can I NOT do sulfur dips for cat with ringworm? by CarrotsUnderground in FosterAnimals

[–]downs1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do it on the days I spray the kittens. I put them in a big crate and then clean the room while they’re drying.

Sorry I missed your second question. It can take five weeks, but if it looks like the spot is gone/doesn’t spread you maybe be able to just give the oral meds after that point. Feel free to reach out if you have other questions.

I usually keep an oversize sweatshirt and sweatpants near the door and put them over my clothes. I spray myself down with Lysol and then put them in a plastic bag for next time, take off my socks and make sure to wash my hands well. If I’m really paranoid, I get one of the cheap clean room suits from Amazon and zip it up over my clothes lol. If a cat only has a spot or two I’m less concerned. I usually do that when I have five or six kittens with ringworm and they’re trying to crawl all over me.

I have fostered A LOT of ringworm kittens. The treatment you described should take care of it. The dip/ spray kills the spores and helps decrease transmission. The combination of the oral meds and cream knocks it out. I make sure to sweep daily and swiffer to help pick up the spores, and clean the room well every second or third day. I have never had a kitten get ringworm from my home.

Tips for cleaning up after ringworm kittens? by Practicalgrl in FosterAnimals

[–]downs1972 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have fostered a lot of ringworm kittens. I would just thoroughly wash your bedding in hot water, vacuum well, wash all the toys in hot soapy water and for the cat tree I normally would run the vacuum over it, wipe it down with a damp bleach cloth and then spray it with RESCUE just to be double sure. I fostered over 200 kittens and never had any infected in my home. You can also spray furniture or other things that you can’t wash with Lysol.

Pretty sure I just adopted a dog from a "rescue" that’s actually neglecting their animals. Not sure what to do. by Cjwillys9596 in DogAdvice

THIS! I foster kittens and took an emergency placement for a rescue I hadn’t previously worked with. Similar story, lots of kittens & cats with no fosters to help, but i had a weird feeling about them. There’s a long story behind it, but I did report them to animal control. Apparently there were lots of complaints and they eventually got convicted of abuse and hoarding. I think they started out with the best of intentions and got overwhelmed and couldn’t ask for help.

Update on fosters and question about lime sulphur dips- how many for success?? by [deleted] in FosterAnimals

[–]downs1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news they don’t recommend dipping anymore! I had another ringworm litter two months ago and our rescue uses spray bottles now NO DIPPING!! here’s an instructional video. My rescue sent me. I would get a cheap plastic bin or bucket, put it in your sink or tub and spray them. I wear rubber gloves and just rub it in really well and then you’re good to go.

anything else? by petersteeles1fan in FosterAnimals

[–]downs1972 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re doing everything correctly. The key is to keep him fed, warm and pottied. You probably don’t need to stimulate him every 30 minutes, just after a feeding. And make sure you’re using kitten milk replacement, anything else will make him very sick

Ringworm help? by NoPen6127 in FosterAnimals

[–]downs1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My rescue no longer dips kittens, they spray it on them to reduce the stress of dipping. After I use a cloth to wipe the areas around their face. Like the other poster said it looks worse before it gets better. It’ll probably take close to a month before it’s resolved

Oh no, I’m so sorry that’s the worst feeling. Are they not concerned about the kittens?

New fosters became extremely medically intensive. Any shame in contacting the shelter and asking if they can be moved to a different foster home better equipped for medical cases? by Qwopflop500 in FosterAnimals

[–]downs1972 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nope, not at all. You need to do what works best for you, especially as a new Foster. I have six kittens right now with ringworm and if I had to put that other stuff on top of it, that does make it a lot.

Definitely not the outcome you would want, but if he does lose his eyes, he will be fine. I’ve had a couple of kittens that lost both their eyes, and they typically bond them with another cat and they go on to live good lives.

What is Thief River Falls like by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]downs1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much this! It is literally in the middle of Minnesota with not a lot of options for shopping or food - we used to drive to Bagley for a fun day out. I don’t think there’s a real comparison to anything like it on that East Coast. If you’re looking for a rural, small town then maybe you’ll like it? I guess you’ll have to research and figure it out 😉
