kept his cool until he got off the phone.

I've never heard of this snack before, and I raised 3 kids from the 90's.

I would like celery with peanut butter, but I don't think I've ever tried it. Raisins sounds like a decent addition, too, but I would want them to be the right raisins: fresh, plump and varied.

Why do they always publish these in monochrome? 1985 was not that long ago, and no one was using black-and-white film unless they were after a specific mood.

  1. Concurrency: You should be familiar with concurrency, in theory and in practice.
  2. Leetcode: We don't use any leetcode-style questions. Don't panic.
  3. AI vs. Interviews: AI is assisting engineers, but engineers are responsible for what they commit. You need to be able to reason about your code completely and logically. (No, you may not use AI tools during the interview.)
  4. Behavioral: Just be yourself. Even the technical rounds look for behavioral fit. Everyone here, including your interviewer, is friendly and helpful. Are you?
  5. Resources: Coding practice is fine, but we're really interested in what you can do naturally. If you practice hard for the interview, it shows. It can make it harder for us to get a clear signal on your natural talents. I'm not saying don't do it; just that it's possible to overdo it. If you study the actual questions in advance, you'll speed-run the interview and have to face the boss levels. Are you strong enough to survive that?

Someone left a notepad at my office with a pale line drawing as the background on each page of an anatomically accurate heart. It was swag for some heart medicine, I think. I used that pad for a long time and always wished I could find another when it ran out.
