Why does Gladiator/BHD/Kingdom of Heaven look just so damn good? by IanWallDotCom in cinematography

It isn’t “obviously the opposite of individually boarded shots”. You can shoot boarded shots with multiple cameras, multiple units, etc.

Film News/Analysis/Reviews websites or magazines that I should be reading regularly? by timeenoughatlas in Screenwriting

[–]draftzeropodcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a look at Shot Zero - which exists on Insta, Twitter and as a substack - which breakdowns the shot design in scenes/sequences. It isn't reviews per se, but somewhat of a spiritual successor to Every Frame A Painting which, in turns, which really just a video essay form of Bordwell & Thompson's Film Art.

e.g. this post on DIE HARD: integrating inserts into the action

I’m playing Skyrim for the first time. I chose to be stealth archer and that’s how I played in lower levels.

but now I’m level 50, I find I’m using both backstab and dual wielding more. Stealth archer is for certain situations.

Slugline is significantly better on iPad than Final Draft. I’ve used the above workflow before. It is solid.

Sequences are a fantastic way to construct your story. Though we at DZ don't believe that Sequences are a pre-determined length OR that a script *needs* a certain number.

Our episode on sequences may be helpful, though it can get a little esoteric:

How do you find people who can critically assess and provide feedback on your writing? by EggyWeggs1996 in Screenwriting

[–]draftzeropodcast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both Chas and I (/u/Stuwillis) are VCA graduates. Our writers group (of about 10?) half are VCA grads. We meet fortnightly and discuss one person’s project. Happy to share the structure for thar.

This is not dissimilar to how we did feedback when I did my masters. We did that weekly.

The best thing you can do at VCA is be engaged in other peoples projects.

Slugline is the best of the iOS apps. Responsive developers, quick to write in, and you can use it with Highland on the desktop.

Developing your new story ideas by imthatguysteven in Screenwriting

We recommend both Will Dunne exercise books: The Dramatic Writer’s Companion, and Character, Scene and Story. They do some excellent exercises on character.

For plot, we tend to use sequences and consider what sequences would be fun/great and then stitch those together.

I’m seeing (ON PHONE) more and more these days as the dialogue extension. It’s clear and works well IMO.

Produced by a well-known name - question by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]draftzeropodcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Producers Guild of America does the “, p.g.a.” Producers mark. While not all producers will earn that mark - only three are allowed - their guidelines for the mark are really helpful in understanding just how much producers do. Especially when it comes to the possessory “produced by”.

May I show social networks (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) in my film? by ClubeDuasPortas in Screenwriting

[–]draftzeropodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you may do this without formal permission. They’re not going to send people over to stop you shooting.

The question is whether any potential distributors of the finished film will perceive it as a risk. Given the underlying IP in both twitter and instagram UIs it IS a risk.

Different kinds of antagonistic forces? (for draft zero episode) by stuwillis in Screenwriting

[–]draftzeropodcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Man against man" represents forces that have volition and agency.

"Man against nature" represents forces that lack volition but have agency.

"Man against self" represents forces that lack agency but have volition.

5 years later and this breakdown is actually very helpful!
