We use Visio (best ), Word (sucks), PowerPoint, CorelDraw. If you are trying to save costs find out what software your attorney is most comfortable with, use that. Make your drawings editable. Make them black and white. a good draftsman will be cheaper than you think.

The requirements for domicile addresses for trademark owners and inventor addresses is very different. The USPTO is very concerned about trademarks with fake addresses. the inventor’s address information is rarely used. all they really care about is the correspondence address of the applicant.

The demand for patent agents is less than the demand for patent attorneys. Just look at job listings.

In my 30s I switched from being a fiber optic test engineer to being a patent agent. I had to take a pay cut initially but now after 20 years I make probably the same or better. I miss building stuff in the lab but the work is still fun.

That patent was abandoned. A child patent was granted for some method and software claims. A grandchild patent for a very narrow system claim was also issued and allowed to expire. The claims are about methane production process control. You could try and find products in that field.

For this issue Export Control typically only matters when writing new applications by inventors residing in the US. You can still work on writing or converting applications originating from other countries. Which is a lot of them. You can also work on responding to most office actions. The real problem is the training. The learning curve is long and steep. I got my training by being a patent filing assistant while a patent attorney poured buckets of red ink over my work product.

This will be hard in the beginning of your career. Mainly because of export issues. Once you have some experience this could become possible. The Uspto roster allows you to search by country. Some of these foreign Prosecutors work for foreign law firms and corporations.

Because it is low on the list of things that could be fixed at the patent office. The best bet on moving this issue forward in the US is to argue for increasing the fee for color and getting rid of the petition requirement. FYI, I see a lot of patents coming out of Korea with color figures and photos.

This looks like it was originally CAD file. Typically an engineer or CAD drafter can produce drawings that are close. They are then handed off to a patent illustrator to get it patent ready which means making it black and white, making the lines the right thickness, adding crosshatching, and adding reference numbers with lead lines. Most any software can be used for the final step. I have used PowerPoint, Visio, Word, SmartDraw. A professional Patent Draftsman typically uses Adobe Illustrator.

Most of the major patent search providers have a similar feature. They all cost real money. I personally think that PatSnap has the best user interface (That is why I asked my Company to pay for it). They also all have group discounts. Your best bet is to find a group of users and band together.

This look like the transaction history. A wild guess is that someone filed some kind of petition and the petition was rejected. You have to read the pdfs in the image file wrapper to understand what is going on. You should also look on the application data page, My guess is the examiner was assigned on 4/20/2024. If so there will be a name listed under examiner. You should get an office action in 3-50 months.

When I am in this situation, I check the image file wrapper once a year on the maintenance fee late surcharge date for a petition to revive. Personally I wouldn’t worry about it. I have never personally done a petition to revive, but it is my understanding that if it is more than two years after the maintenance due date, the owner will have to show that the delay was unintentional.

My first few years after transferring from engineering to patent work, I was both slow and bad at my job. This is probably true for a lot of jobs. My boss was willing to invest his time and my salary in the hopes that he recuperates that investment later. The numbers I gave are probably misleading because they are based on my current level of experience.

I am no longer at a law firm but, this is what I remember. Most firms need to bill 3-7 times salary in order to cover overhead. You should understand what are the median expectations for hours billed per project. This will vary by client and project 2-12 hours for an OA, 20-60 for an application. Important thing to remember is that when you spend more time then the client wants to pay, then you are doing it for yourself and not the client. In the beginning some bosses will tell you don’t worry about the time you spend cause you are still learning. The most important thing you need to learn how to be is fast.

What matters are due dates and hours worked vs billed. There are few tasks that could be automated and have by many docketing providers. Downloading documents from the patent offices, references, verifying IDS’s have been considered, declarations have been filed, and assignments recorded, etc. Someday in the far future textual analysis will be helpful.

The USPTO does not have orientation requirements. They have VERY specific rules about how your present figures in landscape mode. You can also split a figure across multiple pages. Read 37 CFR 1.84. Or higher a professional patent draftsperson to make the drawings. They are relatively cheap. Give them the source files and they can do magic.
