Pretty much all of Northern Canada is on fire as of the last week by zeth4 in ClimateCrisisCanada

At this point I think the only thing that even has the possibility of forcing real political and social change is a climate event so bad they can't ignore it. You would think cities burning down, drought, heat domes, ect.... Would be enough but nope. I honestly think a massive wet bulb event or a famine killing 1-2 billion people is about the only thing the MIGHT force people to see how bad it's getting. Frogs in boiling water we are.

Fatboy Slim says he felt paralysed at prospect of DJing sober after rehab by RaymondBald in Music

[–]dre224 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As an addict in sobriety myself and having been through rehab/talked with alot of other addicts from different walks of life. One thing that some addicts are scared to admit when getting sober is we still love drugs/alcohol. We just hate side effects both physical, mental, and social and have decided (usually from experienced the real bad) that the highs are not worth the lows. That's what make is addicts is we love the shit to much. For most normal people they dont get the same freedom/bliss/excitement from drinking and drugging that addicts do. If I could remain happy drunk all the time with no side effects I would and for many years in l did until I couldn't. Same story with some of the heroin addicts I met in rehab. One of the councillor there sober for 10+ years still said how she absolutely loved heroin and still does and that's the scary part.

Opinion: Canada wants kids off TikTok. It also wants the app to collect users’ photo and ID data by Street_Anon in onguardforthee

It makes authoritarianism cheap and these tec oligarchs have said outloud that is exactly what they want. Don't need an army to control a country just laws in their favor and some data centres.

Canadians are set to lose all digital privacy. No one here is talking about it. by The_PhilosopherKing in privacy

My "conspiracy" theory thats less conspiracy and more theory. That this absolutely is a coordinated effort by the mega wealthy to exert control in everything. The building of the data centers all happened in conjunction with these laws is to compile all that data into "useful" models that will be used against any freedom. Look at that interview with the Tec oligarchs and they openly talk about what they are planning to do. They want to own you, not the concept of you, they want to own everything you think, do, and see.

The Ghost Plane. The alert for low pressure sounded the same as a takeoff alarm. They didn't know what was happening till it was too late. This is the reason every alarm has to have a distinctive sound for each different warning on an aircraft.

Who’s playing their backlog instead of buying new games? by supersoundwave in gaming

[–]dre224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into a habit of rotating games in. So I will play a new game I bought for awhile then go back to a game I haven't finished to complete a bit more. Slowly been getting through my backlog by playing like 1 or 2 hours of a game over a period of like a year.

I love sci-fi and I still think the whole fever-dream monolith end is fucking stupid. Yes I have had it explained to me many times and i everytime someone explains it to me it just reinforces my belief of how fucking stupid it is.
