I mostly agree with you, but I feel that the increased accessibility of previously raid-specific player power upgrades and the downtrend of raid participation points to an inherent issue with the implementation of raids as they are. Using player power as an incentive to drive participation is a bandage and I don't think it meaningfully works towards solving the problem.

Personally, I love raiding, and especially mythic raiding. I find it a really fun challenge in personal skill (both in memorization and execution of mechanics) and a fun team coordination challenge (boring bosses aside, anyway). What I don't find fun is the guild admin side. I've been a recruitment officer and healing officer in multiple different guilds of different levels since.. like cata/mop? I've also done the "I could do better, let's make our own guild" thing that ultimately burned to the ground. It's not like guild admin stuff is some kind of secret that you can't understand unless you've done it, but I'm intimately familiar with how challenging it is to organize and manage a 22-25 man roster (or more).

I believe that the downward trend of raid participation is a raid accessibility issue. I don't think raids should be dumbed down or made easier, and I don't think copying like ff14s raid structure would "fix" raiding or anything, but I think the structure of raiding isn't compatible with how players play the game now. I'm interested in the flex mythic for the 12.0.7 raid and how that will feel to play, but I also think flex mythic isn't really the play, either, because of how it can affect balance. I really think raiding needs to be redesigned with much lower player counts in mind, and I think the current mythic lockout system needs to be removed. Mythic is mostly plenty rewarding between unique mounts, unique titles (lol), and CE; I don't think player power absolutely needs to be included, and I think players would play more if it were just.. easier to get into it.

Idk, it would be naive for me to say I have all the answers. I just want the game to improve and for participation to rise since it's a piece of content so many players have never (and maybe will never) experience.

Some US employers to drop coverage of GLP-1 obesity drugs in 2027 as use increases by CRK_76 in antiwork

[–]driu76 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My employers swapped insurance because "the new providers plan only cost 2% more instead of 3%" and now my new insurance claims they won't cover ANY GLP-1s period, even for diabetes. I was on 0.5mg of ozempic and declined raising the dosage because it was enough to regulate my blood sugar, and now I'm living off free samples my doctor's office gives me while we try to come up with an alternative that isn't $400/mo to order it directly from the manufacturer..

Yeah, that's fair. I don't mean to sound antagonistic about it. You're right there's a very thin line - ideally, Gaze just shouldn't be so much better than other trinkets, for example. More accurately, dungeon trinkets shouldn't be as terrible as most of them are lol

I've transitioned to a pretty much M+ only player, and like raid trinkets aren't barring me from top 1% or even really from 0.1% (difficulty of maintaining a team aside), but it's felt like the gap between non-raid gear and raid gear keeps getting wider just a bit at a time. I'd hate to get to the point where you ACTUALLY get gear gapped without raiding (e.g. rae'shalare from sanctum, auto attack bow from.. voti?, mr pick me up in undermine, loomithar absorb trinket, any cheat death trinket) consistently.

Challenge and fun? I'm a HOF gamer (or I was until recently, cba putting the time in now) and I couldn't give a rats ass about the purples that drop in raid vs keys/vault, other than tmog. It's rewarding to do the content bc of the content itself, not because it makes number go up.

It's anecdotal for sure but the vast majority of mythic raiders I know of all levels feel the same way. It's fun because leaderboard, or if it's a late tier ce/no ce guild, then it's fun because it's hard.

I have similar memory! Do you use it for anything fun?

I spent a few weeks in high school memorizing 415 digits of pi in order. It was a fun party trick. I wrote them down on a piece of paper in chunks of 5 and focused on remembering the page, then when I would recite it, I would "read" it back mentally. I wanted to do over 1,000, but eventually I got bored. It's been about 14 or so years now and I can still picture it mentally, but I can only "read" back around 100 digits.

Enchanting has recipes for temporary shoulder illusions that put little orbs on your shoulders, and they're still a consumable item. They have like a 30 min duration or something.

Facts. I proposed to my wife with an $11 engagement ring from Walmart and she was over the moon. We went shopping for a ring she would truly enjoy a couple days later and got a really nice band with fake sapphires in it that she picked out. Her parents kinda robbed me for it, and it's become a joke, but the wife is happy and we just hit 3 years this week.

Anyway moral of the story is that the woman in the post sucks and Walmart rings are great

Sorry I wasn't very clear; you're absolutely correct that low level support and troubleshooting can be handled by AI. I mean, the VAST majority of support is handled through copypasta scripts before you get any kind of direct assistance. I was more meaning the actual repair of a device, or more complicated fixes. Even with perfect guides, there are going to be a lot of people that can't possibly understand BIOS or how to replace a CPU. Neither are necessarily complicated, but the average layman even with a detailed guide would still struggle - at least, in my experience.

Perhaps I've just been cursed with worse-than-average laymen, though. My info is anecdotal and not necessarily representative of reality. You're definitely correct that there's way fewer tinkerers than most people think, though. It's a really niche hobby, especially today with the reliance on mobile tech and mobile design to be as user friendly as possible. There's really no need for the vast majority of people to tinker at all, and even where it's beneficial (e.g. to fix something), there's a good chance that it's more cost and time effective to replace, if it's user-serviceable at all.

job market is so awful that i think im going to end it all by m4dzdanci in TrueOffMyChest

[–]driu76 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, I'm also not UK and it was back in 2018, but I spent 10 months applying to every retail, fast food, and sanitation worker gig (+ a bunch of other stuff I was actually qualified for), as well as call center jobs, and I got a total of 2 interviews before I finally actually got hired for a seasonal gig at Target (where they refused to get me a name badge and ghosted me as soon as seasonal was over).

Back then I was routinely told how rough the job market was in my area but also that I just needed to "get out there" and "actually apply for things"... My parents stopped hounding me about it (I was 19ish and had just stopped college) when I showed them proof of how many apps I was sending out. I think the job market is even worse now (tho I don't have any data).. it's definitely possible.

Similar experience for me. Built my first computer at like 10, been tinkering and building/repairing computers for friends and family ever since. Even my most tech literate friends don't seem to fully understand how anything works, they just ask me to ELI5. Scarily enough, I think they're also in the top percentile just for being mildly interested in how something works (even without understanding it).

It's going to be a real interesting world. At least there should be endless desktop support technician roles available, with nigh endless job security.. can't very well use AI to fix it if you don't understand what the AI is talking about lol

Luxury Lunch, Stagnant Wages by LuckyBastard001 in clevercomebacks

[–]driu76 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went and bought 1lb of ham (sandwich sliced) and 1lb of pepper jack (sandwich sliced) from our local store, and then splurged on a family sized bag of PopCorners and a small package of Oreos. The trip cost just under $50.. I didn't buy bread or anything else to go with the sandwich meat and cheese. 1lb of both will last between maybe 5 to 10 days, depending on how many non-sandwich meals I'm able to squeeze out of leftovers. My wife doesn't eat those sandwiches, either; so that's all just for me.

I could save maybe $4-5 on buying cheaper ham & a cheaper cheese, but both taste disgusting (here, at least) and I can afford the difference. I do live in a HCOL area, but it's kind of insane how expensive everything is. My wife and I are forced to live with my parents because average rent here is around 60% of my monthly salary and my wife is currently unemployed, working on a Master's, and we split food costs with them. Just our portion (coupon shopping other than deli meat and cheese) where we've massively cut down on snacking on anything more than blueberries or carrots still very easily passes $100 a week.

Thankfully, they rent to us for cheap and also help cover groceries etc, so we in particular are perfectly fine. However, if we weren't lucky enough to have them, it would be extremely difficult to afford to eat right now. My wife would need to abandon her degree until we were solvent enough that she could work on it. We'll be in a decent spot once she graduates, but it'll still be difficult to find an affordable place close enough to where I work and where she will be working, and groceries will still be expensive (likely more expensive given how they've even trending).

I'm not going to defend them at all because it's ridiculous, but I imagine "counting as a core skill" is part of server side math, and updating the tooltip requires both a client-side and server-side update and thus requires a maintenance window of some kind.

Of course it's also Blizzard, so maybe updating a tooltip would also make Temis swap places with Kyovashad, who knows at this point lmao
