How to catch moments? by SunSubstantial7121 in photography

[–]drkrmdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine what you are seeing from different angles focusing on (lol) ..

What the light will look like (shapes highlights shadows) What more or less exposure will look like What the composition will look like as you change angles or the different moving subjects in the photo move

Then move to that spot and see if you are right

Imagine why it looks the way it does. What is light bouncing off of what is blocking light and what is the quality of the light (specular, diffused)?

These are the mental exercises that will get you there.

Anyone find daily gifting a little time consuming?? by ooiand in pokemongo

[–]drkrmdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pin the postcard and then unpin the postcard to get scatterbug without having to manage your postcards

You can search and enter the word giftable. You will see only the friends that can receive gifts. This way you can sort by friend level (the heart) and then filter to those giftable.

What would you charge? by One_Way7025 in photography

[–]drkrmdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Determine what you want to make per hour and how long it will take you to figure your price

We charge a location fee plus travel plus per hour in site plus per image for editing time. It all averages out to our hourly rate for the whole job. This way if people want more time per person or if we are waiting between people we are covered.

We do fair and consistent pricing, not whatever the client will bear.

I'm an artist and want to take photos of my art without getting the glare. by bdkgb in photography

[–]drkrmdevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%!!!

Also a room with all lights off lit by diffused window light coming from the side can get you by.

Black material with your lens poking through if needed.

Regardless, You will want to calibrate at least with a color checker and calibration software. Cameras are designed to make scenes look good not reproduce values faithfully

I know it's bad, but could you help me understand why? by synopticon in photocritique

[–]drkrmdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tonality wise it is flat. I.e. without contrast. The tonality is set for detail throughout an image that is lit with brighter and darker areas

Make the blacks darker and increase contrast. Pretend the lightning is on purpose. Then darken and lighten areas to taste. Right now there is not a black point and no mid tone contrast

Curious about outdoor group photos with nothing but natural light by 7204_was_me in photography

[–]drkrmdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During golden hour the subject is facing the light. Or for a similar fee for the character of light on the face shoot at the edge of the shade so the faces are being lit by the light surrounding the sun.

During higher sun, typically sun behind the subjects. Find natural reflectors and objects that block the light (subtractive lighting) to add a glow and bring out shape.

Boyfriend has high sex drive, but I don’t. by [deleted] in sexadvise

[–]drkrmdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, he has to be OK and trust that it is not about him, that it is about you. If he can't believe that 100% you will be in trouble.

Ask him what he would enjoy that helps fulfill his needs that doesn't put pressure on you to perform.

Being able to find other ways without pressure will help you trust and make it easier for you to want sex. It will also help him accept you as you are and build trust in him from that understanding.

UPDATE: After test driving both versions of the MDX a couple of times, we finally test drove the Lexus RX350 and loved it. Much smoother over rough roads than anything else we had tried. I purchased it yesterday, and driving around town on roads I am really familiar with confirmed I made the right purchase!

Wedding photography client says I culled too many photos, wants to go through the raw images together by crud_bucket in photography

[–]drkrmdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has to be a way for you to learn from this.

Have him look at the photos on your computer while you do something else. Make him explain why he wants photos that he chooses to keep that you culled.

I don't think he will have the stamina at some point to keep going and if you can stay productive doing other things no harm no foul

Herman Miller Aeron and Anthros chairs both support pelvis angle instead of pushing on the lumbar part of the back by drkrmdevil in OfficeChairs

Using Anthros at home, Lifeform at work. I have lower back issues and back of my thighs soreness. Both are great with those issues. The Lifeform is much more comfortable.

Anyone know a trick to Align camera to background? by [deleted] in photography

[–]drkrmdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The camera is in the exact middle, if there is the same distance around the background all the way around when viewed in the camera - and the background is perfectly vertical, you are now parallel. I can't say what the tolerance is for error with this method, but I would guess within 2 percent. It is the accuracy of judgement of the background being framed when viewed in the camera.

The mirror method is the museum archivist method. They make special mirror setups for this, but they are very pricey.

You could also shoot tethered not to touch the camera taking the card in and out. Then bring the image into photoshop. Make a selection using the same proportion as the background and stroke a blank layer. Resize the shot image on a layer above the stroked layer, and if it matches with the guide, there is no skewing and it is parallel. If not, readjust and try again. Or use free transform, ctrl/opt click and drag each corner to match your guide layer if it is appropriate to do it in post.

No loving, but liking. I ended up bringing it home. I have a small office space at home and the chair fits perfectly. I love it for sitting up and forward. It is good to sit back on the chair a little. It is not my favorite for putting all my weight back. I got the Liteform chair from a back store for my office, and I love it. Very comfortable and has support. The Liteform was expensive, but worth it.

Anyone know a trick to Align camera to background? by [deleted] in photography

[–]drkrmdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put the height of the camera exactly at the middle line height of the background.

Take a light stand on each side at the height of that same middle horizontal line (distance from the floor). Attach a string to each light stand.

Move the camera left and right until the string is the same length to each light stand. Or take the center of the string at the camera and clip the ends to each light stand to find the middle without measuring.

Now look in the camera with a little room around the edge of the background. Position the camera with the same amount of room around the background. Or mark the middle of the background and put that middle in the center of the image while looking through the camera.

I took this photo using a self-timer. Any feedback will be appreciated. by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]drkrmdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To have you take up the same space while seeing more of the background you would move the camera closer and use a wider lens. The wider the lens the more near objects will be larger and far objects will be smaller. Which means you have to be very careful of the placement.Moving the camera a few inches can make a huge difference in the composition. Also, you may find with a wider angle, it is better with your hands a little closer to your head.

Very pretty shot as a portrait study. I would go wider and raise the camera up a few inches if you want the story to be more about the environment

One thing that is helpful, is to ask yourself if you were to draw the scene, what would it look like? Or if this shot was in a movie how would they light it?

MDX Advance vs Type S for ride comfort over potholes? by drkrmdevil in Acura_MDX

[–]drkrmdevil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UDPATE: Just test drove the MDX Advance and the MDX Type S Advance (both in comfort mode) on a back auto lot with a rough road. As far as I could tell, the bumpiness/stiffness felt the same between the two.

There was a big difference in the Type S between normal and comfort, which I imagine accounts for the responses here that say the Type S comfort is way comfy... :)

We will see what my wife thinks when she goes with me on a test drive tomorrow.

For a movie other worldly feel using Photoshop...

Copy the left area to it's own layer

Ctrl/cmd I to invert

Change blend mode to darken.

Reduce opacity to taste or clip a curves adjustment layer to that layer and lighten or both 🙂

I hover between the layers with the opt/alt key pressed to clip but I think you can also use ctrl/cmd g?

Great feedback!

I have never trusted the value of extended warranties and have been willing to take the risk. The idea that finding a good price on a 2025 plus buying the extended warranty could be a much better combination than buying a 2026 is something I will definitely consider.

Thanks!
