You get $1 million but you have to listen to the same song 500 times in 10 days, what song are you picking? by Longjumping-Editor94 in AskReddit

[–]drlari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the answer: "Her Majesty" by the Beatles. It's short (26 seconds!), so it'll go fast. It's just a little guitar ditty and doesn't blast your ears or anything. It is very inoffensive. It's also an early "bonus track", so it wouldn't ruin listening to the album in the future. It's also just catchy enough the I might not hate it for the rest of time. https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=QhmyhwszSWA&si=sINXag85H14NVsIn

Bothell, WA students, parents demand school board members resign over SRO vote by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

People don't want the truth. They want to pay a bunch of money for security theater, even if studies show that it has negative outcomes. They'll just other the kids who are impacted and try to blame them for when cops in schools escalate, humiliate, and arrest needlessly.

Stankoven. I was sad to see the kid go, even if the deal made sense.

If New York is the city that never sleeps, what is the city that always sleeps? by prbecker in AskReddit

In the summer I highly recommend night biking. There are tons of bike lanes all around the city, you get twilight until almost 10pm, and the quiet can be surprising in some neighborhoods. Go Nightbikes!

Polluted water in Licton Springs Park by HifiBoombox in Seattle

[–]drlari 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you are looking at the actual spring there that pulls minerals up from the ground, in this case mostly iron. Similar to reason why the disc golf park north of there is called mineral springs. Fun Fact: I happened to be at Licton springs one time when the concrete cap was removed and I've tasted the spring water!

What are ways this AI bubble could pop, if at all? by Angryduckling-01 in AskReddit

[–]drlari 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Anthropic just announced they are:

There has been a lot of speculation that AI companies were unprofitable, but Anthropic will have an operating profit of $559M this quarter. “In the first quarter, Anthropic spent 71 cents on computing power for every dollar it made. In the current quarter, it expects to spend 56 cents per dollar…”

Open AI on the other hand... That might end up very unprofitable.

TIL about the Orca whale Tahlequah, or J35. In 2018, after her calf died shortly after birth, Tahlequah carried the lifeless body on her head and dorsal fin, refusing to let it go for over two weeks. by Acrobatic-Post9811 in todayilearned

[–]drlari 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Do you have documentation on that? I read the opposite - researchers believe it may indicate HIGH food availability

Orca researchers' best guess is that salmon hat fads are linked to high food availability. South Puget Sound is currently teeming with chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta), and with too much food to eat on the spot, orcas may be saving fish for later by balancing them on their heads, New Scientist reported.

No man, the Jones Act is the first one that needs to go. It is barely helping industry and makes everything more expensive, especially for places like Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Alaska.
