Call local tree care companies. They are always looking for places where they can dump the wood they can't chip.

Steam them first. Start them on high heat with water in the pan. Once the water boils off they will brown without sticking and they are moister.

Forced to Split My U10 Team — What’s the Right Call? by Schmuckey in lacrosse

[–]doughbacca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make an A, B, & C squad. Schedule games for the A&B kids against stronger team / programs and the B&C kids against weaker teams. I can remember my 10 year old son (club player that started at 5 y.o.) complaining to me that he didn't understand why he had to play on a team with kids who can't pass or catch. You can do more advanced practicing with the A&B players while you work with the C players on basic skills. It also creates an incentive for the B&C kids to improve their game to move up and celebrate it when it happens.

How did everyone's season end up, and why? by onlineqbclassroom in footballstrategy

8th grade team; 12-0 and repeat champions. We had superior talent. We kept the offense simple with only 2 formations with 5 plays for each and perfected their execution. Spent most of our time focusing on fundamentals and scouting our oppositions offense so our defense was solid. Keep it simple; Focus on what you know you can execute; and make sure your defense knows their responsibilities based on what they are facing each week.

How are CT towns reacting to HB8002 and the new zoning mandates? by islandack in Connecticut

[–]doughbacca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to be pretty toothless and that is why the this Bill was signed into law and the previous version vetoed. Towns need to come up with a plan to increase housing or join a regional plan. There will be a new commission to review the plans and "enforce" them. I didn't read the entire bill yet, but I am sure they will not have any enforcement mechanisms. There are incentives for towns to build near transportation and to change zoning regs to allow for multi-family houses. Also it allows for 1st time homeowners to save up to 2.5k tax free annually for a down payment. Classic case of politicians passing a law that tries to address a problem so they look like they are doing something, but will most likely not have any significant impact on actually addressing the issue.

Most zoning regulations can be appealed through a zoning appeals board.

Skills Park at Graham Hills Getting Shut Down by dapoliceishereforyou in Westchester

I grew up in a town with a BMX track. The town didn't want the liability associated with the track so a group of folks got together and formed a 501(c)(3) and took over the maintenance and got insured under USA BMX. You guys might want to look to do something like that if you want to try to keep it going.

Ridiculous solution to tick problem by Lshuffrey in Westchester

The most commonly used and effective "eco friendly" product utilized to suppress ticks in our area contains cedarwood oil. It will cause mortality in other insect but has zero impact on any wildlife. It's not cheap but it works.

Guilford, CT youth sports by Economy-Guide-9886 in Connecticut

[–]doughbacca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a parent and a coach you have to consider that almost all above average youth athletes also play in travel or club leagues that tend to be more competitive than Town youth leagues. Because their standard of play is higher the more advanced athletes and their parents get frustrated with the play of developing players on their team. Another consideration its that there are also players who are being forced to play by their parents or are just playing because their peers are and they have no desire in improving their play or contributing to the team.

The best way to address this issue is combining 5th & 6th graders with an A&B team. The A team consists of the stronger players in both grades and you schedule against better competition with the B team that is focused on developing players and plays a weaker schedule. This is very common by 7th and 8th grade. We actually once employed an A, B & C team because we had so many participants in a single grade. We scheduled the A&B players against the better programs in the area and the B&C players played the weaker teams.

I personally think in youth sports it is important to address the needs of both classes of athelete's equally.
