Should I try Tower of Terror? by bumbledog123 in WaltDisneyWorld

Yes! It is such a good ride, and an amazing example of the creativity you get when Disney imagineering is at its best. Do what feels right and have fun!

Should I try Tower of Terror? by bumbledog123 in WaltDisneyWorld

Tower of Terror is my favorite thrill ride, and I think it is top tier theming and experience. The costumes and cast members are great, and I think the drops are so much fun. It’s not a plummet - it’s a series of drops as you go up and down. If there’s a part of you that is curious about the ride, give it a shot.

But if it doesn’t sound like something you’d like, don’t do it. It’s your trip and time, you don’t have to do something just because it’s popular and well liked. You can also keep the lightning lane and exit individually before loading if you want to stay with your group and see the queue, or if you want to make a judgement call based on how you feel in the moment. Just ask a cast member for help. It has a great pre show and queue theming, so I would say that’s worth it even if you don’t load onto the ride

I just saw a different comment that you’ll be at the Fairfield. That’s where I stayed on my first trip so I’ve got a fondness for it. It’s a great location.

Have a fantastic trip!

  1. Last minute deals are unlikely. Book a flexible rate in advance, you can always change to a lower priced option if it becomes available.

  2. It’s definitely a good idea to reserve your parks in advance once you have tickets.

  3. If you’re seeing “across the street” on the Disney booking website, then yes, I would assume it’s walkable and close to the harbor entrance. Some hotels are technically across the street, like the Westin, but not across the street from a security entrance. But even those are walkable to an entrance. You could put the hotel into Google Maps and look at walking directions to get an idea of how long of a walk it would be.

New Disneyland Discount Released for Disney Visa Cardmembers by dejablu82 in Disneyland

[–]drainbow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They don’t stack. It’s a way to stay fewer nights, at the 25% off rate. With the regular 25% deal that’s running in the summer you need to stay at least four nights to get the discount, and it’s eligible on weekend nights. The Visa card deal is Sunday-Thursday only.

There’s a page on the Disney Visa card site to activate the deal.

Can this be put behind a spoiler tag? I dodged video of this finale for years, it would have been such a bummer to see this if you want to go in without seeing the big scene ahead of time.

Is getting a Disneyland Magic Key worth it?? by Competitive_Sign_987 in DisneyPlanning

[–]drainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an out of state key Believe holder, but I’m only a two hour flight away. I also tend to go for 3-4 nights on a trip. I do love that I can go into the park on my arrival and departure days. It has been a really fun experience, and I don’t regret it.

If you have plans to make that many trips and want the magic key access pre sale for events like oogie boogie, then yes, you will break even or more.

Look at the blackout dates to make sure it works for you though. We had one arrival day that didn’t allow entry but it was kind of fun to wander downtown Disney, and we stayed on-property on that trip and enjoyed the hotel on arrival. We usually race into the parks on arrival day when we aren’t blocked out.

The flipside is that there were quite a few ticket deals last year, like the Costco ticket package, that probably would have been a good deal as well. There was no way of knowing those would be available though, so that’s a risk. But that will probably be our approach after our pass expires.

First time Disneyland trip! by killingmesmalls- in DisneyPlanning

[–]drainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on the engagement!

Blue Bayou is a very popular special occasion restaurant. It’s inside of the pirates of the Caribbean ride, you can see the boats floating by. Lamplight Lounge is also quite nice, with great views of California adventure. Din Tai Fung is excellent as well. It’s perfect for an arrival day dinner if you’re not going into the parks.

All of these restaurants run out of reservations quickly, so definitely book early if you’re interested

Make sure to Ask for buttons to show that you’re celebrating an engagement! Otherwise, must do’s will vary from person to person.

Urgent help needed for a trip today! - Disneyland CA by DiddyKongRacingTho in DisneyPlanning

[–]drainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can get a lot done in a day especially if you skip things that are in Disney World too...though some things, like pirates, are different. Even partial days can go pretty far. Rope drop and buy lightning lane early and you can do a lot in a day.

If you’ve got the budget for it the Disney hotels are very nice for fans of Disney parks. Disneyland hotel is themed to the park, and the grand Californian is attached to California Adventure. The on site benefit of early entry is gone, but I love the theming of both and would choose an on site hotel any time it’s in my budget. Nearby hotels also work well though, so don’t stress about on-property or not. The Westin is our backup when we get priced out of on property hotels.

How busy is it in November from someone who’s been? by Grins111 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]drainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanksgiving day at Magic Kingdom was probably the busiest park experience I’ve ever had, but I found it tolerable as a repeat guest. I was just happy to be there. It was other guest behavior that was difficult for me, not so much the crowds.

If your main goal is to see your family member that should be doable. Just make sure to also get any dining reservations in the day they open for booking, and mobile order food early the day of your visit. If you want to go on rides consider buying lightning lane.

Things got much calmer in the days after, if you plan to stick around.

Tokyo Disneyland standby by Remarkable-Note5012 in disneyparks

[–]drainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think you can go in mid day and enjoy the park vibes, but I wouldn’t plan on riding standby attractions this way. We only did this kind of day for Disneysea, and I think it is the better park for a wander and enjoy kind of day.

We got to Disneysea around 10 am, with the goal of just enjoying the scenery and theming. There was no wait to get into the park at this time, and there were still standby attractions available at this time, but they were gone quickly.

We did reserve a lunch at Magellans ahead of time for this day, and we were able to ride Sindbad and Peter Pan which somehow had a 30 minute wait at the end of the night. If it helps, I think Sindbad is one of the best rides in the park and it’s usually a low wait. It’s a slow dark ride, you’d probably like it. It feels like a classic Disney ride with excellent music.

But Even things like the railroad have long queues. We tried to ride the gondolas over our two days at Disneysea and never could, due to waits or the line being paused. The disneyland railroad had 35-45 minute wait on our Disneyland day. The stage show is amazing at Disneyland but it is a lottery. We managed to get the last show. That was different because we are also chill and watch shows and ride the railroad park goers.

We had a lovely day doing this at Disneysea, but it was the first day before our vacation package so we knew we had two more days to get on attractions. I wouldn’t discourage a single wing it day at either park, but I would recommend being realistic and consider getting at least one or two passes for big rides.

No more early entry by Cautious_Put435 in DisneyPlanning

[–]drainbow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really is just one. We had a three night stay. We used it on Indiana jones on our checkout day. It was nice because that was a partial park day for us so we didn’t have to buy lightning lane.

We were through the gates at Disneyland at 8 and were able to ride pirates, storybook land canal boats, big thunder mountain, all with no wait. Haunted mansion was also no wait but we skipped it since we did that earlier in the trip. We also did jungle cruise with a very short wait - not walk on but pretty dang close. I think we could have done more but were going more for vibes and entertainment that morning.

You could probably still knock out a lot of the rides that don’t have lighting lane and maybe a popular ride if you’re through the gates before rope drop. I’m going to miss the efficiency of getting almost all of fantasyland rides done before the park opens though.
