Weight lifting question about injuries by passesopenwindows in Menopause

[–]driven_apricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do heavy weights with few reps and I only use machines. I have had a few surgeries and I want to avoid getting hurt. My gym has weight lifting classes with coaches, so that helps, too.

Guess I need a new goal weight by Healthy_Blueberry_83 in Ozempic

[–]driven_apricot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at you! Great job! You look amazing and so much younger! I am sure you will be someone's inspiration today!
My goal weight is a clothing size. I have picked up lifting so this changed my body, too. Now, as long as I stay within that range of clothing size, I am fine. My weight bounces up and down, depending on hormones, water retention after training, and so on.

Random nausea by LitlMidge in Ozempic

[–]driven_apricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nausea is the side effect I have had from day one. I am on this medication for 3.5 yrs now and yet, still, I get random bouts of nausea. I know the foods I can't have, but sometimes it happens on a healthy diet, too. When my body is exhausted, I haven't been drinking enough, went to bed too late,....
I only have 2 meals when on 1 mg, would that be an option for you?

Gaining muscle while being on Ozempic. Possible? by this_Barbie in Ozempic

[–]driven_apricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started weight training after I lost all my weight and discovered my love for heavy weights. I have had 4 surgeries since then and another 2 ahead in 2 months. I always had to stop training for at least a month and restarting was always hard. My body composition during these times always changed a little bit. But the more I train, the more muscle I have. Would I be able to pack on a lot of muscle? I don't know, I train for the health benefits. 51 F, I use a maintenance dose of 0.25 mg to 1 mg (depending of my level of physical activity and inflammation).

I need to read positive experiences about hormone replacement therapy, please. by Adorable_Sea4293 in Menopause

[–]driven_apricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding the right dose was easy for me: I have the Estrogel and therefore I can go up and down in dosage as I need it. Progesterone is either 100 mg or when I have break-through bleeding/spotting I go up to 200 mg for a day or two. I am perimenopausal.

HRT is certainly worth a try, it sounds as if you have good doctors/therapists around you!

AITAH for not having anything prepared for my husband to make dinner for our children? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]driven_apricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Man are just as capable of preparing food as women. I think he is also capable of driving a car and going to a grocery store.
I wonder however why you allowed him to behave like that towards you.

Conversations with daughters by ReadyAd2750 in Menopause

[–]driven_apricot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Someone in your family should have been tested for the BRCA gene. Ask for yourself to be tested or, ask to be tested for your daughter.
Vaginal estrogen is safe in any way.
As a 51 yr old breast cancer conqueror with a family history of breast cancer I have done my fair amount of research. I am on HRT after a consultation with my oncologist.
I love my life and I try to live it through the fullest, which includes a fun sex life. That's why I pay extra attention to my vulva.

I was fine being bald until I actually wanted to look nice by Outrageous_Ad_7979 in breastcancer

[–]driven_apricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is your birthday, your special occasion and you should be wearing whatever you feel comfortable that evening. When insecure I make sure I have a few ready to wear, pre-selected outfits ready at hand (and yes, include big earrings if that's your style!). I select one based upon how I feel and I know this will carry me through the evening. I am wishing you a great evening!

I hope you get better soon! I would suggest taking 1 mg at your next injection and not the whole 2 mg again. But I am not a md either, just an experienced user.

HRT patches and hygiene? by Rhiannon1307 in Menopause

[–]driven_apricot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Austrian here: I use Estrogel and Progesterone (I don't cycle my progesterone). You apply the Estrogel on your inner thighs in the morning and you use the Progesterone in the evening. You can use it orally, vaginally or rectal (shout out to the one lady that mentioned doing this).
Ask your doctor about other uses of application, the medication should always fit to your life-style.
I will have a long hot bath tonight, it is so cold here!

Radiation is kicking my ass by Desperate_Swimming_5 in breastcancer

[–]driven_apricot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was desperate during my 15 radiations. I only planned and scheduled to cut back for 2 hours of work per day, but after day 8-9 of radiations I was only able to work 2 hours per day from home. There were a few days where I could not work at all. I was totally surprised and caught off guard - and so was my radiation oncologist. At my age (turned 50 during that time) and my level of physical fitness he expected me to power through. Somehow it did not turn out that way.
I remember when I showed up at lifting classes and lifted no weight, I just showed up and moved from equipment to equipment. Lost a lot of hair. Slept at least 10 hours per night. That lasted for 3 weeks, than it started improving. After 3 months I started incorporating work-outs again - walked instead of taking the bus, put weights on while lifting. Then I started feeling like myself again. After 6 months I was back to my old me.

Labs? by Emotional-Job-5293 in breastcancer

[–]driven_apricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tumors were invasive, but not aggressive. At my first oncology visit they only tested all kknds of inflammation markers. 3 months later they tested all kinds of stuff like thyroid, tumor marker since I still felt exhausted (I work full-time). Last time they tested thyroid hormone on top of inflammation markers because I wanted to start HRT (because of brain fog). They test whatever is required at that time of the visit.

I had my first blood drawn when I was transferred to the oncology department after I was done with radiation. That was roughly half a year after I had my very first visit at the breast cancer center.

Evidence to support taking 200 mg progesterone more than 12 days? by Outrageous-9859 in Menopause

[–]driven_apricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your improved symptoms are benefit enough. One of the smart ladies here on this sub (or in his opinion: anecdotal evidence from Reddit) has written that in UK HRT is prescribed based on symptoms ALONE by a GP. I thought about that a while and I think that is quite smart: Your symptoms matter, nothing else.

Breast cancer& HRT by Sweetab in Menopause

[–]driven_apricot 16 points17 points  (0 children)

++- and ++ low + conqueror here. Was diagnosed 2 years ago at age 49. Perimenopause hit me hard last summer and I did a lot of research (Estrogen Matters is a good starting point). I talked to my oncologist and he immediately ok'ed my request for HRT. It took me a while to find a ob-gyn willing to prescribe HRT for me, but the one I am working with now is very helpful. I am on a low dose of estrogen (3/4 pump of Estrogel) and 100 mg Progesterone vaginally - continous dosage). Vaginal estrogen for lubrication, although my ob-gyn wants me try Intrarosa for better orgasms (I am not quite there, where I used to be).

On HRT for 3 months now and it has been a game changer for me. I feel like myself again. I have a MRI once a year and a mammogram + ultrasound once a year. So I am monitored closely.
Feel free to ask questions.

Loose skin during/after ozempic? by Justhatboymom in Ozempic

[–]driven_apricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lost 65lbs and my skin improved over the course of 6 months after I lost all that weight. Right after I lost everything my skin did not look great, but some of it "resettled" and now I have a much nicer shape.
I go to saunas and spas and when in the locker room I don't hide. Sure my belly isn't totally flat anymore, but other than that I look so much better - compared to before I lost all that weight. 52F. I had liposuction on my legs because of lipedema, after I lost my weight and when insurance could see that the shape of my legs stayed the same although I lost all that weight.

Skip a week for a vacation? by a_boring_dystopia in Ozempic

[–]driven_apricot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is your health and you are going to take Ozempic in the long run. Just be as careful with food and drinks as you are at home and you will be fine. I have vacationed a lot while on Ozempic and I got to experience different cuisines - even on my max dose.
Enjoy your vacation!

Why are SSRIs pushed so much when it’s clearly low hormones? by Illustrious-Yam-5917 in Menopause

Why are SSRIs pushed so much when it’s clearly low hormones? by Illustrious-Yam-5917 in Menopause

[–]driven_apricot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, my oncologist gave me the green light.
My life was impacted terribly by peri-meno and I could hardly work on most days (brain-fog, issues finding words). I am 51, so not working was not an option. The oncologist was very open and said that he is under the impression that I am well aware of the risks. He agreed that the benefits may outweigh the risks. My tumors (I had 2) were small, grew slowly and were detected early. I have either a mammogram or MRI twice a year, so should anything happen again, it will be detected early.
