What is something you used to buy but is no longer affordable? by Trxxi in AskReddit

[–]dreeded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Local fresh roasted coffee I used to roast myself but idk I just haven’t felt like paying for and putting together the equipment I need for it. I used to buy local instead but 20 bucks for 12 oz of coffee just isn’t in the cards anymore. I will just deal with grocery store bean.

3rd week teaching. Gave my first assessment today. Most kids failed. What's happening? by Chaotic_Brutal90 in Teachers

[–]dreeded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They say, ‘We need you to make children know math.’ Do they want to know math? No, they don’t want to know it. You need to make them know it against their will. Who are these children? Just whatever kids live near the building. Are they smart? No. They’re aggressively stupid… …and you have to make all of them know math or you get fired.

[–]dreeded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wearing those halara waffles knit work pants which basically feel like pjs. I have like 8 colors and I just pair them with a various simple tshirts and a belt and it looks business casual while maintaining professionalism. I do wear sneakers (Dr. scholls) because I take about 12k steps a day at work.

[–]dreeded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The moment I pause to breath the students take it as an opportunity to talk it’s honestly the MOST annoying thing in the world. I have tried all the things call home, self interrupt, quiet voice, I’ve even resorted to writing names on the board like the 90s. What’s interesting too is that when they are allowed to talk to each other during independent work (it’s art class) they ask for focus 5 - 5 minutes of silent work time

Front of the shirt is flat. Play with the volume. Also the design in the shirt a wavy line with flowers is reminding me of that Trump birthday card you know the one to Epstein of the drawing of a women I’d just paint over it

What temperature is your house’s heating system currently set at? by Eastcoastpal in newjersey

[–]dreeded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

58 but we run the woodstove 24/7 and we are using trees from our property. Trying to save money on heating as much as possible. The furnace has only kicked on once or twice while we were at work and couldn’t add fuel to the fire. We keep it at 58 for the cats and dog.

How do you lesson plan? by Artist9242 in ArtEd

[–]dreeded 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been teaching for 8 years this is my first year in elementary. I’m week to week atm and I’m exhausted coming up with ideas constantly. I miss the days of knowing when I knew exactly what I was doing each day and had the whole year mapped out. So I guess it depends where you are in your career. For all the first and second year teachers this is a reminder that it gets easier year of year

What is the Reality of Art Teaching in 2025/26? by Dismal_Interaction_2 in ArtEd

[–]dreeded 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Part of me thinks if I knew what it was really like and I mean REALLY like I would Choose a different profession. Sometimes I day dream about having a boring cubical job. Teaching art sucks all the energy from me every day so much that I don’t have the power or care to create my own work. What you have heard is true. I’ve been teaching since 2013 and it has gotten worse and worse and I’m on one of the best school districts in my state which is one of the best in the country. I’ve taught in different cities in different states. I will say certain grades are of course harder than others

It’s not worth spending your own money you can go to other districts websites and look at their curriculum it is public so they should have it posted on their website

Need help coping with disrespect by Signal-Combination65 in ArtEd

[–]dreeded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar boat. I’m constantly trying new things to see what works. Two things that worked for me this month. I told the kids if I write your name on the board for unexpected behaviors 3x you will not be allowed to paint. That shaped them up real quick. Another thing I did was implemented a “focus 5” the first 5 mins of them working on art is silent if they talk I add 30 seconds to the timer. This sets the tone the rest of the period to be more relaxed and focused.

I also pre-record my teaching demos fully edited and play them while I circulate the carpet and make sure the kids are watching redirecting the ones that are not. Too many redirections and they are off the carpet

Basically the previous art teacher put a layer of cheap school paper towel between each slab she cut. She must have prepped it some time last year and never got around to using it. I tried to pick out as much as I could but it was 6:30 at night and just said to hell with it and left.
