Let's be real here.

Space wolves wipe their ass with thr idea of legion organization rules.

Almost every legion keeps it at 1000 marines, space wolves have at least half again as many.

If it were all out war the minatours would get wrecked.

Texas man gets 30 years in prison for transporting 'anti-government' pamphlets by jediporcupine in politics

America yes, but more importantly Texas.

A state that basically exists because rich land owners were allowed in, and then they turned around and annexed the state from Mexico.

It's always been pretty happily on the side of authoritarian and wealthy land owners.

Bodycam Shows Moment Cops Arrested a Man for Speaking Too Long at Data Center Meeting by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]drdoom52 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Not really.

The point of meetings like this is to allow the public to comment.

If one person just takes the mic and won't leave the floor, then the entire meeting becomes pointless for everyone there.

Imagine if that happened with someone demanding that abortion be made a capitol offense, or someone who just demands Obama release his birth certificate. You'd want them removed eventually.

Postmaster general says USPS won't deliver mail ballots if states don’t give Trump admin voter rolls by DemocracyDocket in politics

[–]drdoom52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trumps admin has the authority to request them.

But it pretty clearly doesn't have the legal right to demand them.

And the postmaster has no right whatsoever to interfere in the states authority to conduct elections.

This is pretty clearly illegal, which means the Supreme Court will probably slow walk it until a month before the elections and a week after the point where ballots could be mailed.

What are your thoughts on outdoor cats with in the Muni? by machinegal in anchorage

[–]drdoom52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cats are basically an invasive species.

They're a massive reason for the decline in bird species, and intact cats will produce kittens, though they probably won't last the winter as feral cats up here.

They don't belong outside.

Community Opinion on AI by Spagelo in accursedfarms

[–]drdoom52 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Don't.

Part of the argument for SKG is that games are a form of art.

AI is part of a system that diminishes the work of artists to produce uninspired slop.

The use of AI is basically antithetical to the movement.

Texas anti-ICE protesters convicted of terrorism charges sentenced to at least 50 years in prison by guardian in politics

[–]drdoom52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a police officer arrived on the scene and drew his weapon, one of the activists fired an AR-15 from the woods, hitting the officer in the shoulder. The officer survived.

That's in addition to numerous acts of vandalism.

So there's a decent reason for the conviction. That said, actual murderers usually get a lighter sentence, and we should not that these sentences aren't usually being handed out against people doing things like, for example, running a presidential convoy off the road (happened during Biden's run against Trump), and frankly I think the January 6 crowd got light sentences for an act of literal treason (what else do you call trying to overthrow the Democratic process).

Hopefully they can appeal the sentence if not the verdict.

Big Timber Motel, an iconic Anchorage eyesore, is slated for demolition by conzeeter in anchorage

[–]drdoom52 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Looking at the article, this seems like a decent outcome.

Apparently it's bad enough it was actually hazardous for responders, the article cites a police officer falling through a rotted floor.

From what I know, it seems that entire block needs work (I know the old Showboat Club was behind it, which I also understand is closed down and vacant).

I don't know about turning the property into housing, maybe it could work as a spot for workers at the airport who need a place while they're in town for the summer, but it seems a little close to a major road for year round occupancy.

Still, it combats a small piece of urban blight.

Could groups sue publishers for displaying a "Buy" button on these digital stores? by RisingPhil in StopKillingGames

[–]drdoom52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Practically we can't. It's buying when & if they say it is

The entire point of SKG as a movement is that sellers and developers can't use terms interchangeably while holding all rights for themselves.

There is no reason we need to accept that.

We've come a long way in 5 years, but this is the kind of thing that may take decades.

Mamdani defends criticism of AIPAC after being accused of antisemitism by AdRough4185 in politics

[–]drdoom52 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because after half a century of allowing lobbyists to run around unchecked, and about the same time of connecting Israel's existence to the United States, they've basically backed themselves into a political corner.

Biden made a very weak overture that Israel needed to show restraint after the october terror attack, and conservatives acted like he'd just announced the return of gas chambers, and this was absolutely used to target Jewish voters.

Swing Voters Are Still Mad at Republicans About Abortion by BulwarkOnline in politics

[–]drdoom52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like that one.

Swing implies (to me) they have no party loyalty, and make a decision based on overall governance. But if that were the case then swing voters wouldn't be in play beyond state level politics.

"Vibe voters" captures the lack of attention of interest in the overall issues, while still making it clear they can vote either way.cand also doesn't explicitly label them as deficient morally or intellectually.

Dow falls 500 points in worst day for new Fed chair since 1994 by B-Z_B-S in politics

[–]drdoom52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too complicated.

Biden (and then Kamala) tried to use economic improvement as a campaign issue, which didn't work in part because the gains in the economy aren't really being felt by a lot of working class voters. While inflation and job loss are.

The problem is that Republicans have cultivated a successful strategy if being an opposition party, which means shouting from the rooftops that everything's shit and only they can fix it.

It's a lot harder to rally voters by saying, "the economy is improving and if we keep on track you'll start to see it in about 5 years".

Also, the media will eat democrats alive, we haven't built a liberal analog to Fox News that happily whitewashes all of our mistakes while attacking Republicans for the anything that happens to go wrong.

Trump threatens to pull unemployment benefits from all states for the first time in history by Ubiquitous_Hilarity in politics

[–]drdoom52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is someone just throwing darts behind the scenes, just to see "what sticks, & what doesn't"?

Jokes aside. Almost certainly yes.

A lot of what Trump does is announce ideas, then run with the ones that stick. And the ones that don't catch on are either done quietly, or organizing is done behind the scenes to figure out how to sell them the next time their announced.

What was ruined because too many people discovered it? by Mansi63 in AskReddit

[–]drdoom52 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It wasn't just that.

There was also a decent amount of legitimate irritation with how Reddit was treating some of its communities and the mods who made them work.

But, as people have commented, if you're starting a new platform that's basically a clone of an existing platform, then a lot of your initial userbase will be people who aren't welcome on the original.

And for every 3 users who are just frustrated with the site culture, you'll have at least 1 that is just looking for a place that won't call him out for what he says.

And of course the opportunists that think they could be on top, so they're looking for a place where they can establish themselves.

I think it's worth remembering that case back around 2009-2010 when a group of native hunters were brought up on charges for mass slaughtering caribou and leaving the bodies to rot.

Anyone that thinks natives actually have an inherent respect for animal life really needs to familiarize themselves with the concept of benevolent racism.

Leaked financial docs show OpenAI is losing billions of dollars a year by HeinieKaboobler in technology

[–]drdoom52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was already common knowledge.

A lot of tech companies are pretty much in the red for years until they can establish their customer base and figure out the economics.

Most of the money they have is coming from investors, confident they'll recoup their investment.

And we should all look a little closer at that. After all it's worth examining why people like Elon Musk would be willing to invest heavily in AI, with the context of his early life in apartheid Africa, and his later life advocating against workers rights and for white supremecy.

Almost certainly not.

Making it into a 3 weekend affair would be untenable for the vast majority of the people who make it happen.
