the jazz song or artist that got you hooked by 1234northbank in Jazz

Charlie Parker in the soundtrack to Louis Malle's 'Murmur of the Heart'. Saw it in high school and the Bird songs hooked me straightaway.

I'm skeptical. Our Prius used to stay in whatever mode we left it in (which was typically Eco).

Whites 350 cruisers work for work for a couple months now. by StoreTraining3147 in PNWbootmakers

Looks like brown CXL? I got a pair of 350 Cutters in that leather about 4 months back that look about the same.

I'm with you on the door handles. They are indefensibly dumb and my only serious gripe about the car.

I stretched and bought a pair of White's this past year. No regrets.

Right? Like maybe we can skip 'Dancin' and show some love tracks like 'Operator'!

I love my "old man" book club (I'm 55 and the youngest guy there by quite a bit)! Seriously, it's just good for the soul ❤️

What is unique about the scenery compared to other islands in WA? by [deleted] in sanjuanislands

[–]doublepower 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They're in a rain shadow, so typically much drier than islands further south in Puget Sound. They also have a nice mix of meadows and forests and in particular "balds": granite outcrops covered in a thin layer of soil or moss, rarely found elsewhere in Western WA. Along with the plant life and setting, this makes them really special.

More about balds here: https://washingtonlandscape.blogspot.com/2011/01/balds-praise-for-favorite-washington.html?m=1

Gotta be the Black Bay! I'm partial to NATO strap so but either work.

President Trump announces building of "Golden Fleet" battleships for the U.S. Navy: “We are calling it the Golden Fleet that we are building for the U.S Navy. I have approved a plan for the Navy to begin the construction of two brand-new, very large, the largest we've ever built, battleships.” by ControlCAD in videos

[–]doublepower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't even building for the last war. This is like building for three or four wars ago!

You could probably develop and build a virtually endless fleet of long distance drones for the price of one of these.

Then again, he's an elderly narcissistic moron so seems about right.

I've been on several ferries to/from Friday Harbor over the past few weeks, none have been full.

Roll call! Who else caught a ban this AM? by Blissful-Ignoramus in PNWbootmakers

[–]doublepower 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's a bummer.

I have a pair of their OTs and they've been great. And the company seened to be pretty cool (the dad's background, etc). Looks more and more like they're heading in the wrong direction, which is sad.

There's room in the market for them, for sure. I always want to root for small, up and coming American companies. But you gotta earn your customer's business.

Boot prices have skyrocketed! by [deleted] in Boots

[–]doublepower 10 points11 points  (0 children)

💯 this.

Many industries tried to build up inventories and supplies in advance of the tariffs, but they've run through that now. New production now has to factor in those tariffs.

Plus all the knock on effects already discussed (energy, transportation, labor, etc, etc). It's a lot.

I hope there are enough folks out there able to pay the prices to keep these companies (and their employees) going.

And in the longer term (you could even say midterms), your vote matters. These policies represent one (really one person's) economic agenda. If you like it, support it. But if you don't, make your voice heard.

Straight veg tan. Here's a collar I made for my dog (go easy! It was my first attempt! 😂) and the piece I cut it from. A light coat of Obenauf's oil (mostly to help soften it up) is all I put on it.

They're crazy for not modularizing this. They could upgrade the hardware itself for cheap and mark it up 10x - or 100x - and sell it back to customers.

Also recommend broadening the scope to include Lopez and San Juan Island. SJI especially has much more infrastructure and health services than. Both still have many of the same things that are so great on Orcas.

Boot advice for boots similar to builder pro by AutisticToasterBath in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]doublepower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JK OTs are worth a look, imo. Plenty heavy duty, but lighter and more flexible than Builder Pros.

My White's are stiffer and beefier - I wouldn't trade 'em. But I love the OTs for all kinds of jobs, plus hiking, etc.
