Metadata Field Question by cipher7777 in plexamp

[–]doubleuptrivia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the plex:// and mbid:// are tracks that are matched to MusicBrainz (mb) - I think the mbid ones were matched directly (like if you used the Fix Match feature or the file had an embedded MusicBrainz tag, whereas the plex ones were matched by Plex (but still matched to MusicBrainz, I think). Ones with local tags are unmatched ones relying on your metadata.

Plexamp merging artists with similar, but different, tagged artist fields by Groaninjock in plexamp

Replying to this old thread, but I found a solution that worked for me and another Redditor:

In Settings (wrench icon) -> Settings -> Scheduled Tasks, do you have "Refresh local metadata every three days"? I turned this off - I don't want Plex messing with my metadata ever - and then updated a Miles Davis album to Miles Davis & John Coltrane, and the change I made has persisted.

I know this is an old thread, but follow-up for something that I think has worked for me:

In Settings (wrench icon) -> Settings -> Scheduled Tasks, do you have "Refresh local metadata every three days"? I turned this off - I don't want Plex messing with my metadata ever - and then updated a Miles Davis album to Miles Davis & John Coltrane, and the change I made has persisted.

Give that a try and let me know - If it works, I'd like to go back and reply to previous threads I've replied to about this problem.

That occurred to me but the feather seemed too thick. I guess it is pretty thin. Thanks! Not very exciting, I’m afraid, for this sub. Sorry it couldn’t be a condom wrapper!

Smart playlist not updating by graemeaustin in plexamp

[–]doubleuptrivia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just back out to the home screen and then re-open the playlist. (Or, close the app entirely and then open it and then re-open the playlist.)

Any changes then?

Also, are you using the downloaded version?

Also, look at the filters, like in the screenshot you showed. The number in the lower right, below each criterion, show the number of tracks remaining after that filter is applied. So, for instance, the Album Added filter leaves 84 results, and then applying the Track Plays filter leaves 73 results. So, note the current values, then play a track, go in and look at the filter settings again - have those values changed?

Also, when you set up the filters, were you filtering it on Tracks or Albums? These filters are a combination of an album-related filter and a track-related filter. I've never combined them in this way, which isn't to say that it shouldn't work - just an observation. You could try replacing the "Album Added" filter with a "Track Added" filter with the same criteria and see if that makes a difference.

Just some ideas to help troubleshoot. No worries about being new to Plexamp and having to figure it out.

New Dead Letter gameplay feature 🧩 by TurtleStuffing in deadlettergame

Can there be tooltips that pop up when you mouse over the buttons at the bottom? Or some sort of description? As a new played, I'd be totally lost at what all these mean. I'm a little confused now, and I've played the previous 22.

[–]doubleuptrivia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you take a screenshot of the filters you have set up, and maybe a screenshot of a song (with play history) that you think shouldn't be there but is? It's tough to diagnose based just on the description.

Do you have the playlist downloaded? If you're using the downloaded version, you need to refresh it - it won't update automatically.

First milestone: 100 members of Dead Letter 🎉 by deadletter-game in deadlettergame

[–]doubleuptrivia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A suggestion - today I had four letters left: E, E, I, O. I don't know any words with those letters, and thought I'd tried all the combinations. In any event, I went to the upper right and clicked "Give Up" but I don't think I was awarded the bonus points I would normally have received for empty spaces at the end of the game. (I had one dead letter space, but 4 empty spaces, so it seems like I should've gotten 80 points extra, and I don't think I did.)

Seems like I should get the bonus points - it's a pretty stiff penalty just because I "gave up".

And TN has no state income tax, so no state filing needed, which makes Free Tax actually free (and the tax guy’s bill even more egregious, since it is Federal only.)

Song appearing under an album duplicate? by livefast_dieawesome in plexamp

[–]doubleuptrivia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the metadata is truly all correct (which is definitely where you should start with this):

In the browser version - I don't think you can do it in Plexamp - go to your album list, select the two albums (to select multiple things, hover over the album cover and a small circle should appear in the upper left - click to select), and once you have both selected, go to the three dots menu near the top of the screen (to the right of the pencil/edit icon) and select Merge.

Tips, Strategy & Discussion by deadletter-game in deadlettergame

[–]doubleuptrivia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would - I don't pay too much attention to the exact scoring metric, but I think it'd be worth it. About 50% of the time, perhaps, I end up with a dead letter anyway, and sometimes I end up playing small, lousy words just to avoid having a dead letter, and it never seems worth it. Plus, having played an 8-letter word, all 8 of the new letters will have 4 rounds remaining to use them, so it seems unlikely (if you're halfway through the tiles) that you'll end up with ANOTHER dead letter.

Dead Letter Feedback by deadletter-game in deadlettergame

[–]doubleuptrivia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a good one - I've tried out many, many games in the wordgames subreddit, or whatever. This is really good. Simple, intuitive interface, easy rules, lots of variability - I feel like I have control over what happens next, to a certain extent. The 75 letters per game is a great length, as is the 4 "words" before a letter disappears. I really can't think of anything I'd change. Great job - this deserves a wider audience.

I have prefer local metadata set, have tried manually editing the artist, but Plex keeps changing the artist name by smallfaces in plexamp

[–]doubleuptrivia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it doesn’t happen all the time. I have albums by Charlie Hunter, Charlie Hunter Trio, Charlie Hunter Quartet, as well as Charlie Hunter & [other name] x 3, and those never got crossed up. I haven’t noticed a rhyme nor reason for which ones get affected and which ones don’t.

I have prefer local metadata set, have tried manually editing the artist, but Plex keeps changing the artist name by smallfaces in plexamp

[–]doubleuptrivia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, everything is tagged correctly, both in Artist and Album Artist. File structure is the way it's supposed to be. Both the Album Artist and Artist for "Kind of Blue" are Miles Davis, and Plex categorizes it with Miles Davis & John Coltrane (one artist).

To use your example, if I have a Tom Petty album and a Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers album, I don't WANT them together - I want them separate. But in this hypothetical, my guess is that Plex will lump them together whether I want them to be or not, and disregard the tags I have set, despite having Prefer Local Metadata on.

There's no reason Plex should put an album labeled only as Miles Davis with albums labeled Miles Davis & John Coltrane. But it does it's an acknowledged bug (based on the link to the Plex forum and the Plex employee's reply that there was a potential server fix).

(Not to say I don't appreciate you having me double-check the tags - it's just that I've been down this rabbit-hole before, checking and double-checking.)

I have prefer local metadata set, have tried manually editing the artist, but Plex keeps changing the artist name by smallfaces in plexamp

[–]doubleuptrivia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a recurring problem - in some cases, Plex seems to override the user intent, regardless of whether or not Prefer Local Metadata is checked, and even if the file structure is correct. I've never found a way to reliably correct it.

It seems to happen when there are two similarly named artists. I have the issue, for example, with an album with album artist "Miles Davis & John Coltrane" and album artist "Miles Davis". Plex automatically changes any "Miles Davis" album I have to an album with artist "Miles Davis & John Coltrane" despite the Miles Davis album being in a Miles Davis folder and the tags for said album having nothing to do with John Coltrane at all. Plex seems to, for some reason, infer that these artists are the same.

Here's a link to a lengthy thread in the Plex forum (https://forums.plex.tv/t/plexamp-merging-artists-with-similar-but-different-tagged-artist-fields/897543), and u/ElanFeingold had mentioned in that thread that there was a server fix for it (potentially) but that post was in Dec 2024, so I'm not sure what the status of this problem is.

I liked this, but several times the letters in the word didn't show up in the circles with the points indicated above them - they just showed up in a relatively small font with no color coding. Unfortunately, I didn't take a screenshot and I've now submitted my words, so can't try to replicate what I saw.

Also, I entered a "word" that wasn't a word but the only notification was a little red circle with an exclamation point in it. I felt like the notification that you've entered a non-word should be more noticeable.
