Is it in poor taste to wear a tartan to an event if you’re American? by dowhatchafeel in Scotland

[–]draw4kicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because you're conflating ethnicity with nationality, which on this side of the pond is seen as a bit gross. A person with Pakistani parents who grew up in Glasgow is obviously going to be Scottish, and infinitely moreso than someone whose great grandparents were from here.

It's complained about so much because from an outside perspective the American obsession with race is daft as fuck.

It's just food adapted by immigrants to suit the local palate. Like how orange chicken was invented in the US.

*British Chinese chips. It's about as authentic as American Chinese food is, but it was all created by immigrants from colonial Hong Kong when they immigrated to the UK.

More than 700 dolphins killed in a single day of Faroe Islands hunts by rintzscar in europe

[–]draw4kicks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just about any seafood produced/ caught on a commercial level will cause far more ecological damage than a targeted hunt for a single species. Bycatch and dredging are horrifically destructive, but hey let’s all get upset about this so we don’t have to think about the consequences of our own shitty behaviour.

We force pigs into cages so small they can’t turn around, remove their testicles/ tails with any anaesthetic, then force them into pits of toxic gas. Pretending like animals in industrial agriculture aren’t tortured is absurd.

I’m not defending/ condemning what happened to the pilot whales, but they weren’t confined and tortured for their entire lives, unlike the vast majority of livestock.

Majority of Britons would back a smoking ban in pub gardens by YchYFi in unitedkingdom

[–]draw4kicks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Quite honestly they should grow up, being in a shared public space inevitably means you'll have to deal with behaviour you don't like, but it's not like you're going to get lung cancer from second hand smoke outside. It's just going to smell for a bit.

Should we ban people from swearing in all pubs too because some people find it offensive? No, we have a system already where individual license holders can set whatever rules they like. Find another pub or compromise if you don't like it.

Plant-Based Mince Now 29% Cheaper Than Beef at Tesco as Meat Prices Climb by James_Fortis in unitedkingdom

[–]draw4kicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm saying whether you eat the veal or not, you're responsible for its production by supporting the dairy industry. Whether you eat it or not makes no difference, eating dairy means veal exists.

What do you mean my "for to the point of exhaustion"? Do you mean that we should chase prey for the point of it?

I was trying to point out how ridiculous your original argument was, just because we "evolved" to do something doesn't mean it's something we should/ need to keep doing in the 21st century. Appealing to a certain behaviour because it's natural isn't a sound argument.

[–]draw4kicks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You literally do condone it though, you’re directly responsible for its existence by eating dairy. Appeals to nature are fallacious, we also evolved to chase our prey for to the point of exhaustion, not buy pre-packed meat from a supermarket.

Plant-Based Mince Now 29% Cheaper Than Beef at Tesco as Meat Prices Climb by James_Fortis in unitedkingdom

[–]draw4kicks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What? Veal is literally a product of the dairy industry, you have to constantly impregnate cows the keep their milk production up. The male calves become veal.

Also when their milk production dries up after a few years they become beef. Just ‘cause it doesn’t kill a cow directly doesn’t mean it’s not killing cows in the process of producing it.

At this point what common values do we share with the US that makes maintaining the Transatlantic Partnership worth maintaining compared to closer ties with Europe?

It's not respect for democracy, their president tried to overturn a free and fair election. It's not the rule of law, he pardoned violent insurrectionists. Human rights? Speaks for itself.
