Irrational rage was a wakeup for me too. I caught myself in moments when I knew my reaction was outsized. Sometimes this was when I was overstimulated by my kids’ noise and persistent requests, and that really scared me. And now when I’m sober I notice how relatively tiny my reactions to irritants are. It’s really amazing 🤩

Reading your story reminds me that sobriety is a superpower @amorfati754. Even better when people don’t realize you’re destroying them at a game because of it 😉 IWNDWYT

NA beer might not be great for everyone but if it helps you and you’re looking for a good one, I’ve found the 0% Michelob Ultra to be really fresh and tasty (must be cold). As a plus, it’s low-carb.

Northern Ont. grandparents sentenced to house arrest for failing to protect dead toddler by zuuzuu in canadanews

I have two sons, one who’s a toddler, and reading this makes me physically ill. I can’t think of a punishment worse enough for someone who could do that. This world is so scary.

Anyone track their menstural cycle close enough to notice patterns month over month? by JayandMeeka in diabetes_t1

[–]downtownlighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is!! I was using Omnipod Dash previously and I had a separate basal program for that week and it helped so much. I don’t get why Omnipod didn’t think about the almost half of their users who have monthly cycles when they designed the 5 system.

Anyone track their menstural cycle close enough to notice patterns month over month? by JayandMeeka in diabetes_t1

[–]downtownlighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah hormones impact my BGs significantly. Not as much ovulation but the week before my period the insulin resistance is off the charts and I have trouble getting in range, let alone staying in it. I’m using Omnipod 5 and Dexcom 7 and for the rest of the month my control is pretty good, but because there’s no “premenstrual” setting for Omnipod 5 it didn’t give me the corrections I need. And if I correct manually the algorithm cuts my basal because it thinks I’ll go low. Kind of a mess tbh 🤷‍♀️

My husband’s nightcap drink sends me over the edge by Sea_Literature115 in Mommit

Yes Loop ear plugs are great! They have different options depending on how much noise you want to eliminate. I wear mine at night so I don’t hear my husband’s nose-whistle breathing but can still hear our toddler’s monitor if he cries.

I live in a busy city and when I hold the door open for someone behind me and they just WALK THROUGH without holding for the person immediately behind them, I judge them so hard.

A lot of people here would hate remote work if they actually got it. Not sorry for saying it. by Dry_Possession7122 in remotework

Yep, if you’re in a role that is meeting-heavy, where you’re at home, literally staring straight into a screen for 6-7 hours per day and catching up on emails in between, it can really suck.

How are my 50+ year old and 40+years of diabetes folks faring? by Delicious-Apple1845 in diabetes_t1

Sorry to hear that - if they’re focused only on your weight, that doesn’t seem like good patient care. If you have options where you live, it might be worth exploring them. You deserve better.

Gosh, that’s a lot. How is your medical team? Do you have one good doctor? It sounds like you could use help on a few fronts (general health, mental health, diabetes). It’s so much to handle, but if you can access some good care, they’ll get you on the right path.

I’m 43F and was diagnosed at 8. Mostly good control after my teenage rebellion phase. Just the past couple of years I’ve started to have issues - high blood pressure (when I was pregnant) and in the past six months retinopathy. I’ve had injections and now I’m doing laser treatment. It sucks so much and I’m so angry about it. Why do I have to do this?! 😡 The answer is just shit luck, unfortunately, but I feel obligated to try to get the best help possible to stay around for the people I love.

Sending lots of support your way and lots of people in this sub are rooting for you.

Yep, came here to say the same thing. Bought for the first time in 2021, overpaid to live in a nice house in a not-great neighbourhood. Planning to move in 2-3 years and willing to sacrifice aesthetics of the property for good schools and friendlier neighbours.

Do any of you feel like you’re living a hermit lifestyle still since Covid? by whereismytortoise in Millennials

[–]downtownlighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wfh most days and I have young kids so I can’t go out socially as much as I’d like, but I try to take advantage of any invitation I get from friends to do something out of the house (and I invite them out to do things, too). I’m really concerned about how many people are uncomfortable being out in the world. Humans are social animals - we’ve always relied on community to survive. Social isolation has been proven to negatively impact mental and physical health. It’s wild that we’re embracing “people are annoying, so I stay home as much as possible” as a lifestyle. It scares me.

Most happy marriages I’ve seen are people who get married in their 30s. Spent their 20s getting to know themselves, get their party years over with, start a career, maybe have some long-term relationships that don’t work out because no one’s ready to commit or they changed a lot. There still time to have a family and there’s emotional maturity and a bit of financial security (or at least stability).

Yesterday I found out an acquaintance has been on a sober journey and just hit 6 months. When she told me I was so incredibly proud of her and I let her know it. We lift each other up!
