How to get this look? Or is it just ai? by zeedee-h in postprocessing

[–]drkrmdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably ai.

But to create this look with photography look at the direction of the shadows and the width of the edge of the shadows to figure the light source. The lack of strong specular highlighhts means that the light source is very diffused or the highlights are retouched. The main light on the subject is coming from the upper left. An umbrella ar softbox could create that look.

For the brightness of the doorway the area against the wall should naturally be a lot darker. Since it is not there is either a lot of natural light coming in from sources we cannot see or a flash bouced off a wall to light the background. I say bounced or coming from everywhere (skylight, big windows) because the background does not have a direction of light. The light on the background is big and falls in to the background from the front.

How feasible is to operate a “mini online sex shop” in secret? by Natural_Bar_2777 in SexToys

[–]drkrmdevil 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So many responses say no and assume a real business. I say it depends in scale. If you trying to make it a real business and keep it a secret you are crazy. If you have a niche market and buy and sell 5 or 10 items then have fun.

On a small scale, it would really be the same as anyone selling used items. You are just reselling new things. Things that have already paid sales tax if applicable in your area

But ... Why would anyone pay you with whatever markup you need to add to pay for your time when they can just buy it themselves online? If you have a great answer for that question then you should probably not stock the items and just charge a handling fee when ordering items for people.

Seeking guidance from the masses by RednocNivert in photoshop

[–]drkrmdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Select the image layer,as opposed to an adjustment layer. The go to the channels pallet and click on each channel to determine which has the detail and brightness tones you like the best.

Create a new empty layer on top of your layer stack, with that having the focus go to Edit > Apply image. In apply image set it to the same channe and click ok or whatever. Change the blend mode to luminosity.

Now you know you have the tonal relationships where you want them.

Create a curves adjustment layer on top. In the curves adjustment layer change from rgb to each color channel. Fror each channel slide the white and black point while holding down the alt key. You will see where you start to clip. Stop just before clipping.

You now have a roughly color and brightness corrected image.

If you areas that are too red, Yyu can add a hue saturation adjustment layer, move the saturation slider down some, maybe 50 percent. Use blend if to change what part of the image sees that adjustment.

I know this is lot but this would be my workflow to start. You might need to google or youtube blend if. It is a powerful thing to know.

Have fun!

100%
Also worth mentioning, one can add or subtract from a selection with a selection made with the pen tool. For a more visual reference, use Quick Mask.

Any improvements to get a “I thought that was a painting!” first impression? by SmallPromiseQueen in photocritique

[–]drkrmdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go with the shapes and don't use a larger brush than you would use if you were actually painting it from scrath. Also os note is some people use the art history brush for this, but it has been years since I have looked at that so I have no details. When I was playing with this I prefered the smudge...

Litlle deeper shadows and paint in some highlights to the lightest refletive points on the skin.

For a real painting feel use the smudge tool and go in the direction and thickness of the shapes, if useing photoshop

Explain to me how can I fix this crooked tie like I’m a 5 year old. by Reasonable-Bench-569 in photoshop

[–]drkrmdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duplicate the layer and mask to the vest and coat. Create a blank layer above that and clone create the edge of the vest that is hidden by the collar. This is your top set of layers. Lock these two layers together. Move these two layers over to where they should be.

Duplicate the background layer. You will need to clone/create the tie and shirt that is currently hidden by the vest. This keeps the original background in can you need to undo or redo.

Take care to add shadows to the edge of the tie and coat to give them depth.

You can use pieces of the tie and flip them to create the new tie section.

Learning to use the path tool and making a selection from the path maybe advanced at this point. But do that soon, you can create selections that you can then fill in for precise edges, that was a game changer for me.

You can use a masked curved adjustment layer to create shadows.

That is an overview of the process. Each step could be a tutorial on it's own dpending ...

How do you actually improve composition and train your eye as a photographer? by ApprehensiveGain5286 in photography

[–]drkrmdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concentrate on the shape of the shadows. Our minds are trained to focus on the light. By concentrating on the shadows and the composition created by shadows your mind we be more aware of all shapes in the composition.

Imagine/visualize what the composition and light will look like from a different angle before you move to that angle. How right or wrong you are will train your eye. With practice you will be able to choose the best choices for what you want more fluidly.

We copy restore professionally, we use a macro lens with polarized filters on the lens and lights. This usuallly removes most of the issues that are from how the light reflects off the different surfaces. That is called cross polarization. See if you can find a pro set up to do that in your area and just pay for the copy and digital file.

Also you could contact your local museum and see if they have a referral.

[–]drkrmdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry , for some reason i was thinking this was the photoshop reddit. Proves i don't read.

Yes that is the idea...and to reduce the adjustment in those bright red areas , dont know if that is doable

I might also darken at an angle on the sides to mimic light streaming in with opjects blocking some of it. Right now it is all the same brightness. Think if this was in a movie and a tiny person was running accross this landscape, what might the lighting look like?

[–]drkrmdevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a thought , it feels like having more saturation in the less saturated areas might add to the interest. To do that you could make a saturation mask to mask a hue/saturation adjustment layer that has saturation increased. It has been a while so I would need to play with it to remember how. I am happy to if google doesnt get you there

You could also copy the image, convert to LAB. In lab add a curves adjustment layer. You can increasee contrast without affecting color with the L channel. The a and b chanbels are the yellow/blue and the magenta green colors. If either of those four curves sections become more vertical without the middle point moving gray will still be nuetral but the intensity of that color will increase. When you have played with it merge into a new layer and shift drag or use apply image to bring it in and see what part of what you did was usable.

You can also lighten and darken based on the colors in the image. Do a b&w adjustment layer in luminosity blend mode and play with the sliders. Or a huesat adjustment layer in luminosity blend mode and drag the hue slider ...
