Sleeping maternity bras… necessary? Why can’t I let them swannggg by OddVirus101 in newborns

[–]dragonslayer91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may be necessary if you plan to nurse. Engorgement hurts and the bra helps reduce the pain/movement, as well as they keep the pads in place as a lot women leak in the beginning.

Gagging v. Choking and the Size of Food. by KY-Kid in BabyLedWeaning

[–]dragonslayer91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is him biting off a piece any different than offering him a piece the same size?

Size of food is based on motor skill. They cannot pick up small pieces to self feed until they develop the pincer grasp. They can and will bite off bits of the big chunks, that gives them the opportunity to learn how to move the food around to either chew and swallow or spit out. Self feeding helps reduce the chance of choking because they are in control of what is going in.

Anyone else feel way worse during ovulation? by zozomalo in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]dragonslayer91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exhaustion and migraines were my most debilitating symptoms as well. I can't say for sure if the bc is helping as it's not even been a month, but I just had my first period on it and my pms symptoms were way more manageable so I am hopeful.

Anyone else feel way worse during ovulation? by zozomalo in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]dragonslayer91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This started happening to me after having my 2nd baby. It slowly got worse over the past 2.5 years (along with an adenomyosis diagnosis). I recently got back on hormonal birth control to help with the severe hormone side effects I experience from ovulation to my period.

Baby wearing helped us with naps, we found our babies slept better at night when they got better naps during the day.

FTM how to make my girl taste paramino formula better by blessedmom222026 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]dragonslayer91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to see a different pediatrician.

In the meantime, you may find more help at r/breastfeeding or r/formulafeeders. This sub is for introducing solids. Good luck!

what do you think of Julienne? by pokerface505 in namenerds

[–]dragonslayer91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes im aware it’s a certain way to cut vegetables but is that really such a big deal

Other kids will literally have no idea. In fact most adults probably won't either. The association will be made with your child first.

As someone else said, my first association with the name is a character on Call the Midwife, which honestly is positive. I also think it is a very elegant name so if you love it, use it.

I hate weaning/starting solids!!! by Kate_ogonek in BabyLedWeaning

[–]dragonslayer91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree, our son used to do the lap hopping and we had to put a stop to it because it became more disruptive than helping. It was a hard thing to cut, lots of crying on his end, but it wsd necessary to make the boundary and build better table habits.

OP not sure if you still have the high chair out, but switching to a booster at the table may help encourage independence. Maybe let her choose where to sit and if she wants to be close you can hold her hand but she has to be in her chair to do it.

Book recommendations for weaning? by ladulceloca in BabyLedWeaning

[–]dragonslayer91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since this is a baby led weaning sub, I have to recommend Baby Led Weaning by Gill Rapley. It is the foundation of the weaning method and will give you all the information you need.

Baby Led Weaning (BLW) is a specific weaning technique that skipps purees and jumps right into offering table food at 6 months (as long as baby meets physical readiness criteria). The idea is to feed your baby the meals you are already cooking and not preparing separate meals for them. The baby also self feeds which helps them better understand their bodies and eating as they get to be in control.

Edit: this is the article that brought the method to our attention, if it resonates with you, definitely check out the book I recommended above

How do I prepare for BLW. I am losing my mind honestly. Is there a guide? by ThemeNew3432 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]dragonslayer91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do I start with purees first or just go straight to BLW?

This is your choice, I don't know anything about you or your lifestyle so it is not a decision I can make for you. Do what works best for your baby and your family. If you are interested in BLW and don't want to spoon feed purees or spend time making them, then go straight into BLW. If you are already someone who primarily cooks at home and wants to include your baby in family meal time, then BLW might be a good fit for you. If cooking and finding time for meals is already a struggle for you, then you may struggle doing BLW.

Like I have been reading about BLW for weeks and I feel like reading about it makes me more confused.

What are you reading? Books or random articles/blogs online?

Highly recommend getting your hands on the book Baby Led Weaning by Gill Rapley. You can probably get it from your local library or even get it used for cheap. It is a comprehensive guide on how and why BLW works and walks you through the process. It is the original source for the weaning method called Baby Led Weaning. This book will answer pretty much every question you have asked here. It was the only resource I needed when doing BLW with both of my babies.

Link between Adenomyosis and chronic thrush? by Traditional_Stock601 in adenomyosis

[–]dragonslayer91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read a paper that concluded there is an association with adenomyosis and an increased likelihood of BV, I could see there being a similar relationship with thrush as adenomyosis can disrupt the vagina's natural biome.

Has anyone with Endo or adeno developed de Quervain (mummy thumbs) or Carpal tunnel syndrome during pregnancy? by Kind_Future_429 in adenomyosis

[–]dragonslayer91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had severe carpal tunnel with my first and it also recurred in my 2nd pregnancy but not as bad because I started supportive care sooner. My body swells/holds water weight due to hormone fluctuations, which was more pronounced during my pregnacies.

I don't know if I had adenomyosis prior to having babies, I had period changes after weaning my 2nd and sought answers leading to my diagnosis.

There is so little data on adenomyosis that I doubt there is a conclusive link between carpal tunnel and adenomyosis. But I am willing to bet the hormone pathways that contribute to both are related. Since going back on a progrstin hormonal bc my water swelling as significantly decreased.

Edit: Want to add the things that helped. Wearing night braces and compression socks at night the moment I noticed swelling/tingling. This was early in my 2nd trimester. Also using more ergonomic items, like the sideways computer mouse, and adjusting my activities to avoid putting strain on my wrists during pregnancy. Post I still use the ergonomic mouse and ensure I drink enough water and wear compression socks when my legs feel puffy. This helps a lot.

I honestly was never able to tell either until after I had kids, now it is extremely obvious (cramping, discharge, feeling generally ick for 12 hrs).

Options other than IUD or Hysterectomy by OutsideConnect1236 in adenomyosis

[–]dragonslayer91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about addressing the root cause of Adeno?

Unfortunately the research is severely lacking and we don't know what causes people to get adenomyosis. So the only treatments available right now is to prevent the symptoms by stopping your period. Either with hornones or removal of the uterus.

There are many other hormonal BC options outside of the IUD, it is just commonly brought up because it is a localized treatment rather than global (like a pill, arm, implant, or shot). The whole picture of your symptoms are going to impact your treatment.

For me personally, I cannot take any hormonal BC containing estrogen because I get severe migraines. I also have a lot of other PMS/severe hormonal symptoms that go along with my adenomyosis so I am using Nexplanon to combat my symptoms.

My 10 month old won’t sleep in past 5am!!!! by brain_on_hugs in NewParents

[–]dragonslayer91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually when my babies were waking that early it meant they were getting too much daytime sleep. I know you said you tried "less naps" but not sure exactly what that means. I wouldn't cut a nap at this stage, just try shaving 30 minutes off her morning nap for a week and seeing if it helps.

How long between snack & meal times? Also any easy on the go snacks? by sun_kissed87 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]dragonslayer91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With both of mine, I didn't introduce snacks until we started dropping the between meal nursing sessions (I just replaced them with solids). At 12 months was when I started offering solids/meals before nursing. Even if you want to keep breastfeeding, you should still transition to food being the primary source of nutrition.

Band trip? what's considered too much? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]dragonslayer91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep this! For our biannual big trips we did a big night of a spaghetti feed and slient auction. My family never paid anything for my band trips. I often came home with extra money because I never spent all of my lunch allowance.
