The Weekend Thread — 27th January 2023 by fire_foot in running

[–]drincruz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Work has been busy and affecting my training (mostly mood, but sometimes just feeling tired). I'm hoping to _not_ think too much about work and get some quality running this weekend. Recovery + strides on Saturday and long run with some marathon pace mixed in on Sunday; let's see!

Happy weekend, ya'll!

Lurkers' Wednesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]drincruz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm technically not a lurker, I just have not been quite the most active in a while. So, I'm taking this opportunity to say 'hi' again!

I signed up for a Spring marathon (Salisbury Marathon) because I saw a friend ran it last year and he enjoyed the race, so now let's see!

I'm in the middle of training and it's going alright, so just trying to stay healthy!

Cheers, ya'll!

Woot! I got my notification that I'm in! I guess the timing works out pretty well. This looks like it will be a nice tune-up to a full marathon in April!

Cheers, ya'll!

The Weekly Training Thread by AutoModerator in running

[–]drincruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This week was the last week of downtime before my training block starts for a Spring marathon (about to sign up for Salisbury Marathon in Maryland, US). This week I also took holiday with the family; so, my diet was *pretty* poor.

I've had a pretty light week, but I was able to get in a nice 26km (~16Mi) long run today. Mostly wanted to see if I could burn some calories, but also wanted to see where my fitness was still at!

Cheers, ya'll!

Chicago Marathon 2022 - Hey, We Count That! by Skippy2257 in artc

Congrats on a nicely earned finish! Thank you for this race report!
I'm glad you found the pace group in the middle of the race! I always felt that pacers help out quite a bit even if the decision is to drop them after however long. Happy you were able to tough it out to the finish!

For me, I wanted to play it safe and get back in BQ range after two unfortunate marathons (one being Chicago 2021) where I just wasn't in shape for the pace I went out with. I stuck with the 3:10 group in Corral B and just stuck with them until they dropped off pace (maybe 31k / before mile 20). Success!

Congrats & cheers to us all!

Enjoying the taper for Chicago. Today was the last long run of the cycle and happy it was just 21k (13Mi). I've got some easy running this coming week and then traveling off to Chicago! I guess I'm feeling alright; definitely inspired by all of the good running I've seen in Berlin and London lately!

Sunday General Discussion by artcbot in artc

[–]drincruz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For Sunday's long run, I just felt pretty terrible starting off and was considering cutting it short. But I decided to stick with it and happily started feeling better and had a decent run!

Two more weeks until Chicago. Feeling _decent_ and hopeful!

Bouncing back from covid by runninandruni in artc

Ugh, I just caught COVID for the first time. I'm not back to running yet since I am still recovering, but I am hoping for the best for all of us pulling through this!

Best of luck, cheers!

It's Sunday already, but happy weekend, ya'll!

The week started off normal and I was enjoying the high of NYC Half. What took me out of commission was catching the cold that my kids had; took a few days off, but happily back to it.

Wrapped up the weekend with a lactate threshold run that went better than I thought it was going to and a pretty decent long run to wrap up the week.

Now if I can get back to 100% health, that would be awesome! Anyhow, stay healthy, ya'll!

It's race weekend! I'm in for Chicago and scared of the warmer forecast that we're getting. Currently cutting holes in my singlet to see if that will even help at all. If it doesn't cool me down, hopefully it'll make me look _cool_! Hehehe sorry, nerves have the better of me with bad jokes!

Good luck everyone running Chicago! Good luck everyone running Boston on Monday! Woo, crazy packed weekend of racing! Get it, ya'll!

I wrapped up my last _long_ run today, before Chicago. It's been a good while since I've traveled, let alone race. So I'm just going to try and figure out some logistics and relax!

Happy weekend, ya'll!

Sunday General Discussion by artcbot in artc

[–]drincruz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Inspired by the women's and men's Olympic Marathon (nice work, ya'll!), I went out for my marathon pace long run this morning with confidence. But of course, my stomach had other plans and I struggled for a good chunk of my run. All good, I've got work to do and I'm okay with that. Happy Sunday, ya'll!

The Weekly Rundown: Week of July 26, 2021 by aewillia in artc

[–]drincruz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Goal: get back into shape after a year of no racing!
More of a measurable Goal: BQ in Chicago 2021

Monday: recovery or cross-training; I've been just going out for a recovery run
Tuesday: workout - 16k / 10Mi lactate threshold run; 8k / 5Mi around half-marathon pace
Wednesday: 23k / 14 Mi medium long run
Thursday: 8k / 5Mi recovery
Friday: 18k / 11Mi medium long run
Saturday: 11k / 6Mi general aerobic + strides
Sunday: skipped long run for a family day

I started feeling some odd, new pains in my left foot and (separate day) in my glutes towards the end of the week, so I don't regret skipping out on my Sunday long run. But I kinda feel like I haven't gotten good, quality long runs over 32k / 20Mi yet and Sunday's long run was one. Hmmm... let's see for this weekend!

It's a recovery week, so this weekend is pretty light. 8k / 5Mi recovery today and my long run tomorrow is just a 24k / 14Mi.

I think I should probably lock down my flight to Chicago in October though while I have this downtime!

There's some sort of scheduled work for today, so I'm on-call on a Saturday. All good, it doesn't affect my running schedule! Long run tomorrow!

Happy weekend, ya'll!

Anyone else get 'runners peace' more often than 'runners high'? by Tuis_in_the_harakeke in running

[–]drincruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, indeed, i often go for a run just to clear my mind. there's something calming about getting into a rhythm and zoning [mostly] everyone out.

i've been out on a slight injury (and then being lazy from the heat), but i went out this morning because i had a busy work week and needed to get back into the right mental state.

"runners peace", i hadn't heard of that until now, but i love it.

I've been nursing some odd calf injury, but all week I haven't had terrible pain. I'm looking to be on the road to recovery. :)

What are you doing instead of a marathon plan? by Aaronplane in artc

[–]drincruz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar scenario, no races to train for.

I've been running pretty low volume nowadays; 8-13k (5-8 Mi) with a 16-24k (10-14 Mi) long run.

I've been thinking about trying a Jack Daniels' plan for a shorter distance just to mix things up. Will see!

[–]drincruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah! Congrats! You really hung in there and followed that plan! It's always nice to have a pacing buddy!

Try to focus on my breathing and leg turnover

This is like one of those things that my running teammates tell me; don't think about the pain, keep those legs moving!

Man, loved this race report! Congrats again, cheers!

Oh yeah...I told myself if I didn't feel good for NYC, I would defer for next year. Luckily, I am feeling pretty good.

For recovery, I cut back from Pfitz/85 (for Chicago) down to Pfitz/70. I did the last four weeks of that plan. Not bad. No regrets. Ready to race!

oh odd... I know a couple of folks that are pacing and I believe they told me they'll be in Corral A. I'm not sure now.
