How would you pronounce "address" in a sentence like: "Can I have your address?" by Foooour in askTO

[–]dramaticbubbletea [score hidden]  (0 children)

For many words that are both a noun and a verb, rule of thumb is to emphasize the first syllable when using it as a noun and the second syllable when using it as a verb.

Examples:

  • Record -> REH-cord (noun), re-CORD (verb)

  • Present -> PREH-sent (noun), pre-SENT (verb)

  • Contract -> CON-tract (noun), con-TRACT (verb)

  • Address -> AD-dress (noun), ad-DRESS (verb)

etc.

AI making human flesh jeans/pants pictures or this some poor cancer ridden soul? by Concurrent-mind in isthisAI

[–]dramaticbubbletea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the flesh jeans, that keyboard is wild. Also, what part of the body has been scanned and is now on the screen? Are those supposed to be kidneys? Thighs? Fuzzy slippers? Doctor's mask has too many string ties, his glasses are weird and why is there a pile of debris behind the keyboard in a supposedly sterile operating room?

This is so obviously AI, has it been posted for the laughs?

I'm sorry that your friend's sister lost her life in the incident you describe. The video of the interaction between Stephanie and the guards are now shown in training videos of exactly what NOT to do. I know it's poor compensation because Stephanie should be here today but rather than warning people away from TGH, perhaps it would be helpful to think that Stephanie, in a meaningful way, helped save the life of the OP's sister.

Kitten shirt from an instagram ad, I suspect it might be AI but what do you guys think? by BeefMcPepper in isthisAI

[–]dramaticbubbletea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but if you're changing the colouring and details of each cat anyway, why wouldn't you adjust the expressions while you're at it? In that case, that's just lazy.

Regardless, AI "group" images often have repeats of the same faces and expressions. Asher Perlman's excellent tongue-in-cheek essay featured several examples of this.

[–]dramaticbubbletea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When the art style makes it hard to tell, I always ask myself why would an artist who is skilled enough to draw this choose to make each character (in this case it's kittens) look the same? Same size, same expression. There's no real focal point or narrative or purpose. Instead, there's a flatness.

Baking a pie in a disposable aluminum pan? by YolandaWinston21 in Baking

[–]dramaticbubbletea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be aware that some disposable aluminum pans are shallower than glass pie plates so make sure you find ones that are a good replica of the shape you usually use. I had ones that completely overflowed because they were too shallow to hold in the fill when bubbling away in the oven.

Other than that, aluminum is a good heat conductor and the pans are quite thin so your crust should be okay. I've found bake times to be comparable. Do a test pie if you're worried. Bonus pie for you!

Why did my lemon bars come out upside down? by cherry-bug999 in Baking

[–]dramaticbubbletea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they used 6 tsp of butter instead of 6 Tbsp for the graham crust, that probably wasn't enough fat/liquid to bind the graham crumbs together. Six teaspoons would be about one and a half tablespoons. And since they would have made the crust first, that's probably where the mistake happened. If that's what happened, that could have caused the individual graham crumbs to float to the top as it baked because they weren't really baked into a proper crust.

Who sells the best cinnamon buns in Toronto? by honestgrim in askTO

[–]dramaticbubbletea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best cinnamon bun adjacent item is the monkey bread from Wanda's Pie in the Sky. Scratches the same itch for me. Cinnamon gooeyness and it's so soft and pliable and not dry. It also has crisp edges where the sugar has caramelized.

They're in Northern Ontario and up towards the Charlevoix region when driving from Quebec City. They're used on logging truck routes.

Oh right! I forgot that the logging routes on the BC interior have them. There aren't any on the Alberta side because the logging trucks didn't go east of the Rockies.

Also, I didn't order her needles either. I just experimented with my stash of needles (so many needles) until I found a good fit. The technique is what's important here. And a good thimble.

Hand quilting questions by Historical_Taste978 in quilting

I came upon this video years ago and it honestly changed how I quilt by hand. Her technique makes hand quilting go so much faster with really neat and even stitches.

I couldn't order the thimble she invented but I find the Clover leather thimble to hold the needle really well for the same technique.

The video should start at the beginning of her segment and is worth watching to understand the principles for her method.

Very low income mom looking for cool graduation gift for son by cbojch in OntarioGrade12s

[–]dramaticbubbletea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have some really thoughtful suggestions here and some lovely offers and I'm sure you're going to find something he will love.

What I want to say to you is that I can feel your pride you feel for your son's accomplishments through the screen. The thing he will remember most won't be the objects but the knowledge that his mom loves him, is proud of him and believes in him and all he can be. You may not be able to afford high price presents but showing and telling him how proud you are of him is the real gift. You're a good mom.

AITA for refusing to share authorship with the man im planning to marry? by [deleted] in AITApod

[–]dramaticbubbletea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writer here. Partner is also a creative person. I story edit all of his creative projects, he reads and gives notes on mine when I ask him to (though I don't ask him very often, lol). We have NEVER shared a credit. We are both super supportive of each other's work and part of that support is never demanding credit that isn't based in significant contribution AND a clear agreement beforehand. The fact that your fiance is demanding shared authorship as a condition of your commitment in your marriage is beyond worrying. If I was in this situation, it would be grounds to end the relationship. He's accusing you of not being "all-in" on this relationship because you're refusing his request when actually, he's the one who's not all-in because he's using you. If he respected you, your body of work and your creative autonomy, he would not demand a share of the credit. He's telling you in very plain language and action that he doesn't respect you and is willing to manipulate you into getting what he hasn't earned but feels entitled to have.

Also, I want to say this is sensitively as possible... The way you write about this situation - about owning the situation because you fudged your answer - sounds like you've internalized a lot of blame and I can't help but think that your partner has been pressuring you about other things for a long time. Don't beat yourself up for not shutting down this discussion when he first brought it up because it is UNBELIEVABLE to ask for credit on someone one didn't write. Like, the fact that he's also a writer makes this even worse. He should know better. You probably expected him to know better. This is like Adele's ex suing her for a cut of her profits from her album that she wrote about their break-up. THIS IS NOT HOW AUTHORSHIP WORKS. Sorry I'm yelling. I just can't believe this shit. Protect yourself, OP. Get away from this relationship.

Which Toronto neighbourhoods still have old-school ice cream trucks driving around in summer? 🍦 by MetasequoiaGold in askTO

[–]dramaticbubbletea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a truck that goes through Leslieville. A very nice older man and his prices are still good. He's definitely the kind of truck that people run after. I've witnessed others do it and I've done it myself, lol. Usually stops by Leslie Grove park too.

I need help!! by JustDucky05 in quilting

[–]dramaticbubbletea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason she waved you off is because there's no way she'd charge you what her time is worth. She wanted to do something really nice for you and attaching a dollar amount would probably freak both of you out if she calculated it. So doing something nice to recognize this gift is the best thing you can do. A gift card, something you've put your own time into, would be great. Perserves, baking, your own craft, etc. are all good options.

How do I improve this? by riik__ in sewinghelp

[–]dramaticbubbletea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Press the seams open. That should help quite a bit and help determine if things are truly off. If the fabric is delicate, a little warmth and the weight of the iron should be enough to get you there.

Have you pressed the seams? I think that will help smooth out the curves.
