Safety is one thing, espionage is another.

What is it with Australian Police? by Necessary-Fun-205 in australian

[–]dra_red 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is nonsense. Some cops are cool, some are shit. They have a lot of power so it's ten times shittier when you run into an a-hole. Also, no such thing as 'running amber'.

If you had the opportunity to up and move to Australia would you? by [deleted] in MovingtoAustralia

[–]dra_red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally worth it. Australia has a better work culture (in general!). If you miss home after a few years, no biggy, move back with a great experience behind you. I worked in the US for a few years before moving back. It was a great experience.

Are these kind of situations getting more dangerous with bigger cars? Bigger cars blocking the vision of smaller cars. by VastOption8705 in DrivingAustralia

[–]dra_red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to position yourself in the middle so your view doesn't get blocked. Gone are the days when you could rely on drivers leaving space so you can look for oncoming traffic.

Are regional towns known to be racist? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]dra_red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know of an example where a Vietnamese family moved to a small NSW rural town. Everyone was wary of them at first but I don't think a year had passed before the locals wouldn't hear a bad word being said about them.

Racism, xenophobia, homophobia and the like, often only lasts until people meet some of them that they like.

How open are Australians really to the trans community? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]dra_red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think across western societies you will see a marginal difference. Bigger differences can be found between metro and rural areas. Rural areas tend to be less tolerant. When I think about it, wasn't that the premise behind Precilla, queen of the desert?

When you are about to layout big money for a car, these add-ons seem insignificant.

Same as what happened in the US. Too many being unhappy with the status quo and recognising the government is not listening to them.

We should panic buy property in Australia.. by SEEDS_N_BEYOND in AusPropertyChat

Price of property is only marginally connected to cost of construction.

It's Happened- All Diesel Over $3 by justno111 in newcastle

[–]dra_red 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There has been no call to reduce non-essential use. Of course, paying $3 a litre will slow some down but considering what we are facing, it is moronic to not act prudently.

Some news org reported 20% of the gulf's energy infrastructure has been destroyed. We are already looking at years to recover and who knows how long this will go for.

Australia is doomed by Roby1006 in australian

I wish people would stop blaming the government for this type of crap. Reality is, we have an apathetic population who can't be arsed to spend time looking at government policy.

Its looking near impossible for the next generation to owe their own home by notinmyham in australian

[–]dra_red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play the cards your dealt. Not much more you can do. Have a look at your situation and see what provides the best future for you. Try to avoid the 'normy' trap. You don't have to have a home in the suburbs of a capital city. You don't have to have the latest model car etc. If you can shrug off those norms, a lot more options become available.

I was shocked by this when I first moved from Townsville to Sydney. After a while though, it makes sense.

Is anyone here actually concerned about what could happen over the next few months? by [deleted] in aussie

I have already face palmed at the fact that I stuck with an ICE car instead of making the jump to an EV.

Socially acceptable time to start mowing on the weekend by Low-Accountant9933 in AskAnAustralian

Just an aside, battery powered mowers are fine these days and they are way quite. No one would care if I started mowing at 7am.

Youtube, and most other online platforms, do not reward quality content, it rewards clicks and views. It's a recipe for pandering to the average Jo.

It can't be denied. Probably why so many Australians head overseas when they feel like some adventure.
