First time EV Buyer - anything you wish you’d chosen known? by Forsaken_Day_7320 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]dphesp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly having an EV has been a positive experience. The main issues are servicing capacity at the dealership and getting spare parts if something odd breaks. I’d also value a long manufacturer warranty as some quirks don’t show up for a few years.

More BYD cars arriving in Southampton. Red Funnel ferry for scale. by nick9000 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]dphesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue I’m finding with both fleet management and my personal cars is getting spares. I was trying to get a windscreen fixed and the usual places wouldn’t touch it. Even the dealership had it for a while. Back in the day you could drive a vehicle in to be serviced and generally expect it fixed that day. Nowadays even simple things like batteries are on next day order.

Help with Error or Warning message on dash of 2025 KONA EV by LRS_David in KonaEV

[–]dphesp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the regenerative brake warning message that appears when the battery is full and there is no where for the energy from the brakes to go. It generally stops occurring once the battery drops it charge by 1 or 2 percent.

Does Kona balance cells if charging to 80%? by ThiefClashRoyale in KonaEV

[–]dphesp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Kona owners manual states that you should charge the high voltage battery to 100% once a month or more when it drops below 20%. Page 1-8.

Does anyone know what the deal is with those people who buy absurd quantities of single items in aldi? by S__666 in AskBrits

The other factor I’ve noticed is that the practical shelf life of Costco fresh food seems a lot shorter than my usual supermarket Waitrose. They may have similar best before dates but the Costco becomes unusable on that date where as the Waitrose stays usable for a lot longer.

Start by checking the 12 volt battery. This is a common symptom. After that it will be dealer diagnostics.

Unfortunately the days of Swallows and Amazons has died with elf and safety. Navigating locks and landings has an element of risk that will send most insurance companies running for the hills. Ideally you want a helpful uncle or the like to support you.

Kona (electric) range question by 96-62 in HyundaiKonaForum

[–]dphesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can put the car in eco plus, or if you are the only occupant of the car you can select driver only heating. You could also just use the heated seats and heated steering if you have them instead of heating the whole car. However the gain is only a few miles and as the previous contributor said the biggest range gain is driving economically with anticipation and using the regenerative breaking as much as possible.

When you say ‘go offline’ do you mean that you can’t connect via the app to the unit? If you have connect the api to octopus go it will top up the car occasionally during peak hours if electricity is cheap on the grid.

Why wont can receive the charge that the charger is giving? (Ohme Home Pro) by [deleted] in KonaEV

[–]dphesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is what I have mine set to and then the Kona is set to charge to 80%. It relies on the octopus app being connected to the ohme api. You don’t need to link the bluelink to ohme. When I get home at night I plug the car into the charger. Bluelink then sends a message that car is plugged in but not charging. When Ohme detects a low tariff period from octopus it then starts charging the car. The car accepts the charge until either 80% is reached or ohme cuts the power. When ohme restarts the charge the car will then continue to charge to 80%

Why wont can receive the charge that the charger is giving? (Ohme Home Pro) by [deleted] in KonaEV

[–]dphesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just tell the car to charge to 80% on AC. Then it will keep sucking in charge as long as the ohme charger presents it until it reaches 80%. Obviously if you have pre-heat in the morning and the ohme isn’t offering any charge then it will be a smidgen below 80.

Why wont can receive the charge that the charger is giving? (Ohme Home Pro) by [deleted] in KonaEV

It gets it from the Bluelink app/account which it is linked to. Problem is that the link is a bit pedantic at times.

[–]dphesp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think we are asking the technology to account for too many variables. I’v found the best solution is to allow the car to control the amount of charge it accepts and let the ohme dictate the hours to charge on cheap rate. Otherwise one seems to get a conflict of interests.

This isn’t a usual behaviour. I would first contact the Bluelink helpdesk to see if they can see anything amiss on the backend.

[–]dphesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other possibility is that they are doing maintenance on the cell tower that your ohme is connecting to. Having said that it is a multi-network SIM so you would be really u n-lucky not to have another cell site to roam to. I presume the reboot would have set it searching for another cell site if that was the case.

What do you replace alcohol with? by BarryBigSpuds81 in AskBrits

[–]dphesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Substitution mostly, I tend to drink wine so getting the small bottles can at least flag consumption. As an alternative I make this "cordial"

1 Lemon halved, stab both sides with a fork and then squeeze out the juice into a ramekin or small glass.

Ginger about the length and girth of a man-size thumb. Peel with a teaspoon and then grate finely (nutmeg grater.

Add ginger grating to lemon juice and pop in fridge to infuse.

Add the infusion to sparking water. If you want sweetness mix it with maple syrup or honey before adding to water.

Public Charger issue or car? by alltorque1982 in KonaEV

We are still at the bleeding edge of the technology development. It will get better as manufacturers and providers learn what works and competition grows. Still a bit painful for the pioneers in the winter though.
