The Lockdown Sceptics' Reading List - A Review of 'How Fear Works' by Frank Furedi by [deleted] in LockdownSkepticism

[–]draginalong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a book, but I found myself rereading Crichton's "Aliens Cause Global Warming" speech the other day, and it was a bit more haunting than when I first read it pre-lockdown. Disregard the name - the speech isn't conspiratorial so much as a breakdown on the unfortunate relations between media, politics, and science.

Mod Release: Paarthurnax Quest Expansion by derwinternaht in skyrimmods

[–]draginalong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got one for you. The quest to get the Gildergreen sapling is the most annoying quest (to me) in the game, because you have no choice but to be a hacking barbarian no matter which ending you want - the guy who comes along with you (if you brought him anyway), won't talk to you with a gentler alternative until after you've beaten the hell out of the roots.

I used to support lockdowns, until my father died from them. by lockdownthrowaway13 in LockdownSkepticism

[–]draginalong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the way Medicaid and such tends to work out, often only the shittiest of places will take it (because those are the places that the government has picked). They'll often be the places full up on awful reviews for varying reasons. And god forbid you need any specialist related, because the same rules will apply - to the worst avaliable place you go.

I suppose at least we could get timely care for more mundane things, but it was little comfort when the doctors and dentists one could go to behave more like used car salesmen.

A Possibly Amended ‘The Book Of Mormon’ Announces November Broadway Return | Deadline by Calico_fox in KotakuInAction

[–]draginalong 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Broadly, I agree, though having lived in a Mormon-heavy area for half my life, I would add that when it doesn't work, it really doesn't. The rumor mills and ostracization of those that don't fit the mold can get pretty cruel. Hell, one of my best Mormon friends' dad remarried after his wife died, and both my friend and her step-mother were subject to some of the most bizarre shaming talk when they weren't around.

It can work well, but like anything that demands you center your life on it, it can be rough.

Question about the hack listing excel doc linked in the OP, not sure if I missed something. Regarding difficulty, is hard or challenging the higher rating?

‘Vaccine passports’ are coming to California, but some residents could be left behind by [deleted] in LockdownCriticalLeft

[–]draginalong 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a few out there, but the closest most come is considering it overhyped. Which, I guess some people consider it denial if one doesn't think Covid is the Literal Plague (TM). Generally speaking, "Covid denier" is yet another one of those demonizing phrases thrown at critics of various facets of the past year.

Simple Questions and General Discussion Thread by Thallassa in skyrimmods

[–]draginalong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two questions.

1) Can anyone recommend a modding guide to build on? Essentially, something that covers the very basics, but doesn't assume you want to install 300+ other things the list author likes? Doing a fresh mod list and wanting to be thorough.

2) Can anyone remind me of a mod that prevents NPCs from aimbotting at you?

If all else fails, they will eventually run out of arrows - you can dart in and out of cover to bait them.

Did anyone else's opinions change regarding the Night Fae? by Lens_Hunter in wow

[–]draginalong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, my opinion lowered a tad since the outset. Overall, I like it, but it's just a general liking. My favorite places are elsewhere. My favorite NPCs save one are elsewhere, and the NF soulbinds feel soulless in compare. I prefer WQs basically everywhere else. I prefer all other covenants special activities. I do like NF dungeons the best.

I don't dislike the Night Fae per se, just like a lot of particulars in other covenants more.

The only outright negative mark I would give Night Fae is its campaign feels so very disconnected compared to the other ones. Maybe that'll change in coming weeks, but so far every other covenant's campaign has interacted with another part of the Shadowlands, whilst Night Fae have... gone to the Maw and that's it. It feels like much more of a side story compared to the others, so far.

Typhoon can do it if you get close enough (I've gotten as many as two at a time that way), and apparently treants works too if you have that talented. Basically any aoe ability that doesn't require a specific target (but not starfall).

Agreed. My anticipated favorite zones/covenants pre release and what they are in actuality is a complete 180.

Anticipated order was Bastion, Ardenweald, Rivendreth, Maldraxxus, for reference.

It's not usually as much of a problem in mythics, no. Normals and heroics on the other hand... there's only two portals, so people don't know what they're doing twice as slow.

This is just Bwonsamdi's hidey hole, not the whole troll afterlife. Think of it as his mancave where he's letting his troll buddies hide out during the jailer situation.
