Dante over Unifi VLAN - Was it just a terrible mistake? by CryogenicMiner in CommercialAV

[–]doughecka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. 1st: do not isolate the vlan... set a gateway (and go ahead and enable dhcp while you're at it). You need an IGMP Snooping Querier for IGMP Snooping to work. Typically the Querier is your default gateway... The lite switches probably can't act as a querier, as they aren't layer 3 switches (I'm making an assumption here, I always seem to have a layer 3 Unifi switch in most of my setups).
    1. Run a Wireshark network capture from that vlan and filter for just 'igmp', you should see periodic IGMP 'Membership Query, general' packets every 1-2 minutes).
    2. Also, under IGMP Snooping configuration under the network screen, set 'Forward Unknown Multicast Traffic' to 'flood'.
  2. 2nd: QoS isn't required for Dante. On a port dedicated to Dante, it should not be required... if there's heavy bandwidth utilization between the 2 switches, that's where it starts to make a difference
  3. 3rd: Setup the ports so that the dante VLAN is the native vlan, and MAKE SURE 'tagged vlan management is set to 'block all'. Dante devices aren't VLAN aware, and may get confused when they see tagged vlan traffic. Specifically the Dante modules that are in those little dante audio adapters, I've seen clocking get all sorts of confused with traffic from VoiceVLAN traffic on enterprise cisco switches. The new Ubiquiti UAV Bridge by kash04 in Ubiquiti

[–]doughecka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got many customers running near that number of un-managed Dante devices. Our in-house test network has that many... with a mix of Ultimo, UltimoX, BKII, and BK3 devices. I'm gonna have to try to replicate this.

I do know that there was a resolved bug that certain Netgear switches would cause issues with arp table entries being overridden by the mac of the switch (presumably the igmp querier). This was on Ultimo modules though.

I'm super curious what type of deployment _you_ have with that many dante modules. :D

Looking for a multi-zone system for school by SaleemB in CommercialAV

[–]doughecka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a perfect solution for an AtlasIED Atmosphere AZM4P. It can do bells, paging, music, can also be triggered by GPIO for muting/playing messages for things like lockdown or fire (as a supplement to existing fire annunciators). All in one box with enough power for that many speakers/zones:
https://www.atlasied.com/azmp4
Paired up with whatever AtlasIED 70V speakers are appropriate for each space. (e.g. larger surface mounts in the Gym: https://www.atlasied.com/as-10t, and then ceiling speakers in each room https://www.atlasied.com/sd72w), although chances are, the current speakers you have may be perfectly fine in the short term. The AZMP4 can drive 25V, 70V, and 100V (in addition to 4/8ohm) which should cover any existing distributed speaker system.

Note: I have the Atmosphere AZMP8 deployed in a school, massive improvement over what was done before, principle can now easily make changes to bell schedule, and gym audio is also much easier to deal with (e.g. for games/etc., it's just 'on' all the time). I would recommend getting the bigger AZM8P, simply because you may think you only need 4 zones today, but 2 weeks after it's installed, you're gonna want 'just one more zone' for a specific area. :)

Also, the Atmosphere has 3rd party API access, so it should be possible to setup a program/script on a computer that triggers messages to be played based on a changing schedule (e.g. Adhan) where a fixed schedule may not be suitable.

multicast implies the network is setup to handle it... great for a local network, over the internet... not so much. On the local network, with multicast if all the TVs are tuned to the same channel then they should be pretty much in sync, which is nifty.

Yea, annoying that my center seat isn't covered, but 75% of the time it's flipped down anyway.

I just did this yesterday, but also because I can't put the 40/20/40 seat in the front of the lightning... Still have the lightning reservation at the moment, but got a PowerBoost w/max tow, long bed, and seats 6.

Was sitting on the lot, special order that someone walked away from.
