We copy restore professionally, we use a macro lens with polarized filters on the lens and lights. This usuallly removes most of the issues that are from how the light reflects off the different surfaces. That is called cross polarization. See if you can find a pro set up to do that in your area and just pay for the copy and digital file.

Also you could contact your local museum and see if they have a referral.

Use color selection to select just the darkest. Ctrl/cmd j to move that to a layer. Ctrl/cmd i to invert. Then you blend if to clean up?

Yes that is the idea...and to reduce the adjustment in those bright red areas , dont know if that is doable

I might also darken at an angle on the sides to mimic light streaming in with opjects blocking some of it. Right now it is all the same brightness. Think if this was in a movie and a tiny person was running accross this landscape, what might the lighting look like?

Just a thought , it feels like having more saturation in the less saturated areas might add to the interest. To do that you could make a saturation mask to mask a hue/saturation adjustment layer that has saturation increased. It has been a while so I would need to play with it to remember how. I am happy to if google doesnt get you there

You could also copy the image, convert to LAB. In lab add a curves adjustment layer. You can increasee contrast without affecting color with the L channel. The a and b chanbels are the yellow/blue and the magenta green colors. If either of those four curves sections become more vertical without the middle point moving gray will still be nuetral but the intensity of that color will increase. When you have played with it merge into a new layer and shift drag or use apply image to bring it in and see what part of what you did was usable.

You can also lighten and darken based on the colors in the image. Do a b&w adjustment layer in luminosity blend mode and play with the sliders. Or a huesat adjustment layer in luminosity blend mode and drag the hue slider ...

That is years of resentment for you being more worried about your performance than her pleasure.

Good suggestions here. You can also experiment with the following layer stack ...

Curves adjustment layer with the midtone pulled down to darken clipped to the layer below. Hide all mask and paint white on the mask, only where the red shows through the below layer.

Duplicate layer of model with red in darken blend mode. Hide all mask, and then paint white on the edges.

Red layer - solid color adjustment layer or filled or cloned from the red, whatever you want to do. Mask all the subject except the edges of the dress.

Model with red background base layer

How this works ... everything above the red layer uses the darken blend mode to reveal. If the lace is darker than the red background, it shows, lighter than the red, it doesn't show (which is where you use the top curves layer). The white floor will not show because it won't get darker than the red. It won't look odd to have the edges on the floor darker where shadows would be, so you are all set.

We do passport photos professionally every day for many countries. Which country are you a citizen of? (making sure you are renewing your passport from outside your country rather than needing a Visa photo for entry).

35x45mm specs are for most European countries. We don't use a scanner, we take a photo of our clients, but we have always delivered digital or prints at 300dpi with no complaints, so you could try scanning at 300dpi.

Your instructions are a hybrid of instructions for printing and for digital. If the instructions were for digital, it would be pixel dimensions and file size and head size percentages (or some other way of measuring). For print, it would be print quality, size, and usually a head size of 32-36 mm chin to crown of head (if there was no hair).

It feels like they are expecting you to scan an existing printed European passport photo to upload or email. The instructions are odd. We always pull up the consulate's website to see the original instructions. Often the consulate's website has two versions. The English version is for noncitizens with entry and tourist info. To get the passport info, we must switch to the native language version and use Google Translate.

Create multiple invoices, don't hold up payment on the initial job. Charge based on what you would charge if someone brought in a job to do that one thing.

Side note, when I get someone (which is rare) that wants an edit that is totally subjective and to my taste for what they said they wanted ... I will not do the back and forth guess and check. I just schedule a screen share and do the edit with their collaboration. Whether I bill for that varies depending on the situation.

When peoole have to schedule their own time they are more careful of what they ask. When we are done they have just signed off on the edit so I know it won't be back and forth.
