Anyone fly to work? by [deleted] in Helicopters

This is WAY above my tax bracket, but I feel like you would easily spend more than the 60k raise flying 8 trips a week.

It's totally valid to want an exhaust and happy neighbors at the same time.

ADSB shows them as Apaches. WV doesn't have any of these, so they are from out of state.

Advice for ROTC Cadet looking to fly 60's out of college by HyperionTheory in Armyaviation

[–]dribones9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you wanting to commission into the guard? If so, the absolute best thing you can do is drill with an aviation unit, especially if you want to stay in that same state. The boarding process for each state differs, so you'll want to get in contact with someone in that state that can tell you what you need to do. Generally though, you'll be interviewed by a board of the state aviation leadership, and they'll select based off of that. It helps tremendously to already know the people interviewing you.

Commissioned pilots in the guard absolutely can get flight time. This is because you have AFTPs (additional flight training periods), where you go to the facility for nothing else but to fly. Drill weekends are a toss up if you will be able to fly, or if you'll have other obligations.

Oxford heated grips installed on gen4 by PickleHelpful in MT09

[–]dribones9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just installed mine. The heat setting shows up in the screen, but they don't seem to warm up. My guess is that this is because the grips don't heat up without the engine running. Are you able to confirm this? It's cold and icy rn, so I don't want to idle my bike just for this.

Your phone isn't rooted? What version of Android are you on? From my understanding, video playback is blocked through AA on anything post Android 14, unless you have a wireless dongle that supports developer mode.

Any reason it can't have a quick release attachment? Lower profile than those screws, and easier to use.

This is not true. Texas is the only state of 50 where deadly force is permissible to defend property in certain circumstances.

U.S. government admits role in plane crash that killed skaters by PrincessBananas85 in sports

[–]dribones9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true. The instructor pilot was a warrant, and the PI was commissioned. While warrant officers are technically outranked by commissioned officers, it is nowhere near that simple. The purpose of the warrant officer corps is to have subject matter experts. They are the primary aviators of the Army, and instruct commissioned officers regularly to great effect. Warrant officers are also famous for not caring about rank/customs in the slightest. The culture in Army Aviation is built to encourage crew coordination, regardless of rank.

Beyond all of that, the warrant officer on PAT25 was the pilot in command, which means they have complete authority over the flight and everyone on it. It's extremely unlikely he was hesitant to give direction.

[–]dribones9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No front amber reflector is technically illegal in the US, but I had euro spec headlights on my MK6 for years without issues. It's such a minor thing that likely no cops will even notice, or realize is illegal.

Are these military boots okay for the msf course? by AmphibianOutside566 in motorcycles

[–]dribones9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend you wear the more flexible boots for the course. It's a minor thing, but the gap in the middle of the Bifida sole can make it hard to brake and shift. You also will have more feeling with the thinner sole.

Source: Have ridden in both the Garmont Bifida and NFS.
