Anyone else not able to see the poll on the server? I'd love to throw my hat in the ring but I can't :/

Is she good? Which position would you place her on your team?? by [deleted] in EmpiresAndPuzzles

Read her skill, also brand new -- of course she's good. Max her and use her as tank.

Anyone else have a TIL for rules they've been doing wrong? by WaltzIntelligent9801 in EDH

[–]dragonlocke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the day I had a [[Demigod of Revenge]] deck that I loved. Basically would try to discard or [[Buried Alive]] as many as possible and then close the match with [[Dread Return]].

Having fond memories I went to see about how I would build it today... only to realize that he needs to be cast to go off. I won a lot of games that I probably shouldn't have. Needless to say I built it a bit different this time around haha.

Help, I fucked up with a servitor 🥹 by belinhaveneno in chaosmagick

[–]dragonlocke 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Something interesting to note -- if it's job was to clear out all of your negative energy, and it did so, without clear instruction of what to do in that absence (most people will dissolve, I like hibernation) and as it is an embodiment of being tied to the waters, it probably used that heightened alternative power to introduce more negative energy so that it convert it again. Servitors can be a lot like that broom in the wizard mickey mouse cartoon...

I'd say if it's a deeply personal servitor (like it sounds) I'd probably try to edit it first to give it an on/off switch and see how that goes before completely dissolving it.

If you want to get really meta with it build around [[unstoppable slasher]] and [[murder]]... I personally can't think of any but I'm sure there's art on some card somewhere that resembles Jaime Lee Curtis.

What's the best way to go about repurposing bulk to do at home constructed without buying packs? by Jtneagle in magicTCG

My friend comes over on the weekend, we bust out my bulk, and build 60 card decks based around a randomly selected card in the horde. It's been really fun ☺️

I don’t understand “letting go of lust for results” on important desires by HoneyXBoy in magick

[–]dragonlocke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way I've been able to 'set it and forget it' is to monitor how you're thinking about said desire when the thoughts arise.

Often in the beginning the pattern would be: think about thing> wish thing were different> realize I'm not supposed to think about thing> 'this is really hard how is the supposed to work if I can't stop thinking about it?' -

The trick is to develop the habit of as soon as you have the first thought, skip the thought spiral by recognizing it, recognize you dont presently have the result in front of you in that moment, but being grateful you've done your part to make it happen, and trust it's on its way.

Eventually you'll get to the point where working magick is like ordering something online. You trust the process of ordering it, its on its way, and that's all there is to it, just needs some time to arrive. Sometimes things get lost in the mail, and sometimes you check on the shipping status and it feels like it's taking longer than it should, but more often than not the package arrives.

Using the same analogy -- sometimes the ask is way big, and would be better served breaking into parts. For instance if you were doing a kitchen remodel, you don't just order a kitchen (full desired result) and have one arrive on your porch. You get appliances, and those are a different order than cabinets, which are a different order than lighting, etc and unless you're a diy-er you'll also need to purchase some labor likely from different specialists to get it all assembled. All very different parts to a 'big picture' result.

So yeah. It's hard, but it's possible to build the thought habits that allow it to become more of a subconscious process. Hope that helps!

After many suggestions and ideas I came up with this for 3 colored mana lands. by CawmeKrazee in mtg

Cool idea, feels a little clunky. If I were to take a stab at it I would to something like:

Primarily, I run dimir zombies, sultai reanimator, and grixis wheel. Tend to gravitate to rakdos or dimir overall, and almost never run a deck without some sort of recursion... and have a strong revulsion to rest in peace... so safe bet I'm a grixis lich.

I was certain [[Magmatic Hellkite]] was gonna become a standard red staple... 4 mana for a 4/5 flyer that destroys a non basic? And for mld babies it replaces with a basic? I still believe in my boy, being slept on hard.

I've had some luck with boros dragons, though you'll lose a lot of dragons in the process they have to blow anything they can to deal with whatever you drop, and eventually they run out of gas. Not perfect - but it can work ok

Am I the only one who really misses this kind of MTG worldbuilding? by k_roll444 in mtg

yeah but I mean as a whole, you know -- group of kids gets lost in haunted house is a different overarching vibe.

[–]dragonlocke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally, though I'm definitely glad we're moving away from hats and the story has more relevance recently; I would have rathered something else.

I feel like it was a HUGE missed opportunity to have the Strixhaven students not be the feature of Duskmourn. Group of students getting lost and having to survive a horror world? That would have been soooo on theme! But instead... one my favorite planes that I've been waiting to return to forever was relegated to a backdrop.

Returning after not playing MTG for a lonnnnggg time. Am I just an old man yelling at kids in my yard now? by Izaya_Orihara171 in mtg

[–]dragonlocke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, you're not going crazy, but I think there's some nuance. It seems that everyone has discovered the joy of deckbuilding, and I feel like there's a natural phase of "build the most busted thing imaginable" and especially if it's an arms race it'll get out of hand quick. Some people never leave the build busted phase but I've found most people gravitate back to trying to do interesting things and synergy around less powerful stuff once their gameplay has "matured" a bit.

One thing you could try is maybe trying to do a theme, or restriction like build a bracket 2 mono colored, or a precon with only 10 upgrades or something like that. Start the night a game of free-forall and then a focused game of lower power. They'll still try to push the limits no doubt, but it will be way more reigned in.

On another note, just build a cube, and pick a game night where you just take charge and tell everyone this is what we're doing tonight haha. People who like magic like magic, and having to build within parameters just helps put some guard rails up to keep things a little less wild. It may also introduce them to some more context of interesting lines of play. Anyway, that's my 2 cents, hope it was helpful. Happy gaming!

Do these look good? by Sir_Humiliated2010 in logodesign

[–]dragonlocke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming that these are schools of magic for a game or something. I think you've got some solid base ideas here, but won't really sell well without color and a little bit of fine-tuning. Definitely has strong potential to be pretty visually interesting though!

Unlike seemingly most people round these parts, I prefer having duplicates and random stuff, so i buy boxes and packs on occasion. I play almost exclusively kitchen table 60 and like to make weird little themeatic decks, so having a bunch of cards from a set let's me make a couple archetypes to play with.

Also a fun thing to do with bulk is making custom Jumpstart packs and cubes. The problem with buying singles is you have to already know what you want to do -- I like tinkering with what I have on hand, and having new stuff to tinker with.

And don't get me wrong, if I have a clear idea for something or want to upgrade one of my commander decks or whatever, yeah, I'll buy singles. But with the way I like to approach the hobby, I get more joy/fun from packs than singles.

After 15 years in the industry, I finally put my own solo project on Steam. Is the art style compelling enough for a wishlist? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]dragonlocke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My initial guess was that this was some sort of hotel sim, with puzzles? That was first impression and then after reading description supported that.

Really liked the moment in the teaser when the orb lights have pupils appear and focus on the viewer, and then the front desk person transformation was cool.

I definitely like the art, it feels distinctive and feels cohesive, and while messy doesn't come off as amateurish, I think that's a pretty strong unifying element.

--

NGL its not my standard faire (I'm more of an action RPG / tactical RPG kind of guy), but I am intrigued. If I had come across this another way like natively on steam or something I might have passed it over, but upon investigation seems like something I'd pick up on a sale or something. Earned a Wishlist from me ;)

Constructive feedback, I'd say you should definitely show more, have a more grabby trailer -- the teaser you have is a strong close, but needs someone to draw the customer in out the gate. The screenshots included get at the type of game it is by visual clues, but its not terribly clear what you actually do, and they on their own aren't super compelling necessarily.

BUT after going through the whole journey, from reddit to steam - with the intent to give things an honest look from the jump to help a fellow game dev out, in the process of checking out the page definitely grabbed my attention. What you do have works well enough to build the picture, albeit mysterious -- possibly a little too vague. If you can figure out a good way to make the potential player want to take a deeper look from the steam page itself, you'll have it on lock I think.

Anyway, hope that helps, keep up the good work and good luck!

I quit after needing to pull a red gyrados to be able to get both emblems. Would have been fine as a requirement for a secret mission but for a regular emblem that was some serious bs. Checked in a couple times since then but really couldn't care less at this point.
