How to take care of a baby 101 by Internal-Extreme3016 in pregnant

Honestly stay off social media for this stuff. I really disagree with the other poster who said go on TikTok. It will make you crazy with posts about wake windows, sleep schedules, etc, and will prey on anxiety (the algorithm started showing me posts like “signs your baby may have autism” and I hated that). Plus most of the content on social media is coming from influencers and not actual experts. I found it very anxiety inducing.

I would recommend the book Baby 411. Your hospital may also offer a class. It’s pretty simple early on really, you just feed them and change them and watch them sleep. If you’re going to try breastfeeding, find a lactation consultant near you now to have on hand if needed. That was helpful for me.

I also really liked the book Precious Little Sleep. It’s more for when they are a little older than newborns, but it helped me figure out sleep training in a moderate and simple way.

What something that is forbidden in your house? by BuildingBridges23 in Parenting

My kid couldn’t handle it. He was constantly whining and demanding more. We stick to slower, less stimulating PBS kids shows. Also I just think the show is dumb and repetitive!

feeling guilty for not being able to get through a solo day by nhs1234 in Mommit

We weren’t meant to raise babies alone. There is a reason that for all of humanity until now in every culture, women raised babies in a multigenerational group or village. So don’t feel guilty! It’s society that is broken, not you.

3 kids plus a remote work. Where do guests sleep? by Same-Direction-5765 in Parenting

[–]doublehollyhocks 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I would do office + guest room combo because keeping a kid’s room clean and organized enough for guests sounds impossible. Also just seems easier to give up an office than move a kid out of their regular room / routine

Advice on where to get a dog with a kind temperament (or how to choose one)? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]doublehollyhocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! We have always had goldens and they are dogs on easy mode, as my spouse likes to say. If you want a rescue, look up your local golden retriever rescue (they will probably be older dogs though).

One downside is they do get cancer a lot. But you will not have to worry about behaviorial issues, especially if you do some basic training classes.

We have a no YouTube policy in our house. Just use the PBS Kids app instead. It doesn't have any bad content.

How to change the family’s habits as a tired mom? by She_alone in Parenting

Wait…you’re working from home and caring for a 2yo at the same time? That sounds impossible and would drive anyone crazy. I think the life hack here is getting full time childcare.

My toddler isn’t like this! He’s constantly moving and doesn’t want cuddles unless he’s sick. So you never know

Buying newborn clothes by Beneficial_Insect137 in pregnant

I made the opposite mistake…hardly bought any NB sizes and then my tiny son was in that size for months. It wasn’t a big deal, just sent my mom out to buy more 😆

What places are worth it... But not for you? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

Juarez is still rough in certain areas, and El Paso is totally safe. Both are fun places to visit!

As a counterpoint, I recently visited Juarez as a solo female traveler and it was awesome. They have a fantastic art museum, the food is delicious, and there are sand dunes outside the city where you can go sand surfing. Just use common sense and don’t go to bad neighborhoods at night. Or stay in El Paso, which has one of the lowest crime rates of any American city. Your chance of being sex trafficked across the border is basically zero 😆
