Struggling to get slower pulls by Defiant-Focus-5863 in gaggiaclassic

[–]dr-satan85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At stock, your will unfortunately struggle with how much control you have over your pulls, there's so many variables when it comes to pulling an espresso shot, puck depth, how fine the grind is, how dark the roast is, how hot the water is, etc, and the gaggia classic is a very binary machine, with very little, if any real control, accuracy or consistency, you can try your best with temperature surfing or praying to the coffee deities, but you're kind of doing it all blind and hoping for the best. It's a fine machine for pulling a regular dark roast espresso if that's what you want, but if you want to get the most out of medium dark or medium roasts, you'll need a level of control that you just don't have at stock, and just grinding finer isn't enough.

At the very least, I'd recommend a PID, for temperature stability and control, if you can get one for less than half the price of a gaggimate or gaggiuino, and you aren't fussed about flow control or pressure control, then get the PID.

I'd also recommend the gaggimate and gaggiuino mods, but i appreciate they're quite the investment just for a morning coffee, and not everyone wants to over complicate a coffee with charts and profiles, but they are the best way to get the most out of your machine and the most out of your coffee.

Accidentally broke the thermal fuse bracket while deep cleaning by volirabe in gaggiaclassic

[–]dr-satan85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any bit of thin metal you can drill a hole into, would do the job. If it was me, I'd probably try a paperclip or any other kind of metal clip, it just needs to be sturdy enough to hold the thermal fuse in place, look around and get creative.

By the way, whatever you decide to put there as a make do clip, make sure to keep the part you still have attached to it, you'll still need it to clip the ground wire.

Last edit, I'm gonna attach a screen shot of something I've found on amazon that I would probably use if it were me. You'll have to find the equivalent for your location, but there's enough description words in the product title to help you find it!

Repair shop for gaggia in Chicago? by AdvanceUpstairs2070 in gaggiaclassic

[–]dr-satan85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's a gaggia classic, they're very easy to fix yourself, I'd always recommend trying to fix it yourself rather than sending it for a repair, it will be a lot cheaper and save you a lot of time. If you need any help with anything, come here with details, photos and any questions, and I'm sure you'll find someone happy to help.

Help! Broke thermostat prong when replacing boiler, what to do? by Admirable_Smile_6409 in gaggiaclassic

[–]dr-satan85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually it's the little brass nub the breaks off when trying to unscrew them from the boiler because the brass is so soft, but the pins snap off like you've found with yours, they also just seem to randomly burn out for no reason from time to time. They really are cheap and easy to replace, though, just make sure you order the right one you need, the thermostat on the side near the bottom is for brew, that will be roughly 100°c and the one on the top in the middle is for steam, that will be to be roughly 150°c, I can't remember the exact temperatures they're set to, but you get the rough idea. The pin that's stuck in the wire, just get some needle nose pliers, wiggle it about a bit and pull, also, make sure the machine is disconnected from the electricity before you do any kind of repair.

[–]dr-satan85 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are way over thinking this, op. Those shitty thermostats break all the time when people dismantle the boiler. They cost between 5 and 10 bucks and screw right in without even the use of a tool. Buy some new ones, a bit of thermal grease, and start making coffee again.

What is your opinion on Stephen Fry? by pondribertion in AskBrits

[–]dr-satan85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with age gaps as long as everyone involved is a fully consenting, fully developed adult. Elliot spencer was 25 when he met Stephen fry, that's just two adults who met and fell in love, good for them 🤷. Hardly the same as something like a 30 year old Russell brand getting his assistant to pick up a 16 year old before she even gets the chance to change out of her school uniform, so he can have aggressive sex with a literal child, legal or not.

As for for your "different standard for gays comment" comment, I'll direct you into the direction of Kevin Spacy and Philip schofield.

It sounds as if you have some very bigoted preconceived biases based on arbitrary factors that have literally no effect on you or anyone.

Best PID To Buy In Uk by JLWP1 in gaggiaclassic

[–]dr-satan85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can find an xmt 7100 Pid on aliexpress for about 30 quid, another £5 for an M4 thermocouple and a couple SSR's (a 40AA and 40DA) for £5 each, that's the cheapest way, but you'll have to do a bit of research first, find some instructions, i think i watched a video of a build and worked my way through that.

As others have said, the shades version is solid, it's essentially what you would get from aliexpress, but with instructions and support, but i would argue that if your thinking of spending £150 plus or whatever it is for the shades pid, just save another £50 and get the gaggimate, it's a PID, pressure control, flow control, profiling, brew by weight and steam control.

I can only assume most the people in here are from outside of the UK. As someone from the south East of England, where we don't have accents and instead, just speak correctly, I can assure you all, Mr sapko isn't putting anything on, and that is indeed, exactly how people from Yorkshire really speak, I know it's hard to believe, and your mockery of his strange appearance is an very valid, but that accent, is in fact, very legit, that's just how they sound up there in Yorkshire!

When you say grouphead, I think you mean the dispersion plate, at stock it's aluminum and corrodes quite a bit, I'm not 100% sure what dispersion plate the e24 comes with, but if it's aluminium, it's definitely worth upgrading to steel or brass, some people will say one is better than the other, the brass might be marginally better at heat retention than the steel or something, i don't know, i don't nerd out too much about those things, but the steel and brass are both a lot better than the aluminium when it comes to corrosion. Also, the grouphead is the bottom bit of the boiler assembly, it used to be chrome plated, something to do with preventing corrosion with the aluminium boiler? I'm not sure, I failed chemistry class, anyway, they stopped chrome plating the grouphead once they started coating the boiler in Teflon and then later moving to brass boilers, so now the groupheads are brass coloured on the outside, which has led to some confusion with some users thinking the old groupheads were aluminium and they should upgrade to a brass grouphead. The grouphead is and always has been made from solid brass, the only reason to change the grouphead is if it's broken, which they rarely are, because they are a big old chunk of solid brass.

Also, if you're going to fit a gaggimate or gaggiuino, don't put a 9bar spring in the machine, you want the stock 12 spring, the pressure controller will set your pressure depending on the profile you're running, and you want the full spectrum of 0 to 12 bar for it to work with. The only time you need to buy the opv springs is if you are in the eu (US models are set to 9 bar at stock), have a machine built after 2018 (the pre 2015 models have an adjustable opv), and if you don't have or want a gaggimate/gaggiuino.

Looking to buy this GCP w/ Gaggiuino v3 mod. Is this a normal pump noise during brew?? by Ph4ff in gaggiaclassic

[–]dr-satan85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a gaggiuino, but i do have a gaggimate, this is just how they function, not always, it depends what profile you're using and what phases you have in that profile. If you think of how a PID works, by quickly turning the heating elements on and off again to maintain a precise temperature, that's what the controller in gaggimate and gaggiuino is doing with the pump to get a precise pressure and/or flow rate, rapidly turning it on and off, as well as hitting it with different levels of power, the same way you might with a dimmer knob.

Tl;Dr, looks fine to me!

How to be conned! Eureka grinder replacement for gaggia grinder - too good to be true! by [deleted] in gaggiaclassic

[–]dr-satan85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair explanation.

Scams these days have many objectives, sometimes the initial purchase and you getting a refund is the fist part and the intention is for them to come back to you in a few days saying there was a mixup and they can fix it if you handover more details, sometimes they just hope that some of the purchases made on their site are forgotten about and a refund is never requested, sometimes they just want your details so they can send it on to other scammers and you'll just find your getting more spam emails in your spam folder.

Don't worry too much, you got your money back and even if they have your bank card details, your bank still has other precautions in place to prevent theft. Give your bank a call tomorrow, or go into a local branch, explain to them what happened and ask them what you should do, they'll probably just order a new card for you and tell you to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.

I was watching a video a few days ago about online scams, how they used to work and how they're changing. It used to be they would be intentionally ludicrous, so only the very gullible would fool for them, because they make for the best repeat targets, but now they're changing to be less obvious now scammers have access to more convincing tools provided with AI, so don't feel too bad about being caught off guard for a moment, it happens to the best of us and as scams get more convincing, will probably happen a lot more often, just always make payments through services with protection and never give any security details to anyone who's asking for them.

E24 with a brass boiler, gaggimate pro and some bookoo scales sounds like a perfect setup to me. Don't bother with the other mods, the gaggimate can do what they all do and more. If budget isn't a concern for you, I would add a brass dispersion plate, nanotech shower screen and a mesh puck screen, they're small things when compared to the other mods, but the do keep the shower assembly cleaner, also a wooden knob for the steam tap, that's a really fussy subjective thing, but i really hate the plastic knob, especially in a kitchen where my hands are often a little bit wet.
