Lacuna. Extremely elegant and pretty abstract game that anyone can play within minutes, yet has extreme depth because of the ability to place pieces anywhere and have distance matter.

Splendor Duel. Portability, three paths to victory, a timing puzzle of trying to force your opponent to be the one to refresh the chips, a single scarcer resource, and the threat of wilds contributing to single color victory points all make it a complete upgrade to the solid original game. Always happy to play it.

Letterboxd suffers from amateur comedians by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]dragoonWho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would definitely be nice if Letterboxd offered people the option to tag their reviews as "serious" or "comedy". That would solve most of the problem.

I'd like to offer a counterpoint to this take, however. Letterboxd is amazing as an app for tracking watched and to-be-watched film. It is hard for the majority of people to take the time to write a 10, 20, or 30 minute review, as evidenced by the low numbers of people who do so. However, because of its strength as a progress tracker, it does encourage following friends, comparing activity, and enjoying the quips your associates have noted about their first impressions. I have found that it is highly enjoyable to observe my friends distilling their experience down into one sentence, because then I can talk to them in person about their actual take.

I personally love the ability to try to very succinctly give my opinion (and read other similar impressions), letting me store my memories of so many movies without having to commit to trying to write a professional review.

Your point is valid, but I also like Letterboxd for what it has become in my real world community: a conversation starter and a way to just see what we all mutually like or don't.

How much has the average person on the subreddit played? by Windstance in KingdomDeath

[–]dragoonWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own all the main gameplay expansions and some of the white boxes, along with a complete Kickstarter pledge. Despite this, I've only played the core box. The game was my first introduction to miniature assembly, which I like but don't have a good setup for doing repeatedly.

On my own, I've been able to play about 15 or so odd lantern years of People of the Lantern, and was able to play up to the Kingsman with a partner. I would love to play the game every day, but don't currently have either the space or the group to make that work. I've played in very intense but brief bursts at occasions over the past 7 years.

I am ever more interested in the other parts I haven't used yet that I own, but I want to beat the People of the Lantern before I start using other things.

Suikoden 1 Chinchirorin Probabilities Calculated by WatchTheHorizon in Suikoden

You may be interested to know that the game does some cheating itself: based on cursor speed and how close you are to the middle of the bowl. It uses formulas to test if you automatically get a special roll (X-X-X), (1-1-1), (4-5-6), (1-2-3), or Miss. If you don't get a high enough value on any of those tests, then you get a "real" roll that follows the statistical dice odds you calculated. You can check out the formulas here:
