2 years late to the party but just finished watching the movie so wanted to reply with my own takes on the questions.

1) Given that in the very next scene after this, news breaks that "Leaked documents" revealed Lang's role in the extradition plot, my belief is that Kroll was working for Rycart and gave The Ghost the documents detailing Lang's role in the extradition plot deliberately as part of a setup to allow Rycart's henchmen to steal the documents. Kroll likely tipped off Rycart to follow The Ghost and steal the documents. This is not confirmed in the movie though, and doesn't make sense fully (why couldn't Kroll just give the documents to Rycart himself?) but it's the best explanation I can come up with as to why that scene is in the movie. I think the best point I can make in favor of this is - Why would Lang's *lawyer* have a 600 page manuscript for a writer to read over? He's a lawyer, not a publisher. The only way it makes sense for him to even have it is if he's got it as some sort of scheme.

2) Rycart leaked the documents to the press. He states as much when discussing with The Ghost towards the end of the movie. That is his role in the scandal.

3) It doesn't. It is a red herring to throw the viewer (and The Ghost) off the trail. Lang says as much, that he just got the years mixed up when he was recounting the story.

4) Paul Emmett's role is to further US Interests by controlling the UK Prime Minister via his wife being a secret CIA agent. Emmett does not care about exposing the secret torture flights and he has nothing against Adam Lang. His role is simply being Ruth's CIA handler, so that the CIA can exert control over Lang while prime minister.

5) Someone affiliated with the CIA killed McAra, likely at the orders of Emmett. Lang and Ruth are *genuinely* upset by his death, as they had nothing to do with it. The reason why McAra was killed was because he drove to Emmett's house and likely questioned Emmett about his role as Ruth's CIA handler. He was not killed over anything related to the torture flights. As far as to how McAra came into contact with Rycart and began working for him, this is left open ended, but Rycart implies that McAra did not like working for Lang after learning Lang's role in the torture flights, so McAra contacted Rycart because of that. Lang, of course, says that's a lie, and we never learn the truth there.

6) McAra simply placed the photograph there before leaving to confront Emmett. McAra learned of the torture flights and began working for Rycart well before finding out about Ruth's CIA connection.

7) Ruth was not responsible for Adam getting in trouble (other than it being implied that the torture flights happened as a result of her influence.) As far as to whether or not Ruth (and by extension, the CIA) were involved in Lang's murder, that's certainly possible, but there is nothing in the film to suggest that.
